2. Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment: Economic Policy Economic Policy Intern The Office of Economic Policy is the Agency's thought leader in economic analysis and capacity building. Our office specializes in cost-benefit analysis and inclusive growth diagnostics. The Office of Economic Policy is seeking an intern to support the technical work of cost benefit analysis (CBA) and inclusive growth diagnostics (IGDs). CBAs and IGDs look at a variety of sectors (i.e. health, infrastructure, agriculture) and apply economic analysis to the project level and strategy level, respectively. The intern will assist USAID economists in analysis, training and outreach for both technical tools. Page 2 of 17
3. Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment: Education Education Engagement and Communications Intern Office of Education is located within USAID s Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and Environment (E3/ED). The Education Office works to provide quality educational services, primarily at the basic and tertiary levels, and access to education in conflict and crisis settings, as laid out in the USAID Education Strategy. The Office serves as a center of technical excellence and leadership in the education sector. Its main roles are to: advance policy, strategy, and program excellence through shared research; provide technical assistance and transmission of best practices; and advance technical professionalization through training in core competencies and dissemination of tools. The Education Engagement Intern will assist with day-to-day office outreach and analysis, provide technical sector support and analysis, and implement self-directed research and operations projects. This includes assisting with events, social media, outreach to stakeholders and partners, conducting background research, and assisting with the creation of collateral materials such as fact sheets, one-pagers, briefers, reports, etc Page 3 of 17
4. Bureau for Europe and Eurasia: Program Office Research Analyst The Program Office is in the Europe and Eurasia Bureau. In addition to traditional Program Office functions, the Office houses the Monitoring Country Progress (MCP) team which conducts evidence-based analysis applied to programmatic and strategic considerations. The position will provide assistance to the Monitoring Country Progress team in data collection, analysis, and presentation. This will be done for country-specific "gap" analyses of countries in Eastern Europe and Eurasia as well as for sector-specific themes such as the extent and causes of labor market challenges in the Balkans; the impact of oil exports on democracy in Eurasia; the inter-relationship between economic and democratic reforms. The intern will be expected to contribute and focus on a sectorspecific theme as part of the team's working paper series. Page 4 of 17
5. Bureau for Global Health: Information for Strategic Information and Evaluation Strategic Information Intern The Information for Strategic Planning and Evaluation (ISPE) team provides assistance to PEPFAR supported countries with data collection, management and use focused on HIV epidemiology and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) reporting data. The team supports PEPFAR countries by developing and implementing surveys and surveillance, evaluations and Health information System (HIS) solutions. Additionally this team is critical in its role liaising with Global Fund, UNAIDS and WHO to ensure harmonization of HIV-related indicators for global reports. Recently, the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC) established an Interagency Collaborative focused on data collection, management and use to answer specific HIV epidemic questions. The Intern would liaise with the Collaborative while supporting the work of the ISPE team producing technical reports on program areas to support country teams program efficiently. This internship would likely require travel to the field to assist capacity-building work at country offices to ensure that the required data can be captured from existing country systems, that the data is of high quality and will work with country teams to assess epidemiology data, PEPFAR reporting indicators and expenditure analysis data. 7 6. Office of the Counselor: Local Solutions Local Solutions Intern Local government institutions, private sector partners, and civil society organizations serve as engines of growth and opportunity in their countries. The Local Solutions team leads USAID's renewed focus on strategically collaborating with local inventors, local entrepreneurs, and local businesses to harness the talent and potential of local actors in government, private sector, and civil society. TBA Page 6 of 17
7. U.S. Global Development Lab: Transition to Scale Collective Acceleration Intern The Center for Development Innovation supports the identification, incubation, and testing and acceleration of potential solutions to seemingly intractable development challenges. Within the Center, the Collective Acceleration Team builds the Agency's capacity to access global and local networks, strengthen local innovation ecosystems and more effectively accelerate scalable solutions from a broad range of solvers. The Collective Acceleration Intern will work closely with members on the team to improve our engagement in building an ecosystem of networking support and access to stakeholders, which will helpentrepreneurs scale their enterprises. Examples of tasks may involve: coordinating meetings with innovators and potential partners; managing network relationships through customer relationship management tools; and coordinating meetings with stakeholders around a development challenge. Page 7 of 17
8. U.S. Global Development Lab: Data and Analytics Team Data Intern Housing the Lab's Futures Analysis and Open Data initiatives, the Data and Analytics Team in the Center for Data, Analysis and Research develops partnerships, applies innovative technologies and approaches, and builds analytical capacity within USAID. By strengthening USAID's evidence base, the Data and Analytics Team works to turn "big data" into actionable information for development. The intern will be expected to conduct research and analysis for specific Data team programs to include collecting and organizing key data sources and tools for visualization and analysis. Representative projects might include the following: Social Media Analytics: Conduct research and analysis for the Data team around social media analytics and engage with several offices regarding the team's analysis licenses across the Agency. Conduct research and analysis for a case study and pilot project being implemented in the Philippines around the use of social media data. Turning Data into Action Prize: The Turning Data into Action Award is a USAIDinternal contest to promote and support innovative uses of data throughout the Agency. The award showcases activities that have used data to benefit past programming, and provides Lab assistance to add new data components to Agency activities. The intern will provide logistical support around the announcement of the prize, as well as support through the selection process. Open Data: With the release of its first ever open data policy, USAID is setting a new standard for opening U.S. government data on international development and is committed to public engagement through the process. The intern will work closely with the Open Data team through its efforts to promote this new policy across the Agency. In addition to the above portfolios, the intern will also provide general support for the Data and Analytics Team. Page 8 of 17
9. U.S. Global Development Lab: Global Partnerships Public-Private Partnerships Analyst The Global Partnerships office is the Agency's center of excellence in public-private partnerships. We support USAID's overall engagement with the private sector as well as managing a portfolio of partnerships focused on key private sector-oriented issues, including entrepreneurship. The intern's task will center on three areas, with the balance of tasks depending on the intern's specific skill set: (1) helping the Global Partnerships team improve its current and historical dataset of USAID's public-private partnerships; (2) providing analytical support to the team's Partnering to Accelerate Entrepreneurship (PACE) initiative; and (3) executing the team's overall corporate engagement strategy. (1) The team recently released a public dataset of nearly 1,400 public-private partnerships that USAID has engaged in since However, this dataset is based on data that was collected irregularly and in an unstandardized format, so the intern will work closely with the team using secondary research to improve the quality of this dataset, as well as potentially creating tools for the public to better access and use this data. This may be particularly well-suited to students with experience working with AidData's programs. (2) One of Global Partnerships' marquee programs, PACE, focuses on entrepreneurship acceleration, and the intern will support the implementation and analysis of this project. This may be particularly well-suited to students working on Duke's SEAD program, as there may be opportunities to link outcomes data from SEAD and PACE. (3) The intern will support the team's engagement with corporate partners, including supporting the management of relationships and events with the Lab's set of Cornerstone Partners. Page 9 of 17

17. U.S. Global Development Lab: Research Partnerships for Development Open Research Analyst The Research Partnerships for Development Team leverages the investments of the U.S. Government (USG) research industry's (NIH, NSF, NASA, USGS, etc.) expertise, data, technical abilities and access to cutting edge research communities to exponentially advance evidence to action in low and middle income countries. We do this by directly funding research scientists in our USAID priority countries, who partner with a USG funded scientist, to perform rigorous and impactful research that advances their local development needs. The development landscape is diverse and complex. Many as yet understood variables are hindering our ability to make major, break-through, changes in some of the worlds biggest challenges. In order to discover, then address this development blind-spots, the Lab will be rolling out a competition to: create and educate a community of thinkers, researchers and innovators; curate and source hypothesis driven problem statements and research questions; inspire and support this community to tackle these challenges. The intern will help support the compilation of innovative blind-spot ideas on a multimedia platform. The intern will actively participate on the online platform to encourage cross pollination of ideas, encourage deeper communication and work to articulate final products gained from discussion of this online community.
