LHS Band Boosters What do we do? We support the music programs that are not funded or staffed by FCPS through volunteering and financial support. Why participate? There are approximately 120 students in these programs Yearly Band Booster volunteer hours average between 8,000 10,000 hours What does it cover? Marching Band, Indoor Guard, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, transportation, uniforms, maintenance, insurance, instructor fees, and much more

Marching Band Competitions Why do we do them? Great experience Teamwork Personal achievement

Marching Band Competitions Where do we do them? High school and college football stadiums Hersheypark Stadium in PA Past performances at: Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium at the U.S. Naval Academy M&T Bank Stadium (Ravens Stadium)

Football Games Like all high school bands LHS Marching Band plays stand cheers during the game and performs our show at half time for the crowd at our home games.

Parades Linganore High School Marching Band has marched in the Libertytown parade, the New Market LHS homecoming parade, Mt. Airy Winter Holiday parade. We have marched on Main Street in Disney World, and the NYC St. Patrick's Day parade.

Concerts We do multiple concerts throughout the year for the community.

Indoor Guard Competes at indoor KIDA competitions.

Chaperones, Angels & Roadies When are we needed? Home football games (5 this Fall + any playoffs / championships) Band competitions (6 this fall + TOB competition hosted by Linganore on Sept. 23) Parades (3) Indoor Guard (Jan. Mar.) 1 Truck + 2 trailers + lots of parents = easier & faster for everybody

Chaperones Chaperone requirements for LHS Band & Guard Activities Chaperones must be 18+ (21 or over preferred) There must be two chaperones on each bus at all times Lead chaperone on each bus must have signed medical forms and first aid kit with them at all times, and it must be readily available in the case of emergency Chaperones should provide some source of hydration for students (water coolers, water bottles, and/or Gatorade) Medication may be administered in accordance with policy

Chaperones Chaperone requirements Chaperones should have a cell phone available to make any calls necessary, and lead chaperones on each bus should have contact information for: The band/guard director/instructor Other chaperones on the trip The bus driver A contact number for someone at the destination Chaperones have fun! You might not be on your student s bus, but you are there on their team! As a Chaperone you are in the middle of the action and get the best seats.

Roadies Roadie requirements for LHS Band & Guard Activities Pick things up and put things down. Load/unload instruments and equipment band truck box trailer with parent volunteer towing flat bed trailer with parent volunteer towing Load, unload and place equipment on the field.

Roadies Why roadie? For the students, For yourself (great way to experience what your student is experiencing!), And we like to eat. Do you think we just sit around and wait for them to come back to the truck?

Uniform Angels We are found in the Uniform Room Fit each student for uniforms during band camp, and re-fit students during concert season if needed. Our students tend to grow Mend/repair and clean uniforms Always on-hand for last-minute items (gloves, gauntlets, socks, shoes, etc.) Distribute and inventory uniforms after events Requirements: alphabetical, and numerical knowledge helpful, some light sewing skills.

Common Terms You ll Hear Quota Operating Budget Uniform Fees Spring Trip Deposit Slips

Non-profit Organization We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization per IRS regulations all monies are the property of the corporation Quota is a term we use to refer to funds. It means each student s share of the operating budget Each family is expected to contribute their fair share of the operating expenses of the organization either through fundraising or by monetary contributions to the organization

Operating Budget Expense above and beyond what FCPS provides Competition costs (transportation, registration fees, participation fees) Music, drill writing, show rights, and large instruments Vehicle registration and maintenance band truck, box trailer, flatbed trailer, equipment tow vehicle Insurance - auto and liability

Uniform Fees For the cleaning, repair, and replacement of uniforms Includes Marching Band and Concert Band uniforms Maintenance fee can be paid from quota account Additional uniform pieces (concert shirts, gloves/wristbands, band tee-shirt, and marching shoes) will be charged as needed and must be paid separately outside of quota Must be paid (obligation list)

Spring Trip Spring Trip Budget Transportation Lodging Meals Activity fees (i.e. plays, park passes, museums, etc.) Spring Trip is Optional Each student is responsible for funding their trip experience - the trip is not mandatory and is only available to those students who are academically eligible and have contributed

Money Deposits A Deposit Slip will be sent home with anything that asks you to return money, whether check or cash Return to Black Deposit Box in the Band Room

Money Where does this money come from? FUNDRAI$ING (or a personal check from you)

Fundraising Four Types: Sales Work for quota Combination Sales and Work for quota General Band Fund A Fundraiser Permission form must be completed to participate

Fundraising Sale Packets 3 times per year: Back-to-school Fall Winter/Spring Sell to friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc.

Fundraising Work for quota Linganore Winery: May, June, July, August, October Lions Carnival Dunk Tank: June Basket Bingo: November Open to other ideas!

Fundraising What is needed this year Restaurant Fundraisers (need 1-2 willing to call & organize) Fundraiser Chair Persons (requires about 10 hours) Basket Bingo Assistants (November) Assorted fundraiser help is needed For all the fundraisers on the job training is available. We won t leave anyone in a bind!
