CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY (FORMERLY MESA STATE COLLEGE) Designed and created Water, People and Environment a general-education science course to be offered Spring Developed Watershed Science Minor Program serve as faculty advisor for program (2004 present). Redesigned Geographic Information Science and Technology Minor and Certificate Program (2006). Redesigned Geology and Environmental Geology B.S. Major Programs (2005). Designed and created River Dynamics including a weekly lab session. Course is intended for upper-division science majors. Weekly hands-on labs allow students to conduct field data collection and analysis and computer modeling of river dynamics problems. Redesigned curriculum for Introduction to Ground Water an upper-division ground-water course for geology and environmental science majors. Redesigned course to focus more on ground water occurrence and movement, including weekly hands-on lab sessions. Lab includes a semester-long field project at a local wetland where students collect data for analysis. Data collection has continued since 2003 at the same site. Designed and created Basic Hydrology an upper-division course for science majors. Course introduces physical and applied hydrology and includes several in-class problem-solving and computer-based lab activities. Designed and created Cartography for GIS an introductory course for students beginning to study Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Course includes hands-on labs during with students use maps and Global Positioning System (GPS) units to understand the components necessary to create an effective map. Redesigned curriculum for GPS for GIS course to introduce GIS students to field data collection and mapping using GPS. Developed curriculum utilizing new GPS units. Course is comprised of a series of data collection and mapping labs that build through the semester. Students also develop an individual project through the semester that culminates in a presentation and a final map. Developed hydrology segment for existing geology field camp (2004).
