1 The Bridge Volunteer Newsletter February 2016 INSIDE THIS ISSUE What s New... 2 New Ticket Pick Up Options... 2 Upcoming Trainings... 3 AileyCamp Miami...3 Spring Potluck..4 Incentive Hours...5 Fall in love with the Arts! February is an exciting month for the Center as Robert Battle returns home to unveil a piece especially commissioned as a part of the 10@10. From the Ballet to the Opera, you will be sure to experience the Passion (CST show) that the Arsht center has for sharing its love of the arts with the community. I am grateful to be able to lead a group that is just as passionate about the arts as I am and the proof is in the pudding! Last month, collectively, we completed 3,271 volunteer hours...the most we have done so far this fiscal year and almost 600 more hours than we did compared to last January. SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST Volunteer Outing Volunteer Tax Break Ailey Artistic Director Invitation Volunteer Cookbook Flamenco Festival Activities Around Town Congratulations team! Nicole
2 WHAT S NEW 1. Group Volunteering Opportunities 2. Ticket Pick up Process WHAT S COMING 1. Online Scheduling 2. Online Ticket Requests FAIRCHILD TROPICAL GARDEN VOLUNTEER OUTING With the help of the Advisory team, we are attempting to organize a volunteer outing at least twice a year. Our first one will take place: Date: Monday 3/21 Time: 10am. Location: Fairchild Tropical Garden Admission is free, however you are responsible for your own transportation. Boxed lunches are available for $12. If you are interested, please RSVP by March 14th as we need to provide a count. For those of you who still work, do not be dismayed. We already have in the works a plan for the next outing that will be outside of normal work hours so that you can participate as well. 3. Volunteer Outings 4. AileyCamp NEW TICKET PICK UP OPTIONS The Box Office, Group Sales and Volunteer Services have teamed up to make the process of picking up your tickets a little bit easier. Any box office representative can now print out tickets. You also now have the choice to print at home or request that your tickets be mailed out to you. Please see below the guidelines for each. From now on, if you would like to utilize either of the options below, it must be notated in your ticket request, otherwise it will default to pick up at the box office. Print at Home: You must verify that that the account that you are using is current and accurate and is the same that is attached to your volunteer account so that your ticket doesn t get lost in cyberspace. Mailing Tickets: This option is available so long as the request is at least 17 days prior to the show (it is typically 10 but the extra seven days has been built in since we only process ticket requests on Wednesdays). Otherwise, only the print at home or hold at box office option is available. Please keep in mind, when picking up tickets prior to the date of the performance at the box office, the 2 hour window before and 30 min window afterwards still applies. Thank you for your cooperation! 2
3 VOLUNTEER TAX BREAK! Did you know that you can get a tax break for your volunteer service? Ask your accountant about it! If you need an audit of all of your volunteering for 2015, send us a request and we will be happy to provide that for you. A SPECIAL INVITATION TO VOLUNTEERS FROM THE ARTISTIC DIREC- TOR OF ALVIN AILEY Education is hosting a free community conversation with Robert Battle, Artistic Director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He is a Miami native coming back to share his story. Please mark your calendars and share with your community. Great for the students and adults who want to hear his story. If you are interested, please submit the following information to vol services by February 29, 2016: Name of the Dish Type of Dish (beverage, appetizer, dessert, entrée etc) Ingredients The story that accompanies the recipe (if applicable) Pictures YUMMMMMMM! AILEYCAMP MIAMI This summer, 100 Miami-Dade County public middle school students, ages 11-14, are dancing their way to stronger self-images at the Adrienne Arsht Center s AileyCamp Miami, a six-week program that has become so popular that more than 500 young teens applied for the coveted spots. The boys and girls selected for this summer s camp come from some of Miami s most underserved neighborhoods. They will have the experience of a lifetime taking West African, Jazz, Modern and Ballet dance classes on our stages, while learning about nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention, critical thinking and other life skills in Personal Development and Creative Communication classes. This year we celebrate the 8 th anniversary season of AileyCamp Miami and we are humbled by the vast potential of the 680 young lives touched by this program. Through dance and spoken word, campers will explore their budding identities. If you know a child that may qualify, please encourage them to apply!
