Welcome to DSAA Fundraising The operational costs of our helicopter are 1.7 million per year which equates to over 2,500 per mission. We receive no direct funding from the Government or the National Lottery and rely almost entirely on the generosity of our supporters to ensure we keep flying. Every second counts when a persons life is in danger We operate a Eurocopter EC135 helicopter from our airbase at Henstridge on the Dorset / Somerset border. From there, we can be at any point in the two counties within 19 minutes. More importantly, the helicopter can then take a patient to any one of the Major Trauma Centres in the south west within a further 20 minutes. Since our launch in March 2000 we have attended thousands of incidents. We are tasked by the Ambulance Service through the normal 999 emergency call process and can attend up to eight or nine incidents in a single day during the summer months. A key element of the Air Ambulance is that it can take patients directly to an appropriate specialist hospital that will meet the patients clinical needs. 2 DSAA Fundraising Pack www.dsairambulance.org.uk

Be Safe and Legal DSAA cannot accept liability for your fundraising event. Make sure you have the relevant insurance in place and that you have completed any necessary risk assessments. Under 18? If you are under 18 please make sure that you check with your parents (or guardians) that they are happy for you to organise or take part in a fundraising event. Licences? Are you going to sell alcohol or have live music, dance, sport etc.? You may required a licence. Always check with your local authority! Raffles, Lotteries and Prize Draws There are legal implications when holding any of the above, please see information printed on page 8. Food Hygiene Take care when handling food and follow basic rules for safe preparation, storage, display and cooking. Speak to your local Environmental Health department for further information. Health & Safety/Insurance This is about common sense! Make sure you follow any procedures or guidelines set out by your venue. Don t be afraid to ask if you are unsure how to use equipment or you think there is a potential risk. Complete risk assessments where required. Unfortunately your activity or event will not be covered by the charity s own insurance so please ensure that you have the necessary insurance in place. Your home insurance provider may be able to advise you on this. Money Collections Private Collections These take place on private premises such as supermarkets, pubs, shopping centres, etc. You only need the permission of the owners of the premises concerned and not local authority permission. Public collections These take place in public areas such as in the street or door-to-door. You will require a licence from your local authority for these collections - without it you will be collecting illegally! Follow us on @dsairambulance and Facebook DSAA Fundraising Pack 5

Lottery and Raffle Regulations There are three different types of raffle or lottery: Small Raffle This is the easiest raffle to organise as it does not require registration. Tickets are only sold during your event, not before, and they must not cost more than 1 a ticket. You can spend a maximum of 250 on prizes but all donated prizes can be accepted. You cannot offer a cash prize but gift vouchers are OK. Private Raffle You do not need to register this raffle. Tickets for this can be sold to people living or working in the same premises, or who are members of an organisation. This type of raffle can only be advertised on the premises or on the tickets. Society Raffle A society raffle enables tickets to be sold over a period of time to the general public. It is run by a group of people and tickets must be printed to specified criteria. There are strict rules regarding this sort of raffle and you must ensure you adhere to the legalities of this type of raffle. Running a society raffle on our behalf The burden of policing compliance by individual groups who wish to run a society raffle on our behalf has now reached a point where we have regretfully had to withdraw the use of our licence for this purpose. This step does not mean that raffles cannot be run by groups on behalf of the Charity; it simply means that your group (the society) will need to register with your local authority. You should be aware that all raffles and lotteries are illegal unless they fall into the categories above. Each local authority will have their own rules and procedures. It is your responsibility to contact them directly to ensure that your raffle is fully compliant. 8 DSAA Fundraising Pack www.dsairambulance.org.uk

Employer and Colleague Support There are many ways in which they can get involved too! Gifts in Kind Many companies opt to give their support in the form of Gifts in Kind. This could be the supply of surplus equipment or goods or the provision of services or venues for events and meetings. Charity of the Year By adopting DSAA as their Charity of the Year, your employer will be helping to raise the profile of the charity and reinforce it s CSR policy. Payroll Giving (Give as you Earn) Employees can donate directly to DSAA via their salaries, before tax. Employers can opt to match their employees contributions to demonstrate the company s commitment to the scheme. See the table below for details. Taxpayer Employees GAYE Contribution Amount received by DSAA 20% 12 15 40% 9 15 50% 7.50 15 Employee Fun Days Why not persuade your employers to have DSAA fundraising days where they come to work in fancy dress, have a themed day or hold a bring and buy sale. These events increase motivation and encourage team building. Don t forget to ask if your employer can help with match funding. Sponsorship How about sponsoring a day or a week of Air Ambulance missions? Or sponsoring one of our events? Our Coast to Coast Cycle Challenge attracts 600 participants who could have your logo on their T-shirt providing advertising for you. Follow us on @dsairambulance and Facebook DSAA Fundraising Pack 9

And Finally! Gift Aid The Gift Aid Scheme allows us to reclaim the basic rate tax back from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on any donation from individual supporters who pay UK tax. Basic Rate Tax is currently 20%; therefore DSAA is able to reclaim 25p of tax on every 1 that is given, at no cost to the supporter. To make a donation using Gift Aid, please complete a Gift Aid Form included with this pack. Gift Aid can be claimed on individual and sponsorship donations that are made to Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. To ensure that the Gift Aid claim is valid, meaning we can claim the money back, it s vitally important that all the information asked for on the Gift Aid Declaration Form is provided. There are so many other ways that you can support us. Some are listed below: Make a donation (one off or regular) Join our Flight for Life lottery Become a volunteer Leave a gift in your Will Shop online recycle (textiles, mobile phones, used stamps, foreign coins, ink cartridges) Workplace fundraising For more information on any of these methods visit our website: www.dsairambulance.org.uk or call us on 01823 669604 THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING DSAA We can t wait to hear about your fundraising! 10 DSAA Fundraising Pack www.dsairambulance.org.uk
