Athletic Spotlight AARON OSBORNE Aaron is a cross country runner for Warren East. At regionals, he placed 2 nd out of close to 200 runners. He helped push his team to win regionals. The last time WEHS won regionals was in 2006. His personal best in the 5K run is 16:26. Aaron said his favorite place to race is Kentucky Horse Park, which is located in Lexington. Good luck WEHS cross country at State! Athletic Spotlight RAYMOND GREEN Raymond plays football for Warren East this year as Wide Receiver and Safety. He has been playing football since he was in 4 th grade. His favorite experience playing at Warren East is when he caught his second interception of the year against Breckinridge County and he returned it for 80 yards. His goal for after high school is to go to college, preferably at Alabama. Good luck WEHS football against Owensboro High School! Raider Record Warren East High School 2

Teacher Spotlight MR. GHEE Mr. Ghee was hired over the summer to teach math at WEHS, his alma mater. His favorite hobby is slaying Dragons. An interesting fact about Mr. Ghee is that he was created in a lab in Minnesota. He attended college in the streets of Western Kentucky University. His favorite part about teaching at East is the breakfast. Educator Spotlight MRS. SPARKS For the past two years, Mrs. Sparks has made herself an invaluable asset to WEHS. She currently is working in the guidance office helping students with transcripts, driver licenses, and transfers. Her favorite hobby is hanging out at the ball park with her children. And interesting fact about her is that she graduated from and played softball and basketball for Warren East. She went to college at Western Kentucky University. Guidance News Warren East Guidance Office Website Please visit the WEHS Guidance Office website. There you will find a variety of helpful information and links. Also, be sure to click on and read each week s edition of the Raider Record for scholarship and college visit information. Warren East High School Guidance Counselors Edwina.strickler@warren.kyschools.us Sophomores & Seniors Angie.anderson@warren.kyschools.us Freshman & Juniors No Pass/No Drive Law Kentucky law states that any 16 or 17 year old student s permit or drivers license will be suspended for approximately 6 months if ANY of the following occurs: Student has more than 8 absences (this includes out of schools suspension) within a semester (not year) Student has not passed at least 5 or 7 classes that the student is enrolled in per semester (not year) Student drops out of school Parent access to Infinite Campus Parents will need three items in order to access the student portal. They are the student ID number, student date of birth, and the Infinite Campus website. Log on at https://infinitecampus.warren.kyschools.us/campus/portal/warren.jsp of User name will be the 10 digit student ID# Password is the student s first initial of their first name and first initial of their last name and your Date Birth in MMDDYY format. Example ac080691 If you try to access your account more than three times using incorrect student information, you will be locked out of the IC system. You must email the following address to have your password reset. It may take up to 72 hours to process this request. The email address is: passwordic@warren.kyschools.us. PSAT/NMSQT The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading, math and writing skills developed over many years, both in and out of school. You will not have to recall facts from literature, history, or science, or complete math formulas, as this test measures your reasoning and critical thinking skills. High scoring students qualify for National Merit Scholarship opportunities. Test Date was Wednesday, October 16 at Warren East High School. Test scores should hopefully come before Christmas. Guidance News ACT The ACT is a standardized test that measures high school achievement and is used for college admission and scholarships. Cost: $36.50 (Fee waivers are available for students on free/reduced lunch. A total of two fee waivers may be used while in high school.) All juniors will take the ACT free of charge at Warren East High School on March 4, 2014. It is recommended that you take the October 18 th PSAT and the October 26 th ACT if you intend to apply for the Kentucky Governor s Scholars Program. Guidance News College Lunchroom Visits & Preview Nights Lunchroom Visits Several colleges, universities and other organizations will be visiting throughout the year during our lunch time. If interested in that organization or college, this is a perfect time to grab some information and ask them questions. These allow parents and potential students to get updated information on scholarships, admissions, housing and campus life. Sports Announcements Cross Country Warren East is proud to announce that the boys cross-country team are the Class 2A Region 2 Champions!! Aaron Osborne led the boys and was the individual regional runner-up. Braxton Whitney finished in 10th place, Logan Wilson finished in 13th place, Taylor Herron finished in 27th place, Calvin Blankenship finished in 36th place and Grant Turner finished in 51st place. The girls team finished one place shy of qualifying for state. Almost all of them had season best or personal records. They finished in 6th place. Kailey Dodd finished in 35th place, Madeline Elder finished in 36th place, Hailey Naftel finished in 63rd place, and Shelby Chobot finished in 67th place. Great job to the cross-country teams.
