Did you know that part of Livingston Parish Library s strategic plan is to create innovative technology services? Teen Tech Week, held this year on Sunday, March 4 Saturday, March 10 is a time when our library system showcases all of the digital resources and services available to help teens succeed in school, prepare for college, and have some fun along the way! This year s Teen Tech Week theme is Libraries are for Creating. The entire month of March, all ages are encouraged to show their creativity: Idea Lab Our Idea Lab located in the Branch is a place where cutting-edge technology has been made available for public use. We invite you to use our equipment to bring your creativity to life. From simple to complicated projects, the Idea Lab is where you can transform concepts into reality. Virtual Wednesdays Escape your Wednesday by exploring virtual worlds at the Branch each Wednesday in March from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Bring yourself, your family, and your friends to take turns on a variety of games on the HTC VIVE! All ages are invited. We'll also have VR headsets that you can use with your smartphone to try out even more virtual realities. Livingston Parish Library continually strives to be a front runner in bringing technology to our patrons, Head of Youth Services Lesley Campbell says. The public library is the perfect place for teens to get exposure and hands-on experience with different types of technology that allow them to be creative and learn new skills to help them in the workforce. Feeding Young Minds Initiative Feeding Young Minds is a joint project with Mighty Moms and the Livingston Parish School Board. Now available at all five Livingston Parish Library branches, volunteers provide snacks and drinks to hungry kids and teens throughout each month. The aim of the project is to eliminate childhood hunger in Livingston Parish. Get Your Taxes Done For Free With VITA! Tax season begins this month, and Livingston Parish Library offers free tax preparation through April. Co-sponsored by Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and the Internal Revenue Service, this service offers free tax preparation for participants with lower or moderate incomes for 2017. Using VITA is easy. Bring tax documents such as W-2s, 1099s, and information for deductions and credits along with a copy of last year s tax return and a Social Security card for yourself, a spouse, and dependents. Volunteers will prepare most simple returns, but more complicated returns will not be processed.
