3 1. PURPOSE This circular provides information of administrative arrangements for the APEC SME O2O Training Workshop & COMPUTEX Taipei to be held from June in Taipei. 2. PROGRAM ARRANGEMENTS 3.1. Event Background With the rapid development of mobile internet, the fast integration of e- commerce and mobile payment technology, O2O is rapidly becoming a new 2
4 business mode with huge market potential in the APEC region. There are many successful cases applying O2O business models such as, Amazon, Uber and Airbnb. Understanding this, the APEC O2O Initiative is partnering with top multinational corporations such as Intel, Siemens, Google, Acer and Trend Micro. They will lead and guide SMEs in applying O2O and enhance their digital competitiveness in Mobile Commerce, Sharing Economy, Collaborative Industry and Next Generation Innovation, the 4 main O2O innovation areas. As for this two-day O2O training event, the start-ups recommended by APEC economies will attend the COMPUTEX Taipei s Asia-Pacific Accelerator Network (AAN) Forum on June 1. COMPUTEX Taipei is the Asia s largest and world s leading professional ICT show and with a brand new position this year - Building Partnerships in Internet Computing Ecosystems by combining IoT technology application, Innovation and startups and Business Solution It would be a perfect chance for the startups to connect with VCs, Accelerators and big corporations to expand their business. For the second day, June 2, the SME O2O Training Workshop, it will be an interactive training boot camp with speakers and mentors from Microsoft, Google, Trend Micro, Alibaba educating teams and etc. They will share with start-ups expertise in O2O innovation and business and team management tips. 5 4. REGISTRATION All meeting participants must send the personal info (Name, Title, Organization, and other contact info) to Mr. Jeffery Wang with a copy to Ms. Sonya Liu (d32115@tier.org.tw). 5. ARRIVALS AND ENTRY FORMALITIES 5.1 Passport and Visas Citizens from all economies need a valid passport with at least six (6) months validity to enter Chinese Taipei. All participants from APEC member economies require a visa to enter Chinese Taipei, except those from Australia, Canada, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, and the United States, who may enter Chinese Taipei under the visa-exemption program. Participants under the visa-exemption program are eligible to stay up to 30 days, which is not extendable. For further information, please go to: 6. TRANSPORTATION 6.1 Arrival Taoyuan International Airport Located in Taoyuan City, it s approximately 40 kilometers and about 50 minutes by car to Taipei City. For further information, please go to: Taipei Songshan Airport Located in downtown Taipei, there are only limited routes arranged to land at this airport. For more information, please to go Transportation Shuttle bus and metro From Taoyuan International Airport Take Citi Air bus No at the airport, and get off at stop Grand Hyatt Taipei Station head south along City Hall Road (Shifu Road), 4
6 turn right at Xinyi road and at the next intersection to the opposite way of Xinyi Road back, then you will find Sparkle Hotel is on your right side. (refer to the pic below). The one way ticket costs around TWD 145. For the detail, please refer to the page: Grand Hyatt From Taipei Songshan Airport Get on metro departing from Songshan Airport (Brown Line) and get off at Taipei 101/World Trade Center Station (Red Line). Get out through exit 3, go straight along with Xinyi road and then rotate at Zhuangjing road, then you will find Sparkle Hotel is on your right side. One way ticket cost TWD 25. For more detail, please visit Taxi From Taoyuan International Airport Sparkle Hotel is 1 hour s drive from Taoyuan Airport with taxi fare of TWD 1,300. 5
7 From Taipei Songshan Airport Sparkle Hotel is 15 minutes drive from Songshan Airport with taxi fare of TWD HOTEL ACCOMODATION The accommodation cost of the APEC-funded participant is covered in the per diem payment. Participants are requested to book their accommodation no later than June, 1 st, 2016 by forwarding the attached Hotel Reservation Form (ANNEX B) to Sparkle Hotel. Kindly note that room reservations submitted after the deadline will be subject to room availability. All costs incurred by participants during the stay such as telephone calls, use of facsimiles, and laundry will be on individual account. Participants should settle their accounts directly with the hotel before their departure. Participants will also be responsible for any charges resulting from no show. SECURITY AND MEDICAL Security and medical services will be available at the meeting site and at official hospitality functions throughout the duration of the meetings. Participants are responsible for paying medical, surgical, dental, and hospital fees, or for presenting an insurance policy covering such fees. 9. GENERAL INFORMATION 9.1 Taipei in Brief Taipei City is the current capital city and it is the center of politics, economy, education and recreation of the economy and offers a wide selection of sights. It is located in the northern basin of the island, taking the Dan Shui River, Hsin Dian River, Keelung River and Taipei County as boundaries. The 6
8 population of Taipei City alone is around 3 million. For more information about Taipei, please visit: Weather in Taipei Taipei s weather is affected by latitude, altitude, terrain and monsoon factors; it is general warm in winters and hot in summers. It rains throughout the four seasons and is commonly warm and humid. Since the autumn season is start from June that the weather will be expected hot and humid. The average temperatures in June is around 27.7 that visitors are suggested to bring rain gear and prepare for sunscreen. For detailed weather forecast, please go to: Telecommunication Long distance calls can be made from hotel rooms or public phones. Pre-paid phone cards are available at the hotel or convenience stores, and they can be used either for domestic or international calls. Please note that all charges for personal phone calls made in the hotel rooms are borne by participants. 9.4 Currency and Banking The currency used in Chinese Taipei is the New Taiwan Dollar (NTD), and the basic unit is Yuan. According to Chinese Taipei s customs, no more than NTD 40,000 in notes may be brought in by each passenger unless a permit is obtained in advance. There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency, traveler s checks or credit cards brought into Chinese Taipei. However, travelers carrying more than USD 5,000 must declare them to Customs. Major foreign currencies can be exchanged at moneychangers or banks. Rates in these establishments are usually better than those in hotels. Approximately USD 1.00 is equivalent to NTD 32. Bank notes come in denominations of NTD 100, NTD 200, NTD 500, NTD 1,000, and NTD 2,000. Coins are in the following denominations: NTD 1, NTD 5, NTD 10, and NTD 50. 7
9 Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are normally available in banks and other commercial establishments such as major railway stations, airports, convenience stores, petrol stations, department stores, and shopping complexes. If you make an interbank withdrawal (that is, withdrawal from an ATM that does not belong to your bank) you will be charged a small fee for each transaction. Most ATMs offer interface in both. 9.5 Electricity Voltage: Volts (Same as U.S./Canada, most other areas are Volts) Primary Socket Types: North American Non-Grounded, North American Grounded Please note that these may not be identical to U.S./Canadian sockets, and may require an adapter. Compatible Socket: 9.6 Reminders for Traveler A great majority of indoor public areas in Chinese Taipei are non-smoking areas, such as cultural or social education institution, government offices, physical education or training sites, hotels shopping malls, restaurants, conference halls. Outdoor public areas include sites for public transportation, stations sites, medical treatment service institutions, and so on. Smoking, eating, drinking and gum chewing are prohibited in Taipei Rapid Transit (MRT) area, also known as Taipei Metro area. 8
