5 Utah State Coaches Clancy Shields is in his second season as Utah State men s head tennis coach after being hired on May 2, Overall, Shields is the 19th head coach for the Aggie men in program history. During his first season at the helm of USU s men s tennis program, Shields led the Aggies to a 9-16 record. The nine wins were the most for Utah State in three years, and he coached three players into double-digit singles wins, while posting a.600 home winning percentage. Senior Fredrik Peterson, junior Marcus Fritz and freshman Sebastian Schneider were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, while the Aggie men were named to the ITA All-Academic Team. CLANCY SHIELDS Men s Head Coach Second Year Boise State, 2010 Utah State had six men s tennis players honored for academic excellence as four studentathletes earned academic all-mountain West honors, while two men s tennis players were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. Shields came to Utah State after spending time as an assistant men s tennis coach at Boise State from , helping the Broncos to back-to-back Mountain West Championships in 2012 and The Broncos advanced to their third NCAA Tournament with Shields in During his four years as an assistant at Boise State, Shields helped coach 10 players to allconference recognition, including the 2013 Mountain West Player of the Year as well as a Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year honor. In 2013, Shields was instrumental in helping BSU sign the No. 11 recruiting class nationally. During his time in Boise, Shields was also the director of the Boise Junior Tennis Program from Prior to his coaching career, Shields was named the 2009 WAC Player of the Year at Boise State and earned all-wac first-team honors for both doubles and singles play seven times throughout his collegiate career. Overall, Shields led the Broncos to three WAC titles (2006, 2007, 2009) and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. During his playing career, he was ranked as high as No. 17 in singles and No. 11 in doubles action in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association collegiate rankings. Shields, who graduated from Boise State in May, 2010 with a bachelor s degree in kinesiology, was also a four-time academic all-wac honoree and a first-team Academic All-American in Shields Head Coaching Career School Year Record Utah State Totals

6 Sean McInerney is in his second season as Utah State women s head tennis coach after being hired on May 2, Overall, McInerney is just the second-ever head coach for the Aggie women in its 25 years of Division I competition. In his first season at Utah State, McInerney coached the program to a school-record 13 wins while also posting USU s first Mountain West victory with a 5-2 win against Colorado State. He also coached McKenzie Davis to a school-record 17 dual match wins and all- Mountain West honors. Davis ended the season ranked No. 12 in the final Mountain Region singles rankings, while the duo of Davis and and sophomore Kallie Sperry ranked No. 8 in the Mountain Region doubles rankings. Davis received all-mountain West accolades, her second such honor after being named to the all-western Athletic Conference team as a freshman in SEAN MCINERNEY Women s Head Coach Second Year Carthage College, 1998 Utah State had five women s tennis players honored for academic excellence as five student-athletes earned academic all-mountain West honors, while four women s tennis players were named Mountain West Scholar-Athletes. McInerney came to Utah State after spending the previous four years ( ) as the head women s tennis coach at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee earning Horizon League Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2013 as he led the Panthers to back-to-back third-place conference finishes and its best two-year league win total in school history with 10 victories. During the 2013 season at UW-Milwaukee, McInerney led the Panthers to a record and tied the school record for most Division I wins in a single season with 11. UWM also finished third in the Horizon league for the second time in as many years with a 4-3 mark. During the 2012 season, the Panthers finished in third-place in the Horizon League and set the single-season school record with six league wins, as McInerney became the first tennis coach in school history to be named conference coach of the year. In 2012, UWM had individuals set school records for both singles and doubles wins and finished one win shy of the school record for overall team wins. During his time in Milwaukee, McInerney served in a wide variety of tennis-related capacities as he spent the school year as head coach of the men s team at the Milwaukee School of Engineering and was the head coach of the girls team at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School from He was also a tennis professional in the state for 13 years.
