What: 2018 Youth Get-Away Theme: Adventure Into 4-H: Find Your Wild Side When: April 20-22, 2018 Where: Glorieta Camp, Glorieta New Mexico How much: $145/person During the weekend, participants will have a chance to learn about a variety of projects including wildlife, rabbits, Fun with Food, recreation, entomology, leadership and many other activities. Also, youth will participate in a community service project. YGA is scheduled for April 20-22, 2018, at Glorieta Camp, Glorieta, New Mexico. Watch for registration information on the 4-H Website. Youth will be broken down by age group, Novices with Novices, and Juniors with Juniors. The registration fee is $145 for participants and chaperones. The officers look forward to spending the weekend away with youth at YGA! Metzger's Harvest of Genetics Pig and Lamb Sales will be April 7th and May 5th at 1:00 p.m. at the farm in Estancia. JOANN s Partnership Below are the three components of our new partnership with JOANN S Fabrics. Mindy will be sharing emails and Facebook posts with marketing tools you can use to promote these events. We have stores in Las Cruces, Farmington, Santa Fe and Albuquerque where many of our members and other Extension clientele shop. Rewards Card Holders get 15% off their total in-store and online purchases every day. A minimum of 2.5% of every eligible transaction is donated to 4-H. Contact information from those who sign up for the card will be shared with state 4-H programs. Sign up at http://www.joann.com/4-h/ JOANN s Paper Clover Sold Feb 1-28, 2018, in stores nationwide. $1 or $4 Clovers being sold. $4 Clovers include a coupon for $4 off their next purchase. Clovers will not be displayed in-store but include a craft idea for customers to take home. States receive 70% of the funds raised. Funds will be sent back to the state. There are no requirements or restrictions on how they can be used and/or distributed. We are waiting to see how much comes in to finalize plans, but the funds will have a statewide benefit and not be county specific. Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 11am-2pm. Local 4-H programs will partner with their JOANN s store to hand-make Valentine s Day cards. Determine lead county for each event. Lead counties should select a card recipient organization and contact the JOANN store manager to confirm. JOANN stores provide supplies/space 4-H programs should provide: 4-H ers and volunteers and arrange delivery to recipient organization. New Sewing Contest Opportunity Through our partnership with JOANN S Fabrics, 4-H has a new opportunity for our sewers! The contest is open to 14-19 year olds as of Sept 1, 2017 who are currently enrolled in the 4-H program in their state. Entries (photos) can be submitted Feb. 3- Feb 23, 2018. All the fine print including specifics on the awards are in the rules attached to this newsletter. Please share with your members who completed outfits last year for State Conference or County Fairs. Youth will submit photos that will be reviewed by a panel of experts to get five finalists. The finalists will then be uploaded on Instagram for public voting to determine an overall winner. The winner will receive a trip for the winner and one guest (a parent or legal guardian) to Cleveland, Ohio to tour the JOANN Fabric and Crafts Stores headquarters and attend the Kent State Fashion Show the weekend of April 27-29, 2018. Prize trip includes: Roundtrip coach-class airfare for winner and one guest between major airport closest to winner's residence (determined in the sole discretion of Sponsors) and the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport; One standard hotel room (double-occupancy) at a Cleveland area hotel selected by Sponsors in their sole discretion for two (2) nights; Two tickets for winner and guest to tour the JOANN Fabric and Craft Stores headquarters on April 27, 2018,including a photo shoot of the item that was the subject of the winning entry; and Two tickets for winner and guest to attend the Kent State Fashion Show on April 28, 2018.
