EU projects why work with us? We don t just do projects, we make innovation happen the Nordic way! 88 M Our success in EU projects Biggest funded application (NER-funding) Our competitive advantages... Extensive experience in EU funding instruments and innovation projects ~200 M H2020 funding to all partners 28 Passed SME applications: 16 SME-2, 12 SME-1 5 senior consultants with evaluation experience from altogether hundreds of EU funding proposals Well-proven tools and methodologies for collaborative project preparation and management 10+ man years of daily/weekly communication with EC (e.g. in conference projects) 100% 3 Success rate in FP7 Passed large scale JTI applications (BBI and Ecsel) One of the highest success rates in H2020 projects in Europe Customer satisfaction score in H2020 projects: 9 of 10 points

A typical project involves multiple partners, longterm risky R&D&I and external funding Supplier Company 1 Company 1 Multiple partners working together innovating along the value-chain Customer Company Outcomes: New products and services Demonstrated technologies Manufacturing methods Outcome Outcome

H2020 Benefits Externally funded projects are not only about the funding Your future products H2020 is based on roadmaps, signals and industrial lobbying The Calls may provide a hint where your competitors are going Partners Working with the best partners in Europe Engaging and assessing your future dream partners R&D sites & Pilots Access to publicly funded R&D sites Collaboration with Pilot facilities Longer term, wider view Collaborate to study for higher risk, longer term opportunities Positive PR Solving bigger challenges Having a greater socio-economical impact Regulation Influencing regulatory and standardization aspects Markets Finding new customers Creating new markets Funding Public funding for you and your partners Funding for things you might not afford otherwise

Why EU funding Accessing Open Innovation Networks through EU R&I projects Opportunity to try radical and disruptive innovations What is your next big invention? Can you afford not to innovate? Possibility to work with the best partners EU-project is a way to true partnerships. It is a way to give funding to your suppliers, partners and important customers. Your competitors are already doing R&D with EU funding Open innovation is for real: your competitors and peers are already there lobbying and innovating with the best partners The funding rates are 70 % or 100 % (and additional 25 % overhead on top of these) What is your fair share of funding and innovations? Times are challenging will your long term projects survive without external funding?

Why EU funding What kind of funding is available? What kind of activities are funded? Everything from Basic principle observed to actual system proven in operational environment. As long as you have not started making money with it. How big is the funding? Typical projects have 5-8 partners 2-8 M of funding. However both bigger and smaller projects are possible. Only open innovation or also closed? Mostly the funding is for collaborative projects. However, a few instruments are for one partner only. The partner can be a e.g. a city, a demonstration site, SME, university, big corporation. It can be your client or your subcontractor. Funding is not only for R&D but also available for e.g. process, business model, manufacturing innovations The opportunities are vast. Way forward is to take a moment to explore if there is something for you

Some examples: EU services and multipartner projects

EU Project EuroPAT-MASIP The European Packaging, Assembly and Test Pilot for Manufacturing of Advanced System-in- Package project will consolidate and extend the European leadership in semiconductor processing know-how and contribute towards keeping Europe at the forefront of the electronics technology development. Key Challenges More than 90 % of the semiconductor packaging, assembly and testing are outside the European value chain, in APAC. The increasing complexity of electronic systems, and the trend to System-in-Package (e.g. for IoT modules) solutions, present the chance to increase high added value advanced packaging manufacturing in Europe. Semiconductor packaging needs continuous improvement of the three critical factors in packaging - performance, form factor and cost. Project Goals and Results Increasing the competitiveness and global market share of the European semiconductor industry. Accelerating the manufacturing uptake of the new technologies and shortening time-to-market. The project will reinforce smart, sustainable economic growth for Europe, significantly contributing to Europe s competitiveness, and job creation in Europe. Key Project Characteristics The total project budget is about 30 M, including 7,2 M from Horizon 2020 programme within the Electronics Components and Systems for European Leadership (ECSEL) Joint Undertaking and 5,5 M from National authorities 28 partners from 9 European countries The project ranked in the top 3 of proposals accepted in the call Spinverse s Role Full service facilitation of the proposal writing process since the first steps Daily admin of the project management, supporting the project Coordinator Communication and Dissemination of the project PACKAGING SiP

EU project ReTAPP Re-Thinking All Plastic Packaging EU funding coaching and application review for a consortium lead by MetGen Project Goals and Results The consortium will improve their processes through enzymatic solutions to quality, performance and economics of their renewable packaging material. Project enables production of plastics from wood a sustainable solution entirely from renewable materials that is also technically and economically superior to the technologies and materials used today. Key challenges Challenge: Enable the use of hardwood for the production of fructose, to be used for the manufacturing of 100 % bio-based plastic bottles and other plastic packaging. This will be supported by advanced enzyme technologies of the project coordinator MetGen, and aims to replace the use of food/starch based fructose for plastics. Key project Characteristics 2.3 million in funding from the Horizon 2020 Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) instrument The consortium was among the 6 % of applicants to receive funding MetGen was the only successful Finnish project participant in the FTI call in 2015 Spinverse role Supported the client MetGen and the consortium members from Sweden and the Netherlands to apply for Horizon 2020 funding Assisted the members of the consortium in the application procedures Actively worked to ensure the overall quality of the project proposal

LuxTurrim5G Building key enablers for a Digital Smart City LuxTurrim5G is developing and demonstrating single fast 5G network based on smart light poles with integrated antennas, base stations, sensors, screens and other devices. This joint project opens new digital services and business opportunities for a real smart city. Key Challenges Smart cities need digital service infrastructure to improve safety, energy efficiency, air quality, effectivity of transportation and quality of living However, the capacity of mobile networks will be far too insufficient due to the increased number of users and new digital services built and planned The problem can only be solved by using small cell 5G radio frequency technology & higher frequencies; this requires dense networks of antennas setting new requirements for the network infrastructure Project Goals and Results Develop & pilot key technical solutions and concept for smart light pole based 5G infrastructure, and business & service innovations Create an open access ecosystem for digital services Pilot services on navigation, information sharing & advertisement, weather monitoring and smart lighting Key Project Characteristics Highly multi-disciplinary joint R&D project developing composite and antenna materials, smart light pole design, miniaturized 5G base stations and integrated sensors The project creates novel digital services, business models and ecosystem 9 companies and 3 research institutes, with project volume of 15 M (1st phase) from Tekes and the companies Spinverse s Role Facilitation of building the multidisciplinary project, preparation of the joint research plan Comprehensive project management and leadership, supporting the project Coordinator (Nokia Bell Labs) Technical steering, internal and external communications, events as well as boosting cooperation and assisting in reporting
