27 18 October 2018 中華電力有限公司 CLP Power Hong Kong Limited Enterprising Green Power Initiatives are Celebrated at CLP Smart Energy Ceremony CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today held a prize presentation ceremony to honour the winners of its first Smart Energy programme, recognising the performance of commercial and industrial customers in energy management and the use of renewable energy and smart technology. The awards were divided into four categories: Energy Saving, Peak Demand Management, Renewable Energy, and Smart Energy. There were more than 240 entries from public services and utility companies, retail chain stores, the catering industry, property management companies, small and medium enterprises, nongovernment organisations (NGOs), and schools. Judges chose 34 winning businesses and organisations for their innovative environmental awareness practices and outstanding quantitative energy saving performance. (Please refer to appendix for full list of winners.) Winning entrants for the Renewable Energy Achievement category included Vitasoy International Holdings Limited that uses a truck with solar panels installed on its roof, providing air-conditioning to the cabin. The innovation allows the driver to enjoy a comfortable cabin environment without leaving the truck s engine running. Lee Woo Sing College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong was also recognised for installing a high-efficiency solar energy system to power its student hostel and establishing a rewards scheme to encourage students to save energy. The energy consumption of the hostel rooms showed a cumulative decrease of more than 20% in energy use as a result of the students changes in behaviour. As well as honouring the achievements of the winning entries, CLP Power gave them professional advice and technical support to ensure the best outcomes and provided energy management and monitoring. Business entrants showed great ingenuity and determination in their energy saving efforts. Link Asset Management Limited is one of the organisation who achieved the best performance in the Energy Saving Achievement category by reducing its electricity consumption for shopping arcades over the course of a year. The winners in the Peak Demand Management Achievement category, meanwhile, successfully reduced their energy use at peak demand hours. Hong Kong Housing Authority that performed best in the Renewable Energy Achievement category installed several renewable energy systems with a capacity of nearly 230 kw connected to CLP Power s 1
grid to supply power to the communal areas of public rental housing and save an estimated 160 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions over the course of a year. Speaking at the awards presentation ceremony today, CLP Power Managing Director Mr T K Chiang said, Hong Kong s commercial and industrial sector accounts for 70% of total power consumption. We always encourage our business customers to pool their efforts to achieve greater energy efficiency by adopting innovative solutions, renewable energy, and smart technology in their daily operations to address the challenges arising from climate change. CLP Power has been working tirelessly in support of the Government's climate policy and has launched a raft of initiatives to promote energy conservation and the development of renewable energy. Guest of honour Secretary for the Environment Mr Wong Kam Sing said he was glad to see various sectors in the society actively promoting smart energy management which help combat climate change and improve local air quality, as well as contributing towards Hong Kong s 2030 carbon intensity reduction target. Representatives from the Government, chambers of commerce, green groups, academic and professional bodies were invited by CLP Power to act as the programme s judges.
