1 Minnesota Future Problem Solving Program Regional Competition During the last week of January, more than 200 teams competed at four different regional competitions vying for 75 state invitation slots. Each school that competed will be well represented at the Minnesota Future Problem Solving Program State Competition and 35th Anniversary on March 21 at the Centennial Middle School in Lino Lakes. The state competition will begin at 7:55 a.m. with an opening presentation, followed by the written competition. The Presentation of Action Plans first round competition, will begin at 1 p.m. The final round will begin at 3:15 p.m. The public is welcome to these two events and are also invited to join us at 6:30 p.m. for our special anniversary program and awards at 7 p.m. Special guests of the day include Marianne Solomon, International Future Problem Solving Program director and Jack Pearson, songwriter, storyteller and one-man-band. Pearson has a surprise for our students and will be leading two "Creative Conversations with Jack. One at 8:45 a.m. and the second one at 2:15 p.m. Both guests will attend the opening, anniversary program and awards ceremony. Thirty junior teams (grades 4-6,) 25 middle teams (grades 7-9,) 15 senior teams (grades 10-12,) and five junior novice teams will compete in the Global Issues Problem Solving component, plus 25 students in the individual competition. Of these 75 teams, six teams (two from each division), will earn an invitation to the International Competition June 11-14, in Ames, Iowa. This year we're excited to announce that nine Community Problem Solving teams and one individual will display their projects and compete for international competition participation. One from each division will be invited to compete internationally. Congratulations to all of our state competitors and best wishes as you prepare for the competition!
