1 39/2/20 UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS ARCHIVES Public Information January 10, 2018 Photography Photographic Subject File, Photographic material in the University Archives is arranged by its source in the appropriate record group, sub-group and record series, with one exception. The exception is a Photographic Subject File, including photographs less than 8.5 x 11 and oversized photographs received as special gifts or individual items. This file is arranged alphabetically according to the following standard subject classification and includes reference prints or negatives of photographs and extra prints of photographs in other record series. The file includes cross reference sheets for significant photographs in other record series where extra prints are not available. A separate series is maintained for glass plates for which no prints are available (RS 39/2/27). Each record series containing photographs has a definite arrangement to permit ready access. This arrangement may be chronological, numerical by negative or alphabetical by subject according to the standard subject classification for photographs.
