Delta Beautification Committee The Delta Beautification Committee would like to acknowledge the efforts of Ruth Sheridan Griffiths for coordinating and planting flowers in the village barrels and entrance sign boxes this year. A vote of thanks is also extended to the following residents: Robin Canning for assisting with the plantings, Ralph and Marlene Halladay for planting and caring for the bed at the Village sign in front of their house and Heather and Dennis Halladay for caring for the flower barrel near their residence. Great Job! The Township of Rideau Lakes has adopted a colour scheme of red and white through the use of the red geranium where possible in honour of the War of 1812 Bicentennial. While the municipal plant watering program has started in our Village with plant watering being carried out on each Tuesday and Thursday, the Committee would appreciate the assistance of Village residents in watering the planters closest to your residence during the off days. Congratulations to everyone in the community for maintaining your lawns, flower and vegetable gardens. Delta is certainly one of the loveliest Villages in the area. News from the The Delta Mill Society 613 928 2584 or email info@deltamill.org Come out and tour the Old Stone Mill; especially if you have lived here your entire life. You won t believe the changes as wheat is once again being ground into flour just as it was 200 years ago. The Old Stone Mill, a National Historic site, is a wonderful piece of history and at one time was the hub of the community. Grinding of the Ontario Heritage Red Fife Wheat started this year on May 19 th, and will continue every Saturday throughout the summer. The wheat is grown locally by Chris Wooding of Ironwood Organics, Gananoque. Flour from the Old Stone Mill is of extremely high quality and is for sale at the Mill. Four grades are available for sale; Fine, Bolted, Whole Grain, and Bran all these result from a single grind; either not sorted (whole grain) or separated into different grades by gravity and screening. If you would like a taste of homemade bread made from the Mill s Flour, you can stop by the Mill each Saturday morning until Labour Day weekend at 10:00 a.m. Plan to arrive early and you may be lucky enough to enjoy special treats like cinnamon buns or bagels made by local bread making expert, Louise Richards. Remember: The Deadline for the September/October Edition is August 24 th, 2012 Submit your Information Today to the Park Office! Email: bevlake@ripnet.com Page 5 of 6
