District s activity with Global Grant projects in the Rotary Zone No.15 5 GG from 38 GG in the Zone with 15 Districts.

3 how to make choice between grant types? / / / / 2018 DDF FOR GG DDF FOR DG importance of Rotary education, comprehensible presentations in seminars, «business games», newsletters, clear demonstration of evaluation principles, focused encouragement for implementing GG.

4 networks amount of Rotary Clubs - partners in the latest GG projects 6 10, the new grant model requires broader networks networks mostly around Rotary clubs from Riga - as local leaders in Latvia with more experience, contacts and long lasting trust, most of the partners from Sweden, very successful cooperation with Oklahoma RC the biggest RC in the world.

5 specific character for networks in most cases the primary sponsor club international partner initiates the basic idea for a GG project, the host club elaborates it in details, Latvia as a partner for Rotary Clubs in Central and Northern Europe project site relatively close to monitor and observe the outcome, new character of network host clubs turn into sponsor clubs. problems sometimes sponsor clubs do not want to share responsibilities and mainly success of the project with other partners, (especially partners from different countries), initiatives from the needs side Rotary Clubs are less successful to start a GG project.

6 needs assessment focus areas for the Global Grant projects in Latvia: maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, peace and conflict prevention. forms to seek for specific needs and objectives: mostly continuation of previous aid actions with reliable partners organisations or institutions, (hospitals, social centres, schools), efforts of seeking for similar project ideas within the District to encourage clubs for cooperation to dare to start a bigger project, clubs closer to project site are being involved in the network, - needs in small places are evident and easy to identify. some communities carry out broad citizens forums to set the needs relevant for majority helpful instrument for Rotar Clubs.

7 GLOBAL GRANTS (GG) IN DISTRICT 2410 GG # R10 Jekabpils Equipment for care of prematurely born babies and diagnosis for early pathologies in perinatal care centre of Jekabpils hospital. Education groups for emerging mothers. Involved: Riga RC, Jekabpils RC, 8 Rotary clubs in Sweden from the District 2340, D2340, D2410. Total USD, DDF USD

8 aspects of sustainability and monitoring aspects of sustainability ECONOMIC - on-going funding source for operation and maintenance is established (Jekabpils Regional Hospital), SOCIAL the very low demographic parameters are raised, giving hope for many families. Possible pathologies can be detected early, providing urgent help needed for infants. Partnership itself (the 10 common project) as an aspect of sustainability. monitoring the use of the high frequency neonatal oscillation ventilator is continual. Medical personal is extremely positively touched being able to help in critical situations. 169 children had received treatment thanks to this GG project. 10 educational seminars for the young mothers had been held. 3 training seminars for Perinatal Centre staff had been held.

Involved: Riga RC, Mönsterås RC, Kalmar RC, Oskarshamn RC, Oskarshamn- Döderhult RC, Karlskoga-Nobel RC, Talsi RC, D2340, D5750, D2410. Total USD, DDF USD

10 aspects of sustainability and monitoring aspects of sustainability ECONOMIC - on-going funding source for operation and maintenance is established (Veģi Social Centre), ceramists from the closest region use to work in the workshop, giving extra expertise. CULTURAL traditional practices are incorporated and local materials used. Diversity of people is a value, (people in needs). monitoring clients of the Social Care Centre people with physical and mental disorders learn new skills, new talents arise. personal of the Social Care Centre gets valuable training about difficult situations in their everyday work. Training is still going on. clients of the centre use the sensor room very heartily, balancing their emotions. advices from Mārtiņš Daiga (responsible in RI) are very valuable.

Training for youth workers to mediate conflict situations. Activities and equipment. Involved: Riga Hansa RC, Bordesholm RC, D1890, D2410. Total USD, DDF USD

Equipment purchased locally. CULTURAL customary practices are incorporated choosing the branches of interest for young people. SOCIAL training programs to prepare workers and local instructors for work with violent juveniles. Similar idea has been previously successful in Bordesholm, Germany, friendship city for Ķekava. monitoring RC members took part in lessons, discussions, evaluation of results, parameters for juvenile violence cases have decreased, (police), total number of beneficiaries educational programs for youngsters and adults, 2 conferences, 3 day camps, sports tournament.
