When is room selection? Room selection takes place from March 31 to April 3. The schedule is below: Monday, March 31 Westmoreland Hall selection. Only students who were selected during the Westmoreland Hall lottery process may participate in selection today. Tuesday, April 1 Academic Village & OACS selection. Only students who were accepted into the Academic Village or OACS may participate in selection today. Wednesday, April 2 Rising Seniors* & Juniors*. Any rising seniors or juniors who have not selected into Westmoreland Hall or the Village may participate today. Thursday, April 3 Rising Sophomores*. Any rising sophomores who have not already selected into Westmoreland or the Village may participate today. *Your class status for the fall 2014, which is based on the term you entered the University, determines when you select. On each of the above days, students will be able to select during a morning session (fill-all time period) or an afternoon period (open selection time). The times for selection each day are different for each class status. They are listed below: Rising Seniors Fill-All Times: 9:30 a.m. to Noon Open Selection: 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Rising Juniors Fill-All Times: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Open Selection: 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Rising Sophomores Fill-All Times: 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Open Selection: 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. What does fill-all mean? As described above, students will have the opportunity to participate in room selection during a morning time period on their respective day if they can fill all the spaces in their respective room or apartment; thus, the term fill-all. The fill-all feature is designed to give students who wish to live together the opportunity to do so. During the fill-all time period, students must be able to fill all of the open spaces in a room/apartment if they wish to select it. For example, if students wished to select a room in College Hall during the fill-all time period, they must have a group of three students (since College Hall rooms have three beds). Or, if students wished to select an apartment in the Academic Village, they must have a group of four students to fill the entire apartment. Please note: If selecting into Robertshaw Hall during the fill-all time period, you must fill an entire suite (4 bed spaces in two connecting rooms). In addition, apartments in the University Court will be treated as fourperson apartments for the academic year.* If you try to select a room with fewer students than spaces during this time, the system will prevent you from proceeding. During open selection, students can place as few students into a room as they desire. If I have roommates, do all of us have to select? No. For every group of roommates, only one student needs to do the selection online. The student that will select your room/apartment will place each student into a specific bedroom and assign each student a meal plan. It is in a group s best interest to have the student able to select earliest complete the selection process. What information do I need from my roommates for room selection? Prior to Room Selection, the person doing the selection online should obtain the following information from each roommate: Roommate s username. This is the Pitt email address without the @pitt.edu. (Example abc89) Roommate s PeopleSoft #: This is the 7-digit number assigned to students by the University. IT IS NOT THE NUMBER ON THE ID CARD! Roommate s meal plan choice. Bedroom assignments. If selecting into the Village or Westmoreland Hall, students will select bedrooms for each roommate. Bedspaces ending with the letter a are bedroom 1; b = 2; etc. In addition, at the University Court, students who select bed space a and b will be together in a bedroom. Those who select c and d will be in the opposite bedroom. Students do not need to share the password to their student email account!
If I m a Senior, can I choose a Junior or Sophomore as a Roommate? Yes. Students can select any student that is eligible for room selection. Please note that incoming freshman and transfer students are not eligible to participate in room selection; therefore, you cannot select them as roommates. Please note that students who applied late (after March 10 th ) are not eligible for room selection. Can I select an entire suite in Robertshaw Hall for me and my roommates? Yes! Robertshaw Hall rooms are numbered like so: 114/16. This would represent rooms 114 and 116, which are connected to one another with a bathroom in between. Please note that students placed in spaces ending with A or B will be in the first listed room and students placed into spaces ending with C or D are placed into the second listed room. For example, a student placed into 114/16a would be placed into room 114. A student placed into 114/16c would be placed into room 116. How can I select an apartment in Westmoreland Hall? Only those students whose names were selected during the lottery will be able to place themselves into Westmoreland Hall. Students who were randomly selected to live in Westmoreland Hall will participate in Room Selection on Monday, March 31. If your name was selected during the lottery, you and the roommates you requested are guaranteed spaces in Westmoreland. When placing yourself into a Westmoreland apartment, you must place yourself with the roommates you requested during the Westmoreland lottery. Students who select bedspaces a and b will be in an assigned bedroom, while those who select bedspaces c and d will be in a separate assigned bedroom. How can I select into the Academic Village or OACS? Only those students who are accepted into the Academic Village or OACS may select into either of these communities. The list of students who have been accepted into the Village or OACS will be posted by Wednesday, March 26. This list will be posted in Village Hall, Chambers Hall 213, and in the Lyceum.
