Job Summary Incumbent will provide direct acute primary oral health care services including diagnosis, treatment, referral, and follow-up to eligible Indian and Alaska Native beneficiaries. In conjunction with the Chief Dental Officer, determines the most appropriate range and depth of dental programs ensuring strict compliance with AAAHC standards and federal regulations. Assume Chief Dental Officer job duties as necessary. ESSENTIAL DENTIST JOB FUNCTION ESTABLISHES A COMPASSIONATE ENVIRONMENT BY Providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends and families. PROVIDE DENTAL CARE SERVICES BY Utilizing age appropriate procedures for all age groups; Examining and diagnosing health-related conditions of individuals presenting themselves for acute outpatient care; Determining when patient referral to specialized care or testing is required; Working with administrative and clinical support to follow-up patient care; Educating patients in the nature of their oral health conditions; Recommending therapies as well as the general promotion of oral health and prevention of disease; Maintaining accurate and complete medical record of all patient contacts; Completing oral cancer screening. Education Degree in dental surgery (DDS) or dental medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school required. Additional requirements include: Approved internship; approved residency - Training in a hospital dental internship or residency approved by the Council on Dental Education on the American Dental Association Graduate-level study - Either dental graduate study leading to an advanced degree such as Master of Science, or postgraduate (non-degree) dental school study involving a level of instruction comparable to that provided in a graduate degree program. National Certifying Board - An examining board in a special area of dental practice recognized by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. Board Eligibility - Qualification for examination by a national certifying board as a result of having met the advanced training program requirements for a dental specialty. Licensure Employee must have a permanent full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Alaska, another state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience Recent managerial experience in an outpatient medical facility may be required. Prefer experience with regulatory and accreditation of ambulatory clinic operations.
