2 Letter from the Vice President, Competition On behalf of Enterprize Canada 2014, I would like to extend my gratitude for your interest in our 2014 National Business Model Competition. As Canada s premier student-led resource for young entrepreneurs, we aim to provide promising undergraduates with opportunities to develop and thrive in their entrepreneurial ventures. Through our three-round competition structure, participants will learn to utilize feedback from our judging panels to strengthen various aspects of their models. This year is exciting as we have decided to place greater emphasis on the competition aspect of Enterprize Canada. We have decided to revisit the mentorship aspect of the competition as we feel that the feedback from our esteemed judges is invaluable to startup hopefuls like you. We have also converted the submission format to the business canvas to reflect the constant change and flexibility that entrepreneurs experience. These new features of the Business Model Competition will be a significant addition to your experience as well as a way to develop stronger ties between Enterprize Canada and the Canadian business community. The ideas and passion that you bring to our competition will help us to foster a progressive community of young Canadian entrepreneurs. 3 Enterprize Canada Overview Overview The 2014 Enterprize Canada National Business Model Competition is a diverse and multifaceted resource for the creative minds of undergraduate students seeking opportunities in the field of entrepreneurship. The judging panel for the competition will consist of business professionals with expertise in various fields for numerous years. Teams will be evaluated based on innovation, viability, growth, and the quality of their submissions. All decisions made by the judges are final. Why Compete? Participating in Enterprize Canada s National Business Model is the springboard to launch your entrepreneurial venture. Competitors are provided with: A national platform to pitch your new venture The opportunity to work with the new business canvas business plan format in conveying your business A cross-country entrepreneurial network Mentorship and resources throughout the competition Invaluable feedback from established entrepreneurs and professionals from a wide range of industries

4 Notable Past Participants The competition s learning path helps develop competitors entrepreneurial skills and propel them to success. Energy Aware University of British Columbia (2005): Energy Aware developed inhome energy displays to track the everyday use of energy and resources. They went on to have their products installed in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Village, successfully closed an Angel round of funding, and recently had their CEO featured on the cover of BC Business. PeerFX Regional Finalist (2007): Peer FX specializes in online foreign exchange and was featured on CBC s Dragon s Den where The Dragons offered to invest $200,000 in their venture. 5 Eligibility The National Business Model Competition is open to all fulltime students enrolled in a post-secondary institution for the current academic calendar year ( ). The following regulations regarding eligibility will be enforced by Enterprize Canada: a. Teams must consist of a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 members. b. Team members may be enrolled in different post-secondary institutions. They may also be enrolled in different faculties/disciplines. c. Teams must be comprised of undergraduate students only. d. Individuals can compete on one team only during and within the scope of the competition. e. Teams and individuals registered under the team who have competed in the Semi-Final and/or Final Rounds of any previous Enterprize Canada Business Model Competition are not eligible to compete. f. Businesses created more than 3 years prior to the date of application are not eligible to participate in this competition. g. Any exceptions to sections a-f must be brought to the attention and approved by the 2013/2014 Enterprize Canada Executive Team prior to submitting the application.
