Annual Report Development & Innovation

Editorial Dear Reader The focus of the Development & Innovation Group unit (E for short) is on identifying new business opportunities for Swiss Post and launching market-oriented projects and programmes. But E does not only develop and innovate, it also supports the other units in their inno- vation projects. For example, with an innovation fund and a start-up screening pro- gramme, it runs Postidea a cross-unit ideas management system and it develops the internal culture of innovation. At E, new paths extend beyond organizational and national borders. The Open Innova- tion team is tasked with supporting and promoting selected innovation projects with external partners. These partners include universities, state institutions, other postal companies, start-ups and large companies. At the same time, E cultivates partnerships in the innovation hotspot of Silicon Valley and offers study trips in Palo Alto lasting several weeks to selected employees. It is fresh global incentives of this kind that drive the development and implementation of new business and process ideas quickly and efficiently forward. E is about thinking outside the box. Its employees are encouraged to be confident and bold, and can sometimes be a provocative voice within Swiss Post. This self-image is one part of the role we set out for the new unit when we established it one and a half years ago. We may be big but we are still flexible, fast and innovative. E is one of the reasons we stay on the ball: with our innovations, we are securing our future. Susanne Ruoff CEO Swiss Post Ltd 2 /21

Mission statement and performance promise Getting new ideas off the ground beyond borders. Claudia Pletscher, with the Development & Innovation Group unit (E), you get new ideas off the ground. Are your employees the air traffic controllers in the tower, are they with the people on board, or do they ensure that the cargo is transported in the right direction? Claudia Pletscher: At E, we do in- deed assume a wide range of roles: sometimes passengers ask Claudia Pletscher uncomfortable questions, or Head of Development & challenge us with their desire for Innovation new destinations. We try to break out of conventional ways of thinking and go beyond the obvious. To stick with the metaphor, that might sometimes also mean working together with a competing airline what we call the coopetition. What is also clear is that innovation at Swiss Post doesn t only take place centrally at E; it is spread right across the company. We cooperate closely with the units, just as we do with external partners. Some projects are launched collectively, with two examples being the mobility lab or drones for parcel delivery. In ehealth with vivates and in the e-voting solution, we ourselves are in the cock- pit, but here again cooperation with the other units plays an important role in achieving success. What are the core tasks of E as a unit? We bring knowledge, expertise and new partners to Swiss Post; we connect and inspire. As an innovative platform, we support the Group units, and as an engine of development, we launch projects across units and drive market-oriented programmes forward. Our job is to help Swiss Post transform its core business in line with its vision in the digital world, which means that our role is both to enable innovation and to implement our own innovation projects. That sounds like a pretty broad spectrum... Indeed it is! As our internal performance promise states: Get new ideas off the ground beyond borders. Beyond conventional ways of thinking, beyond internal unit borders, beyond organizational borders, and beyond national borders. Our perspective therefore has to extend beyond the units. We work with external innovation partners, start-ups, universities, state institutions and foreign postal organizations. To drive the development and implementation of business ideas forward, and to create new impetus, we send employees on study visits to Silicon Valley, Berlin or Asia. Together with several Swiss companies, we also take part in the Swiss Innovation Outpost in Berlin. What tools do you use to facilitate innovation? We work with a range of tools, and always with the aim of enabling employees to develop their ideas, projects and visions. Every innovation irre- spective of its size, complexity or importance begins with an idea. Our job is therefore to ensure that new ideas can emerge and that they re given a chance. That calls for an innovation-friendly corporate culture. To give some examples, we are responsible for the Group-wide innovation fund and the Postidea company suggestions scheme, and in 2015 we held the PostVenture15 business idea competition together with external partners and universities. In intensive workshops, which we call Boost Camps, we develop promising business ideas over a few days in order to reach a decision on whether to continue to invest in the project or cancel it. These are all examples of activities that enable innovation. 4 /21

Development & Innovation Success stories Best of 2015 Parcels flying through the air Swiss Post is testing the use of drones (see page 6). Drive safely through the city in a driverless Postbus? This will soon be a reality in Sion (see page 7). Medical reports, prescriptions and X-rays always at hand for all. The electronic patient record makes it possible (see page 8). Post your ballot in the nearest letter box? Thanks to the e-voting platform, you will soon also be able to vote at the click of a mouse (see page 9). Employees in Silicon Valley? Of course (see Page 10)! The products and devices in the world are starting to communicate with each other and make our everyday lives easier. Here again, Swiss Post is on the ball thanks to the winners of the business idea competition (see page 11). Whether in open or closed groups, communities, wikis or blogs about 10,000 employees use PostConnect, the internal collaboration platform (see page 12). 6 Drones for logistics Swiss Post takes off To save time, the village doctor has a patient s blood sample flown to the laboratory by drone. This seemingly futur- istic scenario is within the realm of possibility: Swiss Post is testing the use of drones. Even in dense fog and snow, the GPS-guided drone with the blood sample would quickly get to its destination. With a load of one kilo and a fully-charged battery, today s models designed for transport can manage ten kilometres, says Janick Mischler, project manager at Swiss Post, who in early summer 2015 tested the commercial use of drones in a small team working together with Swiss WorldCargo, the air freight division of Swiss International Air Lines and Califor- nian drone manufacturer Matternet. The results give us confidence. The first deployments for special applications will soon be possible. However, the specific business cases that Swiss Post will implement depend on which companies want to focus on this highly specialized type of delivery and are willing to open up to this innovative form of logistics. Swiss Post is helping to shape development The cases in which drones might be used are already becoming apparent: in emergencies, to deliver supplies to places cut off from the outside world after a storm, or to transport high priority special consignments. We are at the dawn of an exciting new development. All development paths are still open, says project manager Andrea Marrazzo. We also actively help shape technical development with our tests. The project for the use of drones is part of the successful co- operation between PostLogistics and E. Getting the drones off the ground requires not only the necessary expertise in transport logistics, but also plenty of patience and development work. Cooperation between units is both very valuable and essential in achieving this. Dieter Bambauer, Head of PostLogistics Complement, don t replace Will drones compete with conventional parcel deliveries? In the near future, the use of drones will not extend beyond a niche market. We don t have the required technology to use drones more extensively for deliveries, and the law doesn t currently allow it. Swiss Post delivers 115 million parcels per year. Volumes like that are unlikely to be replaced across the board by drones. I expect that in the future, drones will complement traditional parcel delivery, not replace it. How does the project fit in with Swiss Post s strategy? The use of drones in logistics is very interesting for Swiss Post, which is why we re testing various possible applications for such devices. We aim to use the drones to build up our own experience and know-how, and we expect that this will give us an advantage over the competition. 6 /21

Autonomous electric shuttle buses Self-driving and safe on the roads Mobility Lab Sion-Valais A Postbus with no steering wheel, no pedals and no driver? This will soon be a reality in Sion. PostBus is testing two autonomous electric shuttle buses. They will soon be circulating safely through the Valais capital. Like science fiction, but reality: computers steer the autono- mous electric shuttle buses safely and reliably through the traffic with the help of sensor data, GPS and accurate maps. Since December 2015, specialists have been testing the two vehicles from French manufacturer Navya in an enclosed area in Sion. The law does not yet provide for autonomous vehicles on the roads, but once the relevant authorities issue the special permits required, the electric shuttle buses will soon be carrying up to eight passengers safely through Sion city center although still with specially trained staff on board. Maybe even as soon as summer During testing, the maximum speed of the shuttle buses is 20 km/h. They navigate to the centimetre, and using a range of different sensors, can recognize all obstacles and traffic signals. An increase in capacity and a reduction in the number of accidents are important reasons why companies, uni - versi ties and government agencies around the world are con- ducting research into self-driving vehicles. New locations for public transport PostBus will not use the autonomous vehicles on existing bus routes. The aim is rather to open up areas that are not currently served by public transport, whether in urban pedes- trian zones, as in Sion, traffic-calming areas, company premises or car-free villages, emphasizes Daniel Landolf, Head of PostBus. The project participants also want to find out which of the population s mobility requirements autonomous shuttles cover best. Big boost for innovative mobility solutions It is no coincidence that the auto- nomous shuttle buses are being tested in Sion: at the end of 2012, the Open Innovation team at Swiss Post E and the mobility experts at PostBus got together with ETH Lausanne and HES-SO Valais-Wallis to start their collaboration in the field of mobility. This led to the creation of the Mobility Lab Sion-Valais, which also involves the canton of Valais and the city of Sion. A panel of experts headed by PostBus is develop- ing and testing innovative solutions for moving people. The aim is to improve mobility sustainably, with specialists working on alternatives to the private car, studies on the use of bike and car sharing services such as PubliBike, or the development of innovative services such as digital ticket solutions, which are designed for example to also allow easy check-in and automatic check-out. For the development of autonomous shuttle buses, Swiss Post E and PostBus are working together with BestMile, a spin-off of ETH Lausanne. How Open Innovation at Swiss Post E works: 7/21

ehealth: the electronic patient record All in one Five knee operations, countless X-rays, prescriptions and medical reports. Three years after his accident, snowboarder Lucien H. is back in top form. Thanks to Swiss Post s electronic patient record, he has had his documents under control at all times. The mountain of documents relating to Lucien s knee injury grew from operation to operation in unison with his frustration. It was as if he were jinxed: more often than not, a doctor, physiotherapist or hospital was lacking an important piece of information. On the advice of his doctor, the snowboarder had an electronic patient record opened. Since then, the flow of data between him and his healthcare professionals has been running smoothly. Lucien could now view his own data in the patient record. But what is more important to him is that the attending healthcare professionals can access all information at all times, which is advantageous to the quality and efficiency of treatment. And data protection is also always guaranteed. Lucien H. has full confidence in the Swiss Post patient record. And rightly so: it complies with the recommendations of ehealth Suisse and meets all of the requirements of the Swiss federal law on the electronic patient record. vivates Comprehensive, secure and fast The patient record is a module in the digital ehealth platform vivates, which also includes other modules such as Referral, Medication, Treatment Plan and Report Transfer. As digital hubs, they record the relevant information, encrypt it and relay it securely to the required providers. The attending physicians, consult- ants and carers have exclusive and immediate access to the data. All modules can be combined with each other. With the integra- tion of hcri AG, quality surveys have also been included in Swiss Post s ehealth services since the end of From the outset, Swiss Post has been an ehealth pioneer. Launched in 2009, the project is now the biggest in place at E. At the end of 2015, the ehealth team employed more than 60 people. 9 E-voting Elections and referendums at the click of a mouse With e-voting, Swiss Post allows voters to cast their votes electronically in elections and referendums. The use of the latest cryptographic technologies prevents data falsification and manipulation. Xavier Monnat, e-voting project manager Xavier Monnat, e-voting project manager Swiss Post guarantees the secrecy of the ballot Swiss Post guarantees the secrecy of the ballot Voting at the ballot box? Already an outdated tradition. Today, the most popular method is voting by letter. But there are even more practical solutions in sight that will allow voters to vote online any time and anywhere with their smartphone, tablet or computer easily, conveniently and securely. This is made possible by Swiss Post s e-voting solution, which simplifies the casting of votes, particularly for Swiss nationals resident abroad. The cantons of Neuchâtel and Fribourg have decided to start using Swiss Post s solution in Security takes highest priority The latest cryptographic technologies ensure that votes cannot be falsified and data cannot be manipulated in Swiss Post s e-voting solution. Voters and the electoral authorities can check whether the votes cast have been saved correctly at any time. This is done by sending a security code to all voters by physical post together with their referendum or election documents, which they then use to log in to their canton s e-voting platform. They can now cast a single vote, which is then stored, en- crypted and anonymized, in the electronic ballot box. Only the canton s electoral commission can open the ballot box and decrypt and count the votes. It is not possible to make inferences about individual voters from the votes cast. 10 Swiss Post goes to Silicon Valley Sojourn in another world On the initiative of E, Swiss Post has since 2015 been sending selected employees for a stay of one to three months in California s Silicon Valley to promote business ideas and encourage a spirit of innovation. In the video, Nikoletta Seraidou recounts her ex- periences in America. Nikoletta Seraidou spent four weeks in California, where the Swiss PostBus employee established contacts, validated business ideas in the area of public transport and looked into the use of new technologies. Since 2015, Swiss Post has been offering study trips to Silicon Valley to selected employees. The project was launched by E to promote the development of new business and process ideas and encourage a spirit of innovation. During her first few days in Palo Alto, Nikoletta Seraidou found that she was frequently amazed. In Silicon Valley, people go through the day with a marked sense of equanimity unlike the attitude Nikoletta Seraidou is accustomed to in Switzerland. They wait calmly in traffic. They stay cool as they queue at the famous coffee houses. And sometimes they turn up an hour late for meetings, she says. Cultural differences The differences to the Swiss mentality were clear: the Americans are much more easygoing in their investment decisions than decision-makers in Switzerland. If someone in America has a good business idea, they will quickly find support and financial backers. Large sums are invested quickly. Nobody gets too worked up about the risk, says Nikoletta Seraidou. Nobody seems to be bothered by financial losses when eight out of ten new projects go belly-up. On the contrary: the project managers are happy because two projects have got off to a successful start. Swiss Post in Silicon Valley Looking beyond national borders What products and services will be in demand in the future? If you want to know, you need to understand the latest technologies, trends and business models. Swiss Post has a presence in innovation-friendly regions like Silicon Valley. In study trips lasting several weeks in Califor- nia s Palo Alto, selected employees work on an innovation topic for their Group unit. They work through a particular business topic, gather knowledge and experience, and focus on their own personal development. Together with several Swiss compa- nies, Swiss Post also takes part in the Swiss Innovation Outpost in Berlin, where start-ups looking to expand into Switzerland gain access to established companies. 10 /21

PostVenture ideas competition When sensors order supplies As part of the PostVenture15 business idea competition, employees and people outside the company were given the opportunity to submit their business ideas. The winning idea involved developing a wireless network to connect products and devices intelligently to the Internet. A stolen bicycle shares its location with its owner and the printer orders its own colour cartridges in good time. Fiction? No, reality. These are examples of the Internet of things. Why not also a rack in a customer s warehouse that automati- cally orders replenishment supplies from PostLogistics when a minimum level is reached? The Internet of things is a technical advance that Swiss Post can t ignore, assert Janick Mischler and Stefan Metzger. The two employees see specific opportunities for Swiss Post to make intelligent objects marketable, particularly in the area of logistics. We however consult with all units on the applica- tions that are conceivable and have potential. Wireless radio network to be built The necessary sensor technology already exists and is no longer expensive. What Swiss Post is still lacking, however, is a com patible low-power wireless radio network. As part of the PostVenture15 business idea competition, Mischler and Metzger proposed building and testing just such a wireless network. As the business idea has great potential, the network will now actually be built for a pilot project. Other ideas from the PostVenture competition that have won awards and are being followed up: Contractibus by Christoph Aeberhard (C) offers consumers easy and secure management of contract documents; PM s Tassilo von Schönberg s Dande- lion will allow customers to incorporate postcard mailing into their websites. PostVenture PostVenture the Swiss Post business idea competition Under the name of PostVenture15, Swiss Post went looking for new business ideas. The business idea competition was held for the second time in In 2015 it was open not only to Swiss Post employees, but also to people outside the company. Of the 135 ideas submitted, the most promising were followed up in intensive workshops, with those submitting them receiving support from internal and external experts. In recognition of the knowledge acquired and as a reward for their commitment, employees who participated in an intensive workshop received an advanced training certificate from ETH Zurich. 45 ideas were then presented to the jury, which selected the ten best. These received start-up financing and a mandate to validate their ideas with the support of experts. 11 /21

PostConnect Well connected in the digital workplace PostConnect is used by Swiss Post employ- ees to connect across units and roles. The Group s internal collaboration platform enables efficient cooperation and helps to develop innovations. Swiss Post has equipped more than 20,000 logistics employ- ees with new handheld scanners. To share the knowledge required to use them, PostLogistics relies on PostConnect. The project team makes instructions available through the colla- boration platform and works together with IT for example on technical documents. It maintains contact with the superusers on site through the open group in PostConnect and answering questions about the scanners. Although the group was opened primarily for employees of PostLogistics, this shows one of the great advantages of PostConnect, according to project member Vanessa Bianco: users questions and the answers they re- ceive are visible across the entire Group. This means that know ledge is no longer stockpiled in the units, but is available to everyone. Employees share their knowledge The number of cross-unit projects pursued by Swiss Post is grow- ing all the time. Employees therefore need tools to access the knowledge distributed across the Group and work together on topics, wherever they happen to be. Against this back- ground, the Development & Innovation unit introduced the PostConnect digital collaboration platform, which is now operated and developed by Group Communication. On Post- Connect, employees can view the specialist knowledge made available by their colleagues and contact them directly. A range of different workspaces open and closed groups, communities, wikis and blogs make many diverse forms of digital cooperation possible. 12 /21 Andreas Eggimann, Head of Digital Management, Group Communication With PostConnect, we re taking an important step What does PostConnect mean for Swiss Post? With PostConnect, we re taking an important step, both culturally and technically, towards internal digital collaboration. This is essential in ensuring that we remain competitive and attractive in the future. So it s about improving the distri- bution of existing knowledge? Yes, but not only that. It s no coincidence that the Development & Innovation unit initiated the colla- boration platform: when employees interact beyond the borders of units and roles, new ideas emerge. PostConnect strengthens Swiss Post s innovative capacity. How successful is PostConnect? There were many success stories right from the start. More than 11,000 employees have now activ- ated their profile and are cur- rently exchanging information in around 2,700 workspaces.

A second lease of life for Swiss Post clothes Too good to throw away What happens to worn, damaged or torn Swiss Post clothes? Since 2015, work clothes that are being replaced have been collected and recycled in collaboration with the Red Cross. Coats and hats, blouses and jackets, cargo pants and t-shirts: Around 35,000 Swiss Post employees wear work clothes at work. Every year, Swiss Post hands in more than 300,000 items of clothing. They are worn for many, many hours. In time, you can see it. But do they have to be thrown away? No, says Swiss Post. Collection as opposed to disposal Used Swiss Post clothing cannot currently be recycled like other old clothes. Clothes that bear the Swiss Post logo cannot be handed over to third parties. Disposal used to be the only option for these clothes, explains Antonia Stalder, Sustainability project manager in charge of the campaign. Since 2015, Swiss Post therefore organizes its own collection campaigns. Here s how it works Employees hand in their replaced work clothes at their work- place, where they are collected and delivered to the Red Cross. Red Cross workers remove the logos and sort the clothes. The individual pieces of clothing are used differently depending on their quality. The aim is to use the clothes for the benefit of the Swiss population, explains Antonia Stalder. Undamaged clothes are sold by the Red Cross in its second-hand shops. The proceeds are used to finance social projects in Switzerland. Slightly worn clothes go to organizations, including Swiss Mountain Aid. And badly damaged clothes are used as raw materials in industry, where they are processed for example into cleaning cloths or insulation material. The campaign A second lease of life for Swiss Post clothes was initiated by the INN process. Antonia Stalder, Sustainability project manager at Swiss Post Three good reasons Antonia Stalder, Sustainability project manager at Swiss Post, heads the campaign A second lease of life for Swiss Post clothes in collaboration with the units. In this interview, she sets out three good reasons for Swiss Post to recycle its work clothing. 13/21

Postidea: 1,649 ideas submitted Successful: Every 10th idea implemente d Innovation Management Tools for a big boost to innovation Whether small and simple, large and complex, or even relevant to the Group as a whole: ideas are the lifeblood of Swiss Post. This is why various tools are available to staff for introducing their proposals and projects. The Development & Innovation unit (E) makes targeted use of collaborative web platforms and provides tools that support innovation. But the unit also brings selected external knowledge and partners into the company to ensure that companies such as innovative start-ups have an interest in getting Swiss Post involved as a partner in their projects. E thinks globally and cultivates valuable partnerships in innovation ecosystems such as Silicon Valley or Berlin. The tools made available by E are used extensively. 17 idea campaigns completed Our Innovation Management 9,618 suggestions for improvement via the Kaizen Board 37 financed projects in the INN process 150 business ideas structured with CO-STAR Creator PostVenture: 135 business ideas submitte d 350 start-ups observed 11,000 employees in 2,700 PostConnect group s 14 /21 26 start-ups analysed in detail

Open innovation Innovating together with partners Thanks to selected partnerships, Swiss Post has been involved in important developments in Switzerland from the outset. Abroad, it is well connected in the inno- vation hotspots of Silicon Valley and Berlin. Swiss Post actively keeps track of developments and trends in the environment. In developing innovations, the expertise of external partners is just as important as the experience of its own business units. The Open Innovation team at E acts as a link. With its start-up screening and trend scouting pro- grammes, it detects and observes market and technological developments, identifying interesting business opportunities for Swiss Post at an early stage. The team also forms the hinge between the Swiss Post business units, interesting start-ups, universities, government institutions and foreign postal organi- zations. It brings together the right experts and supports the Swiss Post Group units in their collaboration with external partners. Testing shuttle buses and drones Working together with mobility experts at PostBus, the Open Innovation team has obtained a joint commitment from ETH Lausanne, HES-SO Valais-Wallis, the canton of Valais and the city of Sion for the Mobility Lab Sion-Valais. Thanks to the Mobility Lab, the partners are today developing innovative mobility solutions such as the autonomous shuttle buses described on page 7. Together with PostLogistics, Swiss WorldCargo and Californian drone manufacturer Matternet, the Open Innovation teams is testing the commercial use of drones for parcel delivery (see page 6). Start-up screening Swiss Post attaches particular importance to making contact with start-ups with promising business ideas in the areas of communication, logistics, retail finance or personal mobility. Of some 350 start-ups monitored in 2015, Swiss Post took a closer look at 26 of them and initiated ten specific partnerships. If the start-ups are interested, the Open Innovation team enters into dialogue with them and develops a joint use case. In searching selectively for suitable start-ups, Swiss Post works with TechBridge (for Switzerland and Germany) and the Plug&Play Tech Center (for Silicon Valley/USA). It also makes use of other tools such as the INN process (see page 16), which signifi- cantly shortens the time frame from screening of the companies to the implementation of an innovation. In the crucibles of innovation Swiss Post is also extremely well connected in important inno- vation hotspots, particularly where the players interact for mutual benefit as is the case in California s Silicon Valley or in Berlin in crucibles of innovation. Swiss Post therefore sends selected staff members to Palo Alto in Silicon Valley, and joins several Swiss companies to take part in the Swiss Innovation Outpost in Berlin (see page 10). Laurent Decrue, founder and CEO of MOVU Swiss Post is initiating a joint project with Zurich-based start-up MOVU. Laurent Decrue, founder and CEO of MOVU, explains how the collabo- ration with Swiss Post came about. What services does your start-up offer? We re a relocation platform that makes relaxed, stress-free moving possible. Our customers receive offers from quality-tested relocation and cleaning companies from the region from where they are moving, along with a personal consultation. How did the joint project with Swiss Post come about? We were given the opportunity to make our proposal for cooperation through Swiss Post s start-up screen- ing programme. At the time, the PostMail unit had already developed a product idea that allowed for comprehensive support for relocation, not just the change of address from A to B. These deliberations led to a joint project designed to combine the visions of both MOVU and Swiss Post for making relocating much easier. What is your experience of working with Swiss Post? Positive. Despite the size difference, Swiss Post s work with us is respectful and on an equal footing.

INN process The innovation pipeline Bringing business ideas to market quickly: Swiss Post s INN process makes it possible. In the ideal case, promising projects are piloted as a new product or service on the market in less than one year. Outline, enlarge upon, optimize, pilot and implement. These are the stages that employees business or process optimization ideas run through in the INN process. Presenting to the Executive Management Committee The INN process combines innovation speed with high quality, both guaranteed by the INN jury and the Executive Mana- gement Committee Innovation, New Business & Sustainability (KLA INN). The latter is chaired by CEO Susanne Ruoff. Five other members of Executive Management and a represent- ative of the PostFinance Executive Board are members of the KLA INN. Many employees are motivated by the opportunity to present innovative projects to representatives of Executive Management. Two selection stages Pre-selection is the responsibility of a jury of representatives from the units (the INN jury). Under the direction of Claudia Pletscher, Head of E, the jury members assess current ideas and projects each month and decide which projects will receive financial support. In 2015, the panel examined ten ideas still in the preliminary stages and decided on their financing, and also provided KLA INN with funding recommendations concern- ing nine projects at a more advanced stage. Based on these recommendations, KLA INN then gave the green light for the financing of the relevant pilot phases. Encouraging year of innovation Swiss Post Innovation Management accompanies, advises and supports the project managers from the idea to market readiness. Over 100 projects have been through the INN process since August For these projects, Swiss Post earmarks Top of INN SmartShuttle Shaping the mobility of the future. In 2015, 37 projects benefited from financial support from the INN fund, up more than one third over The decisions regarding study trips to Silicon Valley (see page 11) are made by KLA INN. As a result, six selected individuals were given the opportunity in 2015 to work for several weeks on their innovation topic in Palo Alto, California. The INN event the networking event for members of the KLA INN and the INN jury established itself further in The opportunity to discuss current innovation projects and themes is extremely well-regarded. CO-STAR Creator Well structured for success At Swiss Post, business ideas are prepared using the comprehensible and compact CO-STAR structuring method. Each letter represents a central element of a business idea: Customer Opportunity Solution Team Advantage Results. In order to simplify its use for your employees, Swiss Post developed the CO-STAR Creator web-based tool, which supports employees in the development of ideas with illustrative animated films, valuable tips and comprehensible practical examples. Since 2015, CO-STAR Creator has additional features and is more user-friendly. In 2015, 150 business ideas were structured with CO-STAR Creator. More than 180 new employees have registered on the platform. Most users make use of the built-in colla- boration options available in CO-STAR Creator. The lively discussions be- tween colleagues promote the quality of the ideas and accelerate their implementation. 16 /21

Culture of innovation A greenhouse for ideas Swiss Post is open to new business ideas. It provides resources and applies methods to ensure that innovations mature quickly. In its Boost Camps, where the ideas of employees or business partners are rapidly pushed forward, the level of agility is particularly striking. A delivery manager at PostMail had an idea: a mobile app he can use to easily block his various bank and credit cards in an emergency and order new cards at the same time. The business idea is in line with the vision of Simple yet systematic Swiss Post, is innovative and meets a customer require- ment. The PostVenture jury has also recognized this. The employee received start-up financing and an invitation to a six-day intensive workshop, known as the Boost Camp, where he explored the business opportunities with the help of expert guidance. After examining all of the important facets, he decided to withdraw the project, as its chances of success were low. But what this example shows is that Swiss Post also wins when the Boost Camp leads to the early realization: don t go on. The company saves costs and quickly gains new insights. For Swiss Post, as for any other company, the rule is: to be successful, you must consciously take risks and be willing to learn. Bringing business ideas to life We need to make business ideas come alive at a very early stage and get feedback from customers, experts and decision- makers. That means bringing everybody together. This is the only way we can make improvements at an early stage and avoid bad investments, says Roland Keller, Head of Innovation Culture. The Boost Camp brings several innovation projects together. For each project, a temporary start-up is founded. The start-up team for each project is made up of the project manager, software developers and user experience designers. Working with lawyers, IT experts and brand specialists, they work out the decision-making bases to be presented to the decision-maker. The teams proceed iteratively and survey business and private customers on the basis of a prototype. The keywords here are lean start-up and design thinking, which allow for a quick decision as to whether it is worthwhile to continue investing in the project. This maturing process used to take at least 60 days with the Boost Camp, it s down to six. We catapult business ideas to the next level, says Roland Keller. Roland Keller, Head of Innovation Culture Who dares wins! What is a good culture of innovation? An corporate culture that is condu- cive to innovation is marked by openness, collaboration, networking and personal responsibility. New ideas are allowed, the focus is on the customer benefit, things get tried out and improved or stopped. How does Swiss Post foster its culture of innovation? To give some examples, Swiss Post promotes knowledge transfer and personal responsibility through the PostConnect online collaboration platform. Swiss Post goes to Silicon Valley gives employees a perspective beyond the boundaries of the com- pany. With PostVenture, promising business ideas both internal and external are identified and promot- ed. The Boost Camp helps partici- pants to quickly get specific and to learn from mistakes. This makes Swiss Post more agile. 17 /21

Ideation Entertaining ideas! Whether small and simple, large and complex, or even relevant to the Group as a whole: ideas are the lifeblood of Swiss Post. This is why various tools are available to staff for introducing their proposals and projects. Modern approaches and methods help people submitting ideas to bring their ideas to life be- cause ideas must be entertained and nurtured if they are to be successfully developed into innovations. Entertaining ideas, is therefore the motto! Postidea Big and small ideas for improving products and processes are guided by existing procedures. As a corporate suggestion scheme, Postidea is the right address for simple and spontane- ous suggestions for adjustments and improvements. Employ- ees can submit their ideas intuitively on the Postidea web platform or from their mobile phone. More complex business ideas are channelled directly into the INN process. Postidea proved very successful in 2015: 1,649 employee sug- gestions were received. The implementation rate remained constant: once again, almost one idea in ten was implemented. Ideas campaigns The ideas campaign tool is useful for people who need quick and high-quality input on specific problems and questions from specific groups of employees. While the initiative in the Postidea programme comes from individual employees, the opposite is true for the ideas campaigns: employees benefit from the knowledge and experience of their colleagues. The ideas campaign and Postidea tools therefore complement each other perfectly. KAIZEN in PostMail While Postidea enables employees to submit ideas relating to any topic relevant to Swiss Post, the KAIZEN approach involves calling on their everyday experience at their own workplace to show how processes can be improved in their direct work environment and how wastage can be prevented. In 2015, more than 9,600 improvements were suggested at PostMail, of which 7,250 have been checked and some 5,625 have already been introduced. Thanks to KAIZEN, PostMail saved almost 11,000 man hours last year and more than 700,000 francs. International award for ideas management In early 2016, Swiss Post won the Best Ideas Management International Award presented each year by the Zentrum für Ideen- und Innovations- management (Center for Ideas and Innovation Management). These international awards go to companies with the best ideas management systems. Swiss Post s ideas management is closely interlinked with innovation management. Every innovation irres- pective of its size, complexity or importance begins with an idea. Depending on the type and complexi- ty of the idea, it is handled in the narrow sense within ideas manage- ment or incorporated into the subsequent innovation management processes. This ensures that employee ideas go to the right place and are developed using modern approaches, regardless of the channel used to submit them. 18 /21
