Wednesday, October 18, 2017 General Thoracic Surgery Database (concurrent session) This session will focus on the General Thoracic Surgery Database (GTSD) and examine how to improve data collection and advance participant database coding skills in the GTSD. The session will use a casebased learning format. Objectives: Upon completion of the GTSD session, participants will be able to: Explain the staging, diagnoses, surgical procedures, and complication abstraction and coding for lung and esophageal cancer cases; Describe star ratings for lobectomy; Summarize how to use the Data Quality Report to improve data quality and completeness; and Identify the data components of the risk model. Define the anatomy and physiology in DORV; Discuss and code combined aortic arch anomalies; and Explain the use of the Data Quality Report (DQR). 11:00 a.m. Session Adjourns 11:00 a.m. Lunch Provided Thursday Afternoon, October 19, 2017 Adult Cardiac Surgery Database Thursday afternoon and Friday will focus solely on the Adult Cardiac Surgery Database (ACSD) and examine how to improve data collection and advance participants database coding skills in the upgraded version 2.9 of the ACSD that became effective July 1, 2017. The sessions will provide information about changes in the scope of cardiothoracic surgery practice. Objectives: Upon completion of the ACSD sessions, participants will be able to: Describe conditions of the aorta and new aorta data collection elements; Define classification of COPD, heart failure, and liver disease; Identify the relationship between the risk model and outcomes; Describe the Maze procedure and guidelines for treatment of atrial fibrillation; Summarize changes in version 2.9 of the ACSD; and Discuss abstraction of the anesthesia section of the data collection form (DCF).
