Cheswick Christian Academy s wellness plicy first became effective July, 2007. During quarterly staff meetings, the wellness plicy is reviewed and discussed. POLICY TO ENCOURAGE HEALTHY EATING HABITS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY Effective July, 2007 - Revised Octber, 2017 It is the intentin f Cheswick Christian Academy t cmply with all federal standards f the N Child Left Behind law. It shall apply t all students, staff, caches, and vlunteers and encmpasses all fd available t students during the schl day thrugh the fd service prgram, in-schl fundraisers, and classrm parties. The plicy shall be enfrced by administratin, staff, and the fd service directr r crdinatr and shall be reviewed quarterly. 1. PURPOSE AND GOALS INTENT - The intent f this plicy is fr all students f Cheswick Christian Academy t pssess the knwledge and skills necessary t make nutritius fd chices and be encuraged t participate in a variety f physical activities. As rle mdels, educatrs are encuraged t mdel a healthy lifestyle as a valuable part f daily life. The cmprehensive plan t encurage students t establish and maintain lifelng nutritius eating patterns and a healthy lifestyle includes: A fd service prgram that serves appealing chices f nutritius fds and a clean envirnment in which students are given an adequate time t eat. Available healthy a la carte chices. Nutritin and healthy lifestyle educatin t all grades. A physical educatin prgram that includes mderate t vigrus activity. Time in the elementary schl day fr supervised recess. Opprtunities fr students t participate in extracurricular activities. RATIONALE - The link between nutritin and learning is well dcumented. Healthy eating patterns are essential fr students t achieve their full ptential, physical and mental grwth, and lifelng health and well being. Healthy eating patterns are linked t the reduced risk f many chrnic diseases as adults. Regular physical exercise reduces the risk f heart disease, high bld pressure, cln cancer, and diabetes. It is as fllws: If any Fds f Minimal Nutritinal Value shall be ffered by parents, teacher shall decline them by sending them back hme with an explanatin. If it happens repeatedly (3 X in a schl year), cntact either by a letter, phne call, r in persn will be made explaining why the fd is nt a gd chice fr a classrm party. Fundraisers Bake sales during schl hurs shuld nt be allwed. It has been reduced t nly ne: The fun fair in May. In all ther fundraisers, we are cmplying with ur wellness plicy.
