BPHS Newspaper Staff Earns 24 Awards from PA School Press Association Thirteen members of Hawk Eye, the BPHS on-line student newspaper, earned 2 Gold, 7 Silver and 15 Bronze Awards from the Pennsylvania School Press Association s Summer Newspaper Contest. BPHS Students Advance to Playoff Round of KDKA-TV s Hometown Hi-Q The BPHS Hometown Hi-Q Team Dan Snyder (Captain), Jarrod Cingel and Hayley Lazzari defeated teams from Venango Catholic and Albert Gallatin High Schools to win their first round of KDKA-TV s Hometown Hi-Q. Their segment will air on Saturday, September 29 at 11 AM. The Team will advance to the Playoffs, which will occur later this school year.

BPHS German Club Presents Awards to Outstanding Students The Bethel Park High School German Club presented two awards to members who did outstanding work in the 2011-2012 school year. Rachel Dodson received the Dietrich Award of Academic Excellence, which is given annually to the school s most outstanding German student in recognition of her academic achievements. Logan Tuite received a Certificate of Achievement for being the Most Outstanding Member of the BPHS Chapter of the Delta Epsilon Phi German National Honor Society.
BPHS Students to Participate in Apprenticeship Programs This School Year Bethel Park High School students successfully applied and were accepted to participate in Apprenticeship Programs sponsored by the Allegheny Intermediate Unit. These students will have the opportunity to work regularly throughout the school year with professionals in the Pittsburgh area to further explore career areas of interest. Samantha Smith to participate in PMEA Honors String Orchestra Bethel Park High School sophomore Samantha Smith successfully auditioned and has been selected to play the violin in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association s Honors Orchestra Concert, which will be held on Sunday, November 11 at North Allegheny High School.
Franklin Students Make Pinwheels for Peace Franklin Elementary School students made and decorated paper pinwheels to express their feelings about what is going on in the world and their lives. The pinwheels were part of a school-wide art installation called Pinwheels for Peace, and set up on September 21 in recognition of World Peace Day.
Washington Student Grows 18 Pound Cabbage for State- Wide Contest Washington Third Grader Zoe Knight grew an 18-pound head of cabbage for the Bonnie Plants Cabbage Growing Contest. If her cabbage is judged to be the largest in Pennsylvania, she will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Bonnie Plants Company. Good luck, Zoe!
Dr. Jansante Receives Meritorious Service Award from PAESP Bethel Park High School Principal Dr. Zeb Jansante was presented with the 2012 Joseph Mamana Meritorious Service Award from the Pennsylvania Association of Elementary and Secondary Principals. This award annually recognizes meritorious service to the association, significant contributions to the professional advancement of Pennsylvania principals, and the personal attributes of dedication and commitment to education. Nominate Deserving BPHS Alumni for the 2012 Great Alumni Hall of Fame Bethel Park High School is accepting nominations for the 2012 BPHS Great Alumni Hall of Fame. This is the first year for this program that is slated to become an annual event. The induction honors Bethel Park alumni who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments either personally or professionally after graduating from Bethel Park High School. If you know alumni who have significantly improved the lives of others, contributed significant volunteer or community service, or achieved significant advancement in their professional field, please consider nominating them for this award. The Class of 2012 inductees will be honored at a high school event during the winter. Please note, this Hall is separate from the Athletic Hall of Fame.
