April 9, 2017 Dear friends, Our Challenge Jesus did not defend himself against his enemies. Had he returned hate for hate, he would have canceled out everything he taught. He would have turned his back on everything he had accomplished. So he suffered for the sake of love. There is a real sense in which Jesus chose to die rather than to reject his calling. He chose to die at the hands of his enemies rather than defend himself against them by means of violence. The arrest, trial, and execution of Jesus is a drama about how the world treats inclusive love. Such love cuts across all the boundaries we set up to give ourselves advantages over others. Christ s crucifiers were people who fought back to protect their privileged positions. We tend to blame the death of Jesus on the religious bigots and political opportunists of the first century. They were the ones who plotted his arrest, railroaded his conviction, and executed him on the cross. But, if we look closely at the scene, we will see our own faces in the crowd. The story of our Lord s passion compels us to decide where we stand - - with his enemies or with his friends. We see life through different eyes when we climb the hill of Calvary. We see how envy, fear, and hatred can crucify goodness. We see how courage, trust, and hope can triumph over death. Seeing these things clearly, we cannot help but find ourselves somewhere in the crowd that surrounds his cross. Have a blessed Holy Week! Love and prayers, Father Randy Jr High Living Stations of the Cross Our Junior High teens are excited to lead the parish in the living stations of the cross! The school presentation: Tuesday, April 11th at 1:10 pm. The parish presentation: Tuesday, April 11th at 7:00 pm. Come pray with us and support the teens commitment to our parish family Jr High Living Stations of the Cross. The Light is ON For You Opportunities For Reconciliation Individual confession in St. Aloysius Church on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m., April 12 th. The confessors will need to leave the church at 7:30 p.m. Since demand is expected to be high, thanks for limiting your visit with the priest to confession. Our priests would be happy to schedule another time to visit with you for counseling or advice. PARISH STAFF Parish Office: 343-6657 Fr. Randy M. A series of articles by Ken Thevenet to help us better understand the importance of Holy Week in our lives. Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum, the three days from Holy Thursday night through Easter Sunday, are the high point of the entire Church year. At St. Aloysius, these are the days for our most moving and beautiful rituals, the best music and the finest decorations. If you are unable to be with us for some of the Holy Week liturgies, make an extra special effort to somehow set these holy days aside with time for personal and family prayer. On Good Friday, the People of God continue to keep watch in prayer and fasting. We fast and abstain from eating meat today (if possible we continue the fast throughout Holy Saturday) in anticipation of the Eucharistic feast that we will share on Easter. Beginning with Morning Prayer and continuing through the hours of the Lord s passion (12 noon to 3:00 p.m.), the Church will remain open for silent prayer. At 12:00 noon we will walk in the footsteps of Christ, as we pray the Solemn Stations of the Cross. At 3:00 p.m. we will gather quietly to listen to the proclamation of the Lord s Passion as told to us by St. John. After sharing the Word of God, the community prays at length for the needs of the world. Triumphantly, the Holy Cross is raised up for all to see. One by one we come forward to touch, embrace, or kiss the Holy Cross. On Holy Saturday the community continues to quietly keep vigil in fasting and prayer. God rested on the seventh day at the end of creation. On the seventh day Christ rested in the tomb. Today we also rest, preparing for the evening celebration of the Easter Vigil. On Holy Saturday we will not have a 4:30 p.m. mass. Please also note that the Vigil is held at a later time: 8:00 p.m. This is in keeping with the Church s tradition of celebrating the Light Service of the Vigil in total darkness. This is also the time for the Easter Vigil mandated Bishop Muench for all parishes in the diocese. April 9, 2017 3 Palm Sunday of the Passion of our Lord

Your Help is Needed A parishioner has been taking Fr. Robert Marcel, a former pastor at St. Aloysius, to Mass on the weekends, as he is no longer able to drive. This parishioner will be out of town during Holy Week and we are trying to arrange for others to take him to services during this special liturgical time. Fr. Marcel lives near Aloysius at Southside Gardens on Perkins Road. If anyone wants to help in getting Fr. Marcel to Holy Week services, please call 205-3762 for details on how you can help our former pastor continue to participate in the life of our Aloysius community.
