LPO General Board Meeting September 10th, 2018 Call to Order : 7:03 pm Attendees : Karen Calcaterra, Kristina Short, Sara Robeson, Carren Rogan, Julie Dobson, Michelle Dalton-White, Shannon Willhite, Deborah Lazzaretti, Michelle McSpadden, Tamara DeGraw, Sharon Goedeke, Kara Drake, Kirsten Molskness, Krista Hansen, Lisa Bollinger, Mary Beth Brown, Alicia McClellan, Justina Hudak, Nancy Tulloch, Laura Schmitt, Anita Shawke, Brenda Luter, Dawn Werk, Diana Dakin, Melissa Hoener, Kristen Bly, Melissa Greene, Tracy McElroy Minutes: LPO May meeting minutes were approved as distributed Principal s Report: Karen Calcaterra Thank you for all of your hard work to support our school. Fantastic school year so far, already week 5. Kids are being unusually good, connected, pleasant year so far. Patriot Day ceremony at 8 am on the track to remember 9/11 tomorrow. Local first responders, active military and veterans join in, and LHS will serve them breakfast after the ceremony. Wednesday is our first half day, release at 12:19. What is the difference between a late start Monday and Half Day? Late starts: teachers meet with their curriculum team to review assessments, data trends, etc to determine where departments need additional support, determine how are we challenging the kids, etc. Half Days are used for teaching staff to give input and determine how their department curriculum will work within the possible new schedule modules. Sept 19th LHS is hosting a flu shot clinic from 230p to 530p. Open to public with insurance card. Rockwood Gives Back - Two RSD board members spearheading a new program. Sun Oct 7th kickoff, 5k at 3 pm. More info on RSD homepage. Got Your Backpack program continues to grow for kids that need food over the weekend. Looking to expand the program to clothing, household items, etc. There are ways to donate time or money, please consider helping and spreading the word. State of the Union of Rockwood on Wed Sep 26th, 7 pm at Eureka. All welcome. Trauma Informed Care follow up meetings. New group going through the training this Fall. It is a 4 part, half-days series, once a month. There is room for 2 LPO parents to join the group, email Dr. Calcaterra if interested. Sept 20, Oct 11, Nov 26, Dec 6th. Program is presented by Alive and Well St. Louis. Participants learn techniques and

skills for more appropriate emotional care of the students that have experienced, or are experiencing all types of personal trauma. Participants also learn how to better manage their own self-care so they are also able to help others. Senior Panoramic moved to Monday Sept 24th so that the Field Hockey seniors can be included. Activity buses now available for Mon-Thurs, must sign up by 12:38pm. Very happy to offer this as an option for LHS families. Homecoming Tailgate Policies: LHS administration is making changes this year to help facilitate a more organized and safer event, and set guidelines and expectations for our groups that set up tailgate tents. Some issues last year warrant these changes. A Google form has been made available for the booster clubs, open to apply for tailgating spots, application and $50 per spot must be turned in by this Friday the 14th. Cannot set up until 3:30 pm. Reinforce the no alcohol policy. Tailgate tents put into a lottery for tailgate spots. Discussion of ways to communicate the changes to the community, and who will get priority along the stadium drive. The $50 goes toward paying extra custodians to clean the trash and candy from the entire parade route. LPO can help with social media posts. New system we are figuring out as we go. Suggestion that LPO send an email to parents regarding expectations. John Sumner, AD, joined the meeting: Homecoming information was sent to every coach and activity director. Making changes for safety and enforcing the policies. All teams and programs will be taken care of. Larger organizations will still be able to be together, but no teams will be given priority over others. Question of whether or not high school organizations will get priority of spots over junior high etc. Mr. Sumner reminded the group that this is a community event for all feeder schools, not just LHS. Giving priority to some teams over others doesn t send the right message. Link to all of the information can be put on the activities webpage. Suggestion that deadlines, cost, etc. be openly communicated ASAP. Sumner mentioned deadline can be pushed back a bit if more time is needed. LPO needs to assist in getting in the information out to the clubs, teams, etc. Every team or club that pays the fee is guaranteed a spot. Each spot is $50. Some teams need more than one so they apply for more than one. There should be plenty of room. There will be more discussion of the issue at the Administration meeting tomorrow. Sharon mentioned we need to be the megaphone for the community. This is a positive change, that will help with the safety of the students. Goal is to involve all people in the community. We want to send the right message for future generations. Deadline will probably be pushed back to next week to allow more communication about the changes. Kristina will communicate decisions and changes, we will use social media etc. as well. (Update: Deadline is now Tuesday, Sept 18th to turn in tailgate applications.) President s Report: Kristina Short Happy Birthday to all of our summer and September birthdays! Still getting new MSA email system set up properly with all new emails. It is really important that class directors communicate to their parents every month. Parents really appreciate the communication, even if it s a slow month. All parents need to be a connected Lancer.

Introductions of all meeting attendees. Information about the class level fundraisers will be sent to everyone via email. Please review to re-familiarize yourself with the expectations and guidelines for class fundraising. Treasurer s Report: Carren Rogan Need to approve the 2018-2019 budget. Note on buzz book income. Whatever is collected this year will go to the senior class, as it always has. $1500 is just an estimate on the budget. They will receive whatever profit is collected from the sales of the buzz book. Special Olympics now is it s own line item instead of being funded from the grant budget as in past years. Freshman/office activities is allotted to each class as Freshman for use for school activities, Fish Dance, tailgate, etc. Sams card is available to use for LPO events. Coordinate with Carren Rogan for use. Question of why we aren t spending grants at the beginning of the year. The income is built over the course of the year, so it is not available at the start of the year when we incur many of our big expenses to stock the school store, etc. Money not spent at the end of the year is available for grants and possibly wish list items. All money is spent before the close of the school year. Class treasurers, please check your account totals. If they aren t consistent with Carren s numbers, please call her to discuss. Motion to vote on the proposed budget. Budget approval was passed. Grade Level Director Reports: Seniors: Nancy Tulloch and Laura Schmitt First celebration/memory maker planning meeting this Wednesday. Email going out about meeting, homecoming details. Senior events flyer in summer mailer made $5000 in ticket sales in August, which was fantastic, great idea to include senior information sheet in the registration packet. Juniors: Nicole Turner and Shannon Willhite Not much going on yet, but filled 40 backpacks for the Strawbridge Foundation over the summer. Sophomores: Sara Behl and Mary Beth Brown Email going out about homecoming week, what s needed, etc. and the new class fundraiser of Rock n Roll Bingo. Date is March 2nd. Freshman tailgate wasn t well attended before their football game, but there were a lot of sporting events going on during it.

Carnival kick off meeting in October after homecoming. Income: Lancer s Landing : Krista Hansen, Justina Hudak, Lori Hueckel Been busy getting the store running, sign up genius is filled for the first three months. Homecoming week will have fun, special items. More school supplies this year. Planners back in stock. Balloon bouquets available for school groups as well, sports banquets etc. Bring your own balloons are $.75 for helium only, $1.00 for balloon and fill. Teachers and staff can visit Lancer s Down Under, the back room for special staff items. It has been well-received by teachers and staff. Spirit Wear: Vicki Reed and Sharon Goedeke $5500 dollars profit last year, so budget increased this year. We purchased $6700 in new merchandise from 4 vendors. $3k plus in inventory carried over from last year. New items with screen and embroidered items now available. Online store opened before school started to build cash flow, works great because we don t have to carry that inventory, they fill orders as received. Using social media, peachjar to increase awareness and sales. 35% of entire merchandise inventory sold in first month of school. Off to a great start. Creating a special online store for staff requests in adult and child sizes, coming soon. Membership: Michelle McSpadden $7347 membership donations so far, not including all parent pay transactions. Kirsten said it s about $3600 so far in parent pay donations. Parent Pay: Kirsten Molskness Parent Pay is in its third year, getting to be a well-oiled machine. This year so far has sold double the items compared to this time last year. You can now be a guest and buy tickets to certain events, don t have to have a Rockwood student, ie TOWC tickets. Creating one calendar for all community related events and opportunities to get involved in. Going to kick off canned food drive at Homecoming to get a head start.
