The Extracorporeal Life Support Symposium: Patient Selection and Management, Circuit Management and Transport September 28, 2018 Biomedical Research Tower Auditorium 460 W. 12th Ave Columbus, OH 43210 Sponsored by: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, in cooperation with The Ohio State University Heart and Vascular Center with the divisions of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiovascular Medicine

The Extracorporeal Life Support Symposium: Patient Selection and Management, Circuit Management and Transport TARGET AUDIENCE Pulmonologists, Cardiologists, Cardiac Surgeons, General Surgeons, Anesthesiologists, Emergency Medicine physicians, Perfusionists, Intensivists, Nurses and Respiratory Therapists PURPOSE The use of ECLS (extracorporeal life support) has grown rapidly in the U.S. in recent years. The Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center has extensive experience in this exciting field for the last 10 years. The purpose of this symposium is to provide an educational framework and to offer support for clinicians and hospitals interested in developing or furthering a community-based ECLS program. There will also be information for centers that are interested in having the ability to place patients on ECLS and transfer them to an experienced ECLS program for management. OBJECTIVES At the end of the symposium, attendees will have the ability to: 1. Identify patient criteria for ECLS candidates 2. Differentiate between veno-arterial ECLS and veno-venous ECLS 3. Appropriately determine which type of ECLS to utilize for the patient and indications for ECPR 4. Describe how to cannulate patients so as to preclude the need for cannula revision 5. Initiate ECLS 6. Perform the referral process 7. Review safe transportation of the ECLS patient
