FIRST DAY OF CLASS WAS SUCCESSFUL STAFFORD MSD SUPERINTENDENT DR. ROBERT BOSTIC WELCOMED STUDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL FOR THE 2017-18 SCHOOL YEAR. THE FIRST DAY (AND THE FIRST WEEK) WAS A SUCCESSFUL ONE.

BOARD, COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY APPROVE 17-18 BUDGET The Stafford MSD Board of Trustees and Stafford City Council voted 13-0 to approve the 2017-18 Stafford MSD Budget. It is the fourth consecutive year that the Joint Budget Meeting has produced a unanimous approval. SHS TEACHER BLAKE WEIR HONORED STAFFORD HIGH THEATRE TEACHER BLAKE WEIR, A STAFFORD NATIVE, WAS HONORED BY THE HOUSTON PRESS AS ONE OF SIX FINALISTS FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A THEATER PRODUCTION. GALVESTON NEWSPAPER FEATURES SHS VOLLEYBALL COACH THE STAFFORD HIGH VOLLEYBALL TEAM IS OFF TO ITS BEST START IN MORE THAN A DECADE. THE GALVESTON DAILY NEWS WROTE A STORY ABOUT SHS HEAD COACH IVANA ELLAS, A 2007 GALVESTON BALL HIGH GRADUATE, WHILE THE LADY SPARTANS WERE IN GALVESTON COUNTY TO PLAY IN A TOURNAMENT. STAFFORD (8-4) FINISHED FOURTH IN THE SILVER BRACKET OF THE DICKINSON TOURNAMENT, WHICH FEATURED MOSTLY CLASS 6A SCHOOLS. STAFFORD WILL CONTINUE PLAYING TOP-NOTCH COMPETITION. THEY WILL CHALLENGE 6A KATY TAYLOR TODAY (THURSDAY, AUG. 24) IN THE GEORGE RANCH TOURNAMENT.

CHINESE DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION Stafford MSD parents, you have the opportunity to give Your Child the Gift of a Second Language! Do you want your child to: Learn another language?... be better prepared to work in our global community where a second language is an asset? Develop an understanding of diverse cultures? Did you know that Stafford Municipal School District has a Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Program beginning with Kindergarten through fifth grade? And did you know that our district reviews and grants permission for out of district transfers? Yes, we accept out of district transfers based on an application process and based on enrollment capacity. If this interest you, then please hurry because we have spots for incoming kindergarteners. We also have spots for incoming 5th grade students who already have a language proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. FINAL SCRIMMAGE TONIGHT @ KINKAID THE STAFFORD HIGH FOOTBALL TEAM WILL PREPARE FOR ITS FINAL SCRIMMAGE OF THE SEASON-- TONIGHT (THURSDAY, AUG. 24) AT KINKAID. VARSITY BEGINS AT 7, JV AT 6 AND FRESHMAN AT 5 THE FALCONS FINISHED 7-3 LAST SEASON, SO THE SCRIMMAGE SHOULD BE COMPETITIVE.

FOOTBALL ALUMNI SUCCESS Cam Montgomery (Rice) will start his college football career overseas when the Owls face Stanford next Saturday (Aug. 26) in Sydney, Australia. Hezekiah Jones (Texas A&M) will begin his college football career on Sept. 3 at UCLA in the historic Rose Bowl Stadium. Jalen Pitre (Baylor) will start his college football career when the Bears host Liberty on Sept. 2.
