The Business Liaison Association Inc. in conjunction with the Peninsula Arts Educators Association (PAEA) are pleased to announce a bursary for students in the Far North Region interested in pursuing a career in the Visual Arts or Creative Industries at Tertiary Level. The Bursaries will be open to Year 12 students studying Visual Arts, Photography, Film and Television or recognised Creative Studies SAS courses and who wish to pursue a career in one or more of these Visual Arts forms. The Awards are in the form of a plaque and certificate, supported by a bursary of $1000 Art Supply Voucher and three $500 Vouchers respectively. The sponsors of these Awards are Oxlades School Art Supplies, REACH, ISSU and the Peninsula Art Educators Association (PAEA). This year we are very fortunate to have secured additional sponsorship of these awards. James Cook University is offering a $1000 Bursary. This will be offered to a student wishing to study in the field of Creative Industries at James Cook University. Similarly, TAFE is also offering an award for students wishing to pursue further studies in the visual arts. We encourage all schools to nominate suitable applicants for this round of Bursaries and support the initiative to promote and support talented students in the Visual Arts in Far North Queensland. Please read the attached details and conditions carefully and forward the Registration Forms by: MONDAY 15 SEPTEMBER 2014 Please note the following important points: Each school will be invoiced by BLA an application fee of $77 (inc.gst) to cover the administration costs of the Awards. All students who participate will be eligible for a Certificate of Participation The winner and runner ups will be given a separate Certificate acknowledging this. All portfolios must be forwarded to Kylie Lambert at klamb21@eq.edu.au at Mareeba State High School by Friday 8 th October 2014 Announcements to be made via email on the 31 st October 2014 A presentation function will be held on 4 December 2014 in Cairns, and invitations will be forwarded at a later date. We encourage you to support and advertise this opportunity to your students.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES There will be one winning Bursary of $1000 and two runners up Bursaries of $500. In addition there will be one Indigenous Student Art Award Bursary of $500. There will be a $1000 Bursary from James Cook University and an Award from TAFE. The awards are sponsored by: Oxlades School Art Supplies, ISSU, REACH, Peninsula Art Educators Association (PAEA), James Cook University and TAFE. A representative from the sponsors will present the awards at a ceremony to be held in Cairns on Friday 4 th December 2014. Successful applicants are expected to be present at the ceremony to receive their award A panel of three members of the PAEA and representatives from the sponsors will meet to shortlist and decide on the awarding of bursaries, which will be based on: Submission of a portfolio (preferably digital), which demonstrates their achievement in one or more of the Visual Arts areas. Demonstrated evidence of intent to pursue Tertiary Studies (either at University or TAFE) in the field of Visual Arts which has been verified by the Principal and Head of Department and documented on a completed QTAC form. (were available) Verified achievement of a VHA or HA standard in one or more Visual Arts subjects (which may be QSA Authority Visual Art, Authority Registered/SAS or TAFE subjects) Participation by student in a school, regional or state exhibition program. Demonstrated high levels of making and production skills and an articulated interest and understanding of the value of Arts in Education.

APPLICATION CONTENTS Applications should be processed through the Arts Department at the School and must include the components below. Note that Registrations close 15 th September 2014. The Registration Form is to be completed by the student and verified by the Principal and the Head of Department. This form can be filled in on line if you have the latest Adobe Acrobat reader. Otherwise, just print and fill in neatly by hand. A copy of the Q.T.A.C. Form to verify Tertiary/ TAFE preferences where possible. Submission of a portfolio (preferably digital) which demonstrates high levels of making and production skills and an articulated interest and understanding of the value of Arts PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES It is preferable that the portfolio is submitted as a PowerPoint or PDF file and should contain A short artist s statement (max 300wds) which shows the panel o why you make your art, o what it signifies, o how you make your art and o your aspirations in a future Arts career 15 images/slides only of your work o 5 of these should demonstrate process work which clearly demonstrates the originality and creativity of the work o 10 of these should show resolved work and clearly distinguish your own concepts, creativity and high levels of making and production skills.
