To be considered an incoming freshman student, the student must have less than 12 college credits completed. All required information MUST be included for your application to be considered complete. You may apply for one or more scholarships with a single application. Please read all the instructions carefully. Enrollment: 9 or more units at SCC in Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 GPA: 2.5 ( High School) Number & Amount of Award: Up to two awards at $500 each Enrollment: 12 or more units at SCC in Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 GPA: 3.0 (High School) Leadership Skills: Participation in high school activities and clubs Community Involvement: Volunteer public or private Employment: Work outside school as well as any jobs held on campus Number & Amount of Award: Up to three awards at $500 each Requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen

SCC Freshman Scholarship Program Application W A L T M A R H O N O R S P R O G R A M S C H O L A R S H I P 3 Please review the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarship description and qualifications carefully. All requirements must be met BEFORE semester funds will be disbursed. DESCRIPTION The SCC Honors Program Scholarships are designed to encourage entering freshmen to participate in the SCC Honors Program. Thanks to a donation from the Waltmar Foundation, SCC will offer up to five $500 scholarships to be used toward enrollment fees, books, lab fees, and other classroom expenses. Once all required criteria has been verified by the SCC Scholarship Program Office & the SCC Honors Program, the student will be awarded $500 disbursement prior to the start of the spring semester. MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS: Entering freshman A minimum high school overall GPA of 3.25 Must become a member of the SCC Honors Program and be enrolled in at least one honors class in fall of 2016 Two (2) letters of recommendation on letterhead (at least one from a school official) addressing any of the following: academic performance, character, extracurricular/leadership activities, or academic goals Must be a full-time SCC student (12 units minimum) Must maintain an overall SCC GPA of 3.0 both semesters of the award ADDITIONAL CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED IN EVALUATING APPLICANTS: GPA above 3.25 Depth and breadth of courses taken in high school Beyond classroom activities: campus, civic, family activities, community service and degree goal Interview may be required Financial need may be considered Complete a minimum of 2 Honors courses in the first year of enrollment. REMEMBER: Semester funds will not be disbursed until all requirements have been met. Funds are not available prior to registration.

Complete the application form, all attachments and personal statement. 2. Check off all scholarships you wish to apply for at the top of the application form. Please review the criteria of each scholarship before you select it on your application. You will only be considered for scholarships that you check off on the application form. You may select more than one scholarship with one application. 3. The following items MUST be attached to your application: a. A copy of your high school transcript which includes your cumulative GPA. b. One to three letters of recommendation from people who know first-hand of your achievements and your qualifications for the scholarship. c. A personal statement that does not exceed 2 pages double-spaced. 4. Return your completed application and all required attachments by the deadline. Attach an additional sheet if necessary. Include your name and SCC student I.D. number in the upper right hand corner. Personal statements should not be more than two double-spaced, typed pages. Include any or all of the following topics: 1) Your interest in your intended major, how your interest developed and how it relates to your educational and career goals; 2) Information about your family and work experience that contributed to your personal growth and/or education and career goal; 3) Information about your school activities and involvement in community service that contributed to your personal growth and/or education and career goals: 4) Why it is important for you to receive this scholarship? RECOMMENDATION LETTERS: One to three letters of recommendation must be included with your application. These letters should be from people who know you first-hand, or your achievements and your qualifications for the scholarship. For example: an academic recommendation could come from a teacher; a leadership recommendation could come from a club advisor or community leader; and/or a general recommendation could from a supervisor at work or a mentor. CERTIFICATION: I am enrolled at Santiago Canyon College for Fall 2016 semester, and intend to enroll at SCC for Spring 2017. I understand that if selected as a recipient, I will need to meet all requirements listed in the scholarship criteria for both the fall and spring semesters.
