AMD CFT Priority Efforts M-SHORAD WHAT: Maneuver - Short Range Air Defense (M-SHORAD) WHY: Defend maneuvering forces against UAS, fixed and rotary wing threats. HOW: The Army strategy to deliver initial capability of 4 battalions (144 systems) by FY22 with existing mix of guns, missiles, rockets, and onboard sensor -- integrated on a Stryker A1 platform. Follow on battalions will be equipped with enhanced effectors such as a laser or improved missile. IFPC WHAT: Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) WHY: Defend fixed and semi-fixed assets against sub-sonic cruise missiles and UAS threats with a residual capability against fixed and rotary wing aircraft. HOW: Provide an interim gap filler capability (requires Congressional funding) with existing systems while simultaneously developing enduring capability (POR Funds). LTAMDS WHAT: Lower-Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor (LTAMDS) WHY: Deliver sensor capability to counter advanced threats and take full advantage of MSE missile capability. LTAMD Sensor HOW: The new LTAMDS radar will replace the current Patriot radar and by design will be integrated into the Army Integrated AMD architecture to provide significant improvement over the current radar while enabling incremental growth over time. AMD PORTFOLIO S&T ASSESSMENT WHAT: AMD Portfolio Science & Technology Assessment WHY: Deliver next generation capabilities to be more effective and efficient in mitigating the threat HOW: Align S&T efforts to AMD priorities; ensure good partnering between labs, emphasize need for industry participation on projects, & transition technologies to programs 4
