District Kick-off Jeff Eben did a great job speaking to staff during Opening Session. Dr. Sever received several emails from staff members who were motivated and inspired to begin another year. 5.1.2. Dr. Sever read a letter from Mrs. Bonnie Holsonbake and family thanking the staff at Washington School for their professional care and concern for all children. 5.1.3. Congratulations to Mrs. Gini Muradian, teacher at Central Valley Home School, for being selected as a recipient of the 2018 Mini Grants for Teachers Program through Ruiz Foods. The grant project was titled Lepidoptera Metamorphosis and the awarded amount was $1,000. 5.1.4. Enrollment is up 21 students from this time last year. Total enrollment is at 2,235. 5.1.5. Thank you to Mr. Scott Lutz and the secretaries for working hard to help parents complete online re-registration. The re-registration is 98.6% complete. 5.1.6. The District opposes a proposed zoning change to allow for a trucking terminal on Avenue 396 near Lincoln School. The District has written a letter opposing this zone change due to the additional truck traffic this decision would bring to an already congested and narrow street. The land designation and subsequent use are not in the best interest of Kingsburg Elementary students and their safety. 5.1.7. This Friday, August 24 th, there will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 8:30am at the Rafer Johnson Jr. High Track. The community is welcome to attend. 6. Assistant Superintendent s Report 6.1. Mrs. Sembritzki thanked the Board for the additional day that was added to the school calendar. The professional development day went very well. There were nine different sessions facilitated by staff or county office staff. The facilitators did a great job and the information was relevant. There was a teacher survey done following the PD day and it was very positive. 7. Chief Business Official s Report 7.1. The District recently applied for two new electric busses. Each application would provide $405,000 for each bus if granted. These would replace old busses. 7.2. The Washington restrooms are nearing completion. Our employees are finishing the final touches this week. 7.3. The construction portion of the Lincoln library is finished and the furniture will be arriving in the next month. 7.4. The Rafer track is currently being striped for Friday s ribbon cutting ceremony. 8. First Reading: Board Policies/Administrative Regulations/Exhibits 8.1.
