If you are interested in holding a Post Officer position you need to get your name down on the ballot now! The rest of you should come down and show your support and vote. To all My Legion Brothers and Sisters I would like to add that during the last two years our Post has come out of the dark and into the light. We have exceeded our membership goals, our Post projects such as the Veterans Family Appreciation BBQ, Veterans Holliday Food Drive and many others have supported hundreds of needy Veterans and their families. Due to many successful projects we have become noticed and respected in our community. Our nominating committee has come up with a list of nominees and positions that they feel will continue to do the Post PROUD. Most of the nominees are currently holding officer positions but will step up to positions of more authority. Continued on page 2 Post Meeting & Elections Saturday March 9th NOON Luncheon Following the Elections Corned Beef and Cabbage $5 minimum charge for the lunch Post Open Mondays & Fridays Noon 3 Legion members attended both the Gold and the Sportsman Shows' held at the Douglas County Fair Grounds this Month. The legionnaires that attended the Membership booth put in some long hours but all said they had a great time. We talked with hundreds of people during each day of the events, signing up 9 new members to our post. The raffle for the Henry Rifle was a great success, during the last day of the Sportsman Show we had a young girl from the crowd pick the winning Continued on page 3 Legion Booth at the Sportsman Show DC Fairgrounds

Page 2 Continued from page one VOTE FOR ONE I have worked with these people and can honestly say that they have been a major reason in our Posts' success. Legionaries, this is not a (CLICK), this is a group that has dedicated their own time to bring American Legion values to our community, and have fun doing it. Commander Corky Smith 1 st Vice-Commander Rick Sciapiti 2 nd Vice-Commander Art Perry Terry Pilson Finance Officer Dirk Kruysman Chaplain Ted Blann Service Officer Mike Null Sgt at Arms: Steve Bergadine Historian Kirk Conner By Corky Smith What turned out to be a funny on the Assault Weapon controversy, turned out to be a major success at the Sportsman Show. It started during one of our Friday afternoon get together at the Post. You know when a bunch of old and middle aged veterans get together ( Yes, we do have middle aged vets now) anything can happen. Dale (Rudolph) Nelson mentioned something about an Assault Rock, make it prehistoric sounding. At first the guys laughed at it, but I ran with it. Dale and Larry obtained the rocks, Steve painted them and F3B made the poster, and stickers. Putting them all together to become, The Neanderthal Assault Rock, the Worlds' First Assault Weapon. I can honestly say, every person that walked by our booth laughed, said it was a great idea, along with selling lots. If you are interested in seeing or purchasing one of these prehistoric beauties, come down to the Post on Mon or Fri from noon to 3pm. Dale Nelson is holding one of our Assault Rocks and the official Assault Rock Certificate of authenticity.

Page 3 Send us your current email address Earle B Stewart American Legion Post 16 uses a Non-Profit Organization US Postal Service Permit to mail the Newsletters at a reduced bulk rate. The USPS requires that we mail at least 200 pieces of mail at a single time to receive the bulk rate. We are currently mailing an estimated 446 Newsletters to our members at a substantial cost of printing the 6 page newsletter. Costs are estimated at $170.00 a month, over $2000.00 annually, plus the cost of the mailing labels and the ink for the printer. The cost of the bulk mailing is determined by the number of items and the weight. Last month our postal charges were above $60.00, or over $700.00 for the year. The annual USPS Non- Profit fee is another $190.00. The Newsletter re-introduced last year has been a huge success in not only reminding the members about the monthly meetings, but the Newsletter allows the Post members to read and see what events are taking place at the Post and around our region. With a nearly $3,000.00 dollar annual expense for providing a Newsletter, the leadership has estimated that if we can get 200 Post members ( or about half of membership) to give us their emails, we could save at least $1,500.00 in annual expenses. Think of it! You would get the Full Color Version of the Newsletter, have the calendar available at your fingertips, and you could share the Newsletter with other Veterans and friends. Please be a part of this and Help Save the Post on Newsletter Expenses Sit down right now at your computer, and Send your request to: EarleBStewartPost16@msn.com Please include your First and Last Name Be sure to add the Newsletter email address to your address book and avoid it being kicked to junk. Your email will be used for exclusively by the American Legion for mailing. For more information call or come by the Post on Monday s or Friday s Noon 3. Thank You, The Coffee Pot is always on! Rick Sciapiti 1st Vice Commander Continued From page 1 ticket belonging to Vicki Orth from Canyonville. So what did we do during the past two weekends? We attended two shows, signing up 9 new members, talking to hundreds of veterans, informing hundreds and hundreds of people the purpose of the American Legion, making a financial profit for the operation of the Post, and having fun doing it. I want to thank all the members that put in their own time to help with these events. Raffle Winner Vicki Orth (right) is seen receiving the Henry Golden Boy Rifle from Commander Terry Pilson
