Project info A VOLUNTEERING INVASSION 1st August 2018 31st July 2019 - PROJECT, 1st October 2018 30th June 2019 - ACTIVITY TRBOVLJE, SLOVENIA TRBOVLJE YOUTH CENTRE (MCT) / PIC number: 948357749, EVS accreditation number: 2016-1-SI02-KA110-013877

Summary Man develops solidarity as a fundamental human characteristic, the need for solidarity is one of the reasons for the development of volunteering activities in the world as well as in Slovenia. If we look at the Joint Volunteering Report in 2015, it is evident in statistics that volunteering activities in Slovenia are growing and there is an intensive interest for the development of volunteering. The effects of voluntary work on young people are enormous, author of the book "Pejmo Drugač" Špela Kapla lists only some of the effects: cultural awareness, changed priorities, career development, friendship, learning and other factors. Awareness of the effects of voluntary work on young people already exists, but what about the effects of voluntary work in organizations and the local environment? How does the local environment see volunteering? MCT speaks from the long-standing practice of coordinating EVS projects, we consider that international volunteer activities have contributed to raising awareness of the general volunteer work within the various organizations that hosted EVS volunteers. The effects of hosting EVS volunteers in the local environment were then identified by a number of organizations who ended up getting the accreditation for hosting, since 2013, we have contributed to the accreditation of 7 organizations in the region. The effects of a co-ordination EVS and the concern for networking and solidarity between host organizations is greater as organizations express their desire to connect through the implementation of joint EVS or the current European Solidarity Unit program and the dissemination of good practice. With the strategic goal for our volunteer project in 2018, we aim to defend and influence the awareness of volunteering in the local environment, recognizing its values and impact on all involved, and spreading good practices of international volunteering, which indirectly influences the rise of overall volunteering in the local environment. Long-term goal: 1. Raising awareness and recognition of volunteer work in the local environment. Short-term objectives: -Volunteers will identify as 5 volunteer activities that are offered to the local environment or host organizations to integrate young people into volunteering. - To enable 6 European volunteers to develop one group project, which will take the form of a festival promoting the component of volunteering and solidarity in the local environment. - To highlight the local environment about the importance of volunteering for the development of the local community through the implementation of the "volunteering fair", Long-term goal: 2. Visibility and dissemination of effects that international volunteering leaves to all involved, (volunteers, organization, sending organization and local environment) Short-term objectives: - Record and disseminate 6 good international volunteer practices in cooperation with host organizations, - Record the effects of European volunteer work in host organizations through a short documentary film that will be recorded and formulated by volunteers in collaboration with their host organizations and a co-ordination organization. Vision THE COMMON GOAL OF OUR WORK IS TO ACHIEVE THAT YOUNG PEOPLE BECOME THE KEY FACTORS OF THE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. MCT is a place where young people start their adventure, where every idea is the best idea, and every mistake is merely a helpful experience.

ABOUT US TRBOVLJE YOUTH CENTRE MCT is a youth centre whose main purpose is to support the young people in a local community in planning, organizing and carrying out various activities connected to their interests (from concerts to creativity- and education-related activities). These activities usually take place in the MCT club. Since 2011, when we moved into our current headquarters, we also offer hospitality services, through our café and hostel. This is primarily aimed at support of the youth-related work, but at the same time also available to general population. OUR TEAM: Eight permanent employees and students. MCT has been active in the field of sending and hosting EVS and now ESC projects for over 10 years. In this period of EVS experience we have gained so much as an organization and a community. Experience gained through EVS is priceless in our community and helps our organization and community to grow. Now we will continue our development within ESC.

By hosting ESC projects, our organization has gained diverse experiences, and thanks to these projects, our small local community has become more accepting of foreigners. ESC is well known in our local community and we are working towards building better connectivity with the ESC and the local community by hosting ESC projects in different organizations and supporting the organizations to realize the value of ESC projects in their surroundings. The main contribution of our projects is that the volunteers have a diverse opportunities to work in different kinds of organizations, from educational and cultural organizations to making different intergenerational activities. Because of the many hosting organizations in our region, we can build projects together with the volunteers and incorporate their needs to enable them to get experience with different organizations. ESC projects in MCT usually include volunteers working on accomplishing their own activities with the help of a mentor (their coordinator), which includes planning organizing and carrying out the project. Volunteer s projects are aimed at the community, particularly at the young people, aged from 15 to 30. In this way, our volunteers get in touch with basic planning as well as determining purposes, goals, results and indicators. In the organizing phase, they have a chance to cooperate with various organizations and individuals, and they can also experience team work as well as develop their own entrepreneurial skills through the whole process. A volunteering invasion project is particularly aimed at promoting volutary work, to raise visability of the volunteer work, to share good practices of voluntary work and to raise volunteering awareness in the local community.

HOSTING ORGANISATION carrying out activities in hosting organization - description at the end of the document. MCT carrying out activities for promoting voluntary work in the local community and sharing good practices

Doing voluntary work in MCT, I had the chance to experience completely new things from preparing promotional material to carrying out English courses for elderly people and an Origami workshop for kids as well as helping with preparations for a festival, and much more. Anyone can find something they want to do here. All you need is to have a desire to do new things, an open mind as well as show some initiative from time to time. Practical information Weather in Slovenia is more or less characterised with considerable temperature variations. Summers are warm and sometimes hot, mostly in July and August (+20 up to 35 degrees Celsius), with relatively mild weather during spring and autumn. Winter, which lasts from November to mid-march, can sometimes be very cold (0 to -10 degrees Celsius). Rainfall is distributed throughout the year, with the heaviest rainfall in the period from June to August. Last winter we were very lucky with the snow and we had constant snow cover in the hills for at least 5 weeks, which happens rarely since the climate is changing, but nevertheless, one usually gets the opportunity to come into contact with snow in the lowland :). HOSTING ORGANIZATIONS DELAVSKI DOM TRBOVLJE - CULTURAL CENTRE DESCRIPTION: DDT is a central culture-related institution in Trbovlje. It is located in an monumental building that was built in 1956 and is decorated with a beautiful mosaic. Its renovated facilities are home to theatre and cinema shows, concerts, exhibitions as well as other cultural events, and they are also available for business meetings and seminars. Each year, DDT holds one of the largest international festivals of new-media art, Speculum Artium, with numerous distinguished representatives from the field of art, science and technology. The main motto of our Trbovlje new media program is»humanization of Technology«and is aimed to change the identity of community from post-industrial into a contemporary one fit for 21st century. A lot of emphasis is also put on cultural education. DDT has a permanent team of fifteen employees and the volunteer will become an integral part of DDT team, bringing fresh insight to our community building and transformation project. Volunteer will: - help the core team with organizing and implementing events, - be encouraged and supported to develop and conduct new events, - be able to learn and work on graphic design, photo editing, video montage, - be encouraged and supported to do new media art production and/or cultural education workshops.

To me, EVS means getting new experiences, knowledge, connections a complete worldly experience! To become a volunteer you need to have a WILL for it. The other things and abilities you will get by doing the everyday work. It is most important to come and try it out. To me, DDT is very interesting due to the nature of the work itself, which agrees with me. In only a few months, I learned a lot in the areas I m already familiar with as well as in the areas that are completely new to me. All this will help me in my future work.
