Legal Notice No. REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAG O THE DEFENCE ACT, CHAP. 14:01 REGULATION S Made by the Minister of National Security under section 244 of th e Defence Act THE DEFENCE (RATES OF PAY AND ALLOWANCES ) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 201 6 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Defence (Rates of Pay and Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations, 2016. Citatio n 2. In these Regulations, the Regulations, means the Interpretatio n Defence (Rates of Pay and Allowances) Regulations, 1989. I N No. 84 of 198 9 3 The Regulations are amended in regulation 9 (a) by deleting subregulation (3 )(a ) (b) in paragraph (b). by deleting the word and" : (c) in subregulation (3). by inserting afte r paragraph (c) the following paragraphs : "(d) Commanding Officer of th e Air Guard: and (e) Commanding Officer of th e Trinidad and Tobag o Defence Force Reserves." : Regulation 9 amended (d) in subregulation (4), by deleting the «word s at the same rates that are applicable t o officers in the Public Service " and substituting the words at the rate set out i n Part II of the Schedule : and (e) by revoking subregulation 0).

Regulation 10 amended 4. The Regulations are amended in regulation 10, by deleting the words "at the same rates as are applicable to officers i n the Public Service whose posts are scheduled under the Travellin g Regulations" and substituting the words "at the rate set out i n Part II of the Schedule,". Regulation 17 amended 5. The Regulations are amended in regulation 17 (a) by revoking subregulation (I) and substituting the following subregulation : "(1) An officer, other rank, or a cadet, who is selected to attend an overseas course, at any time durin g the period 1 't October to 31st May in the Northern Hemisphere or during the corresponding period i n the Southern Hemisphere, i s entitled to a warm clothing allowance at the rate set out in Part II of the Schedule."; and (b) in subregulation (4), by deleting the word s "in keeping with the Ministry of Financ e Circular No. 3 of 1999" and substituting th e words at the rate set out in Part II of th e Schedule.'. Regulatio n amende d 6. the Regulations are amended in regulation 25. by deleting the words "in keeping with the N/linistry of Financ e Circular No. 3 of 1999 and the Comptroller of Accounts Circula r :Memorandum No. 2 of 1999" and substituting the words at the rate set out in Part I I of' the Schedule'. New regulation s 26A. 26B, 26C, and 26 D inserted 7. The Regulations are amended by inserting afte r regulation 26, the following regulations : "Bilingua l 26A. A member of the Force is entitled to a allowance bilingual allowance, at the rate set out in Part II of the Schedule, \where the Chief of Defence Staff (a) is satisfied that he is certified to speak fluently and write accurately in a foreign language; an d (b) requires him to use his knowledge of th e foreign language on an ongoing basis.

A member of the Force is entitled to a n extra heavy machine operator allowance, at the rate set out in Part II of the Schedule, where he possesse s a valid driving permit with a class 6 or class 7 endorsement, under the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, and is required to operate extra heavy machines or vehicles. 26C. A member of the Force, who is appointe d to a commission in accordance with section 15 of th e Act, is entitled to a specialization allowance at th e rate set out in Part II of the Schedule, where h e possesses a recognized degree or professiona l certification in a particular field and the Chief of Defence Staff requires him to use his knowledge i n that field on an ongoing basis. 26D. A member of the Force is entitled to a trade pay, at the rate set out in Part II of th e Schedule, where he has been trained to perform a skill and the Chief of Defence Staff requires him t o perform the skill as part of his official duty on a n ongoing basis.
