Post 80 Elected Officers for 2018 2019 Term: Commander Gary Nelson 1 st Vice Daryl Bass 2 nd Vice Mike Turco Chaplain Dave Nigh Finance Skip Barnett Sargent-at-Arms Gary Brunelle Executive Committee: Dan Brooks and Logan Tindall Chaplain s Corner Greetings Fellow Veterans, I hope the Summer is going well for you. This month we celebrate "Freedom". So I ask you the question, are you free? You may think that is a stupid question, but it is a legitimate one. We all know that freedom is not free, there is a high cost to obtain and preserve it. True freedom is found only in the Lord Jesus Christ, He died to set us free from the bondage of sin and spiritual death. "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"," Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" (John 8: 32 &36). True freedom is a gift from God, that is given to those who believe in His Son. " For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).The question remains, are you free? Trust in Him for freedom. God Bless You. Page 5 Website: AmericanLegionPost80fl.org American Legion Post 80 Unit 80 Auxiliary Chaplain s Report A Prayer for Fourth of July Source: Manual of Ceremonials of The American Legion Auxiliary God, we remember the courage and determination of our founding fathers. We remember the brave patriotic men and women who gave so much for us. We thank them that we are a free nation and a free people. It is through them that we carry forward the ideals of Justice, Freedom and Democracy. Lord, we pray for our elected officials; for sound government and just laws. Lord, make us ever proud to be Americans. We ask that You would rekindle the flame of compassion within us so that we might show real care for our fellow man. Teach us to be sensitive to the heeds of others. Grant that as Americans and as Legion Family, we may continue to help our veterans and those in need. Be with us and guide us, we pray. Amen Gail Brunelle Chaplain As of 06/20/2018 We have had 276 members renew/new for the 2017-2018 year, and we are at 93%. We are short 20 more renewals/new members this year to reach 100%. Our 2019 new cards will be here after Department Convention. I will be taking renewals after July 9 th. With that said, at our December 7 th meeting it was unanimously voted to raise our dues to $30.00 since National and Department are raising our dues to them. This change was also put in our Constitution and By-Laws/Standing rules and approved by Department in February. Also, we cannot accept new members(auxiliary) for 2019 until after National Convention. Sept 3 rd is when I can start accepting new members for 2019. Anyone that wants to join now, would be for the 2018 year, and then would have to renew for 2019 by December 31 st. If you are being installed as a Unit Officer for the 2018-2019 year, you must have your 2019 dues paid prior to our July 14 th Installation of Officers. Charlotte Bass Unit 80 Membership Chairman
