Practicum Information Guide Helping develop the next wave of sport and recreation professionals

Things to consider... Before arranging with one of the institutions for a student to come and work with your association, there are a number of areas that you should consider. By considering these items, you will make the experience a positive one for both your association and the student. Does the Association have a job description with meaningful objectives for the student Does the Association have space for the student to work? Will the student be required to drive for the position? Is parking available? Is the Association required to obtain more/alternate insurance coverage? Are there any fees/honorariums involved with the post secondary institution? What are the expectations of the Association? What are the expectations of the post secondary institution? Does the current staff have time to train/work with the student? How will overtime be handled (weekend/evening work)? Do the timelines of the placement fit with the Association s job requirements? This document was prepared by the Alberta Sport, Recreation, Parks and Wildlife Foundation. The Foundation has made every attempt to ensure the accuracy of the information herein, however we assume no responsibility for program or contact changes by the individual institutions April 2010
