Emerging Artists Unleashed:2018 Prospectus Overview The ASA is thrilled to announce Emerging Artists Unleashed:2018 Student Exhibition call for submissions. Coinciding with our post-secondary scholarship awards, the ASA is proud to provide resources, and an artistic platform, to help artists pursuing a career in the arts gain exhibition experience. The Society invites all full-time students enrolled in a Fine Arts program at a post-secondary institution within Alberta to submit artwork to this exhibition. This show is open-themed and will be exhibited during Walterdale Playhouse s presentation of Othello by William Shakespeare. Walterdale Playhouse 10322 83 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB Date: February 6 17, 2018 University of Calgary - Little Gallery Calgary, AB Date: March 19 March 23, 2018 Important Dates: Deadline for submissions: December 15, 2016 Notification of results for Exhibit: January 13th, 2016 Accepted artists residing in or near the Calgary area can deliver their work to the ASA office prior to January 28 th for transport to the Walterdale Playhouse: Accepted artists residing in or near the Edmonton area will deliver their artwork to Walterdale Playhouse the day of installation: February 6, 2018. Specific time to be announced. Installation Date: February 6 th, 2018 Opening Reception: February 6 th at 7:00PM with a free preview of the play starting at 8:00PM ** Accepted artists are expected to volunteer to assist with the hanging of the show, artwork wrapping, opening reception, and/or transportation of the artwork. 1 P a g e

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS 1. Eligibility: a) Enrolled as a full-time student in a Fine Arts program at a post-secondary institution within Alberta. Must be an Alberta resident. 2. Exhibition Information: a) Artwork must be original, and have not been exhibited previously in an ASA held exhibition. b) Five pieces of artwork can be submitted per artist. If applying for the scholarship as well, the images must be the same. c) The creative framework of this exhibition is up to the interpretation of the artist while adhering to the Overview in this Prospectus. d) Notification of the results of the jury will be by email. e) Incomplete submissions will not move to jurying phase. f) Jury results are final; artists will not receive feedback or comments from the jury. g) Due to venue restrictions, only 2D small scale artwork can be exhibited on the walls at the Walterdale Playhouse. If your artwork is an installation, mixed media, transmedia, performance, 3D, or large scale, we will require a high resolution photograph to exhibit the piece. Please Note: These restrictions do not apply to the Little Gallery but you will be required to assist in installing your work if it is not 2D or weighs more than 15 lbs. 3. General Submission Requirements: a) Each submission must contain the following: i. Completed and signed application form. ii. A 200 - word artist statement related to the body of work submitted referring to relevant themes, techniques, how the piece reflects who you are as an artist, etc. iii. Updated artist CV. iv. An up-to-date unofficial transcript as proof of enrollment. If you have recently transferred into a 4- year program or into a new University, we ask for a copy of your transcript from your previous institution as well. 4. Image Requirements: Entries can be submitted either through email, online or as digital files burned to a CD. Entries must conform to the guidelines as follows: a) Image files submitted on a CD must include a hard copy of signed application form. b) Each image file must be in JPEG format, 300 dpi not exceeding 5 inches in any direction or 3 MB in size. c) Please ensure that all image files are correctly oriented. d) Image files must be clear of frames, walls, borders or any other backgrounds. Images should be of the artwork only; no date stamps, no watermarks, no copyright symbols, or any other elements should be present that will obstruct the visual field. e) If submitting via email, a scanned or filled out entry form must be included in the email as a word or PDF document labeled as: LastName_FirstName_Submission.doc or.pdf. f) Artist and artwork information copied and pasted into body of email will not be accepted. g) Artists must include an artwork statement that does not exceed 200 words and labeled as: LastName_FirstName_Statement.doc or.pdf. h) Image files should be appropriately labeled: LastName_FirstName_Title.jpg. i) One extra detail image file can be presented for 2-D artwork and labeled: LastName_FirstName_Title_Detail.jpeg. j) Diptychs and triptychs must be submitted in one file showing how the pieces work together and individually as image files labeled: LastName_FirstName_Title_A.jpeg, B.jpeg and/or C.jpeg k) Label the CD with your name, exhibit you are entering and telephone number. 2 P a g e

l) All submission elements must be received at the same time; you may not email and mail parts of the submission at separate times. IF ACCEPTED 5. Accepted Artists: a) No early withdrawals of artwork are permitted during the exhibition. It is expected that the work juried and submitted by the artist to the exhibit will be hung in gallery for the entire duration of the exhibition. b) No substitutions will be accepted once a work of art has been juried in. This includes changes in the image, title, dimensions, etc. c) ASA reserves the right not to display artwork that differs significantly from the accepted submitted images or does not present professionally. d) Accepted artist(s) are required to volunteer and assist with the opening reception and hanging of the show; ASA will provide support for both the hanging and opening reception. 6. Specifications: a) Work accepted into the exhibit must be suitable for hanging with the proper hardware attached; a wire, and D-rings properly attached to the frame. If your piece is a textile or requires a different method of hanging, you are required to provide the proper hardware and instructions. b) No sawtooth or wall buddies permitted. c) Unframed work is acceptable IF it is submitted with hanging instructions, special hardware, etc. d) Any work exceeding 18x24'' that would be normally framed in glass must be framed in plexiglass instead. Long pieces exceeding 24'' should have plexiglass even if the height is less than 18''. e) Please Note: ASA is not responsible for any potential damages to framed plexiglass that occur during transportation or throughout the duration of this exhibition. 7. Liability and Insurance a) Artists are encouraged to seek insurance coverage for their artwork during transportation and for the duration of the exhibit. b) While the ASA takes every effort to ensure careful handling, and hanging, the ASA is not responsible for any damages to artwork (including but not limited to theft, vandalism, fire, obstruction or scratches in artwork's frame) or loss of artwork entered into the exhibition. c) By submitting their artwork to this exhibition, artists are acknowledging and agreeing that ASA is not responsible for reimbursement or replacement of lost, stolen or damaged artwork submitted to the exhibition. 8. Transportation Protocol a) ASA is not responsible for any fees or insurance coverage involving the transportation of artwork to and from the drop off and pick up locations. b) Artists residing in and near Calgary can deliver to the Calgary office on the date specified in this call. ASA will arrange for the artwork to be transported to Walterdale. Artists residing closer to the Edmonton area will deliver their artwork to the theatre on the date and time of the hanging. We encourage selected artists to work together as this exhibit is a group exhibit and provides practical and professional experience in the set-up of public exhibitions. c) Artists are responsible for following the packaging and shipping guidelines of their chosen method of transportation; this includes appropriately packaging their work, labelling their piece and carrying out any further actions that ensure safe delivery of artwork (i.e. fragile stickers, if necessary). d) Accepted artists will need to enclose prepaid shipping and instructions for return of the artwork if using mail or courier services. e) It is not ASA s responsibility to organize the return of accepted artwork beyond repackaging and 3 P a g e

Accepted Artists Checklist: Have you included hardware, or prepared, your artwork with the proper hanging material? This means a wire and d-rings properly attached to the frame. Have you arranged transportation for your artwork to be delivered prior or on the date of artwork collection? Have you enclosed prepaid shipping instructions for return of the artwork if you are using mail or courier services?
