The Real Question Why should I get up at 5am on a Saturday morning Drive two hours each way for another meeting (as if I don t already have enough of these) Drag my kids to yet another activity (that they already have too many of) And probably get talked into doing more Volunteer work

California 4-H has four geographic Sections Not the same as Regions No staff at Sectional level, more directly connected with State Office County Councils elect /select representatives to send to Sectional Focused on volunteers and youth events, conferences, field days, Fashion Review, Presentation Day Stepping Stone to State events
North Section Del Norte, Siskiyou, Modoc, Humboldt, Trinity, Shasta, Lassen, Tehama, Plumas, Mendocino, Glenn, Butte, Yuba, Sierra, Lake, Colusa, Sutter, Nevada, Placer, Mono, Inyo
North Central Section Sonoma, Napa, Yolo, Sacramento, Solano, El Dorado, Amador, Alpine, Marin, Contra Costa, San Joaquin, Calaveras, San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara

Youth Council What do Youth do at The Sectional Level? They decide what they want to do elections, community service Participate on the full council youth can hold office! Reps to State Council Representatives to the Executive Board and full Council Meet other 4-H rs from across the state Competitions Sectional Presentation Day, Fashion Review, Conferences CAL (Creating A Leader), Citizenship, assist with State Field Day Anything that they feel will make a difference!
Available to All levels of youth from our counties High Achievers - All Stars, Presidents, Emerald Stars Executive Councils - Officer positions that have progression to higher levels Highly active members - Committee members etc that aren t ready for or don t really want to be officers Highly active participators / supporters - Want to have fun, enjoy the process, like meeting new people and being involved Provides the next level of opportunities Keep the older members engaged Youth Opportunities To make the best better Younger members can see opportunities at a higher level Provides Positions that may not be available at club / county level
Benefits for our Clubs and Counties Fosters communication and information sharing within the section Lots of Ideas, Resources, HELP and Advice Club Members Can provide the next level of inspiration or motivation A step before competing / participating at State level especially younger members and members that may be not sure they want to take the next step Authentic Roles not token positions or made up jobs Helps us retain older members
Benefits our Adult Volunteers Learn what's going on at Sectional and State level Opportunities, changes, events get the big picture Opportunity to participate in discussions and decisions about what happens in 4-H Committees Curriculum, Policy, I&R, Camping, etc Build relationships with state staff, other volunteer leaders, and share what's important to each other Opportunity to be involved in bigger picture projects Opportunity to (re)learn new skills, Leader Development Being a Club Leader means letting the youth run the club, the meeting, the activity, etc What you learn can be used anywhere not just in 4-H! Opportunity to get re-energized about 4-H
Sectional meets 4 times a year (Usually 3rd Saturday) September, November, February, May See Yahoo calendar for specific dates and locations Location rotates between counties allows more participation State Council meets twice a year October - UC Davis, April So Cal (Ontario) Youth and Adult Reps attend and report back to sectional Committees, WRLF, Chaperone sectional conferences Depends on your interests, and how active the youth are in your county! Commitment? Time? More leader involvement means a more dynamic and effective North Central Section
Why your involvement with Sectional Council is important Keeps new blood moving into all levels of 4-H Youth and Adult need opportunities to grow Not just another job or meeting Allows you to be more effectively involved with 4-H Helps you make better choices about what you spend your time on Helps you step back and get a different perspective of your club and county activities If your youth are involved you ll be driving here anyway! After their long weeks with school and 4-H projects they will probably sleep (or do a lot of bonding while carpooling!) You ll learn where all the Starbucks are located!
