Commitment to our Intern s Professional Development: An Innovative 10-Week Training Program In addition to improving the lives of our UWBC community members, we are committed to improving the lives of - and opportunities for - our interns by providing a valuable Professional Development experience during our Internship program. At UWBC, we have created the Ultimate Workplace for Building your Career. We offer our interns a Professional Development 10-Week Training Program as part of the Internship that provides interns with the opportunity to learn about all facets of nonprofit management and to develop their own professional profiles throughout the 10-weeks. The Training Program includes development of the following: social media and LinkedIn profiles, a network of nonprofit and professional leaders, a resume and professional writing integrating their work experience, a portfolio of work completed, and a professional reference. Join Our Mission-Centered Team Become a partner in change by interning during the summer of 2013 in one of the following roles: Marketing & Social Media Intern The Intern performs a key role in assisting in the development of the marketing strategy and content for UWBC. The work responsibilities include the following: Work the UWBC website that highlights contributions from community members; Generate content and blog pieces about funded agencies/programs to promote the work of UWBC in the community; Contribute to UWBC s social media presence by assisting in monitoring and posting on social media networks; Assist with community relations projects involving Bucks County s schools, government agencies, businesses, organized labor, financial institutions, community development corporations, voluntary and neighborhood associations, the faith community, and individuals; and Page 1
Assist the Vice President of Marketing with the development of additional marketing projects as needed. Must be a creative self-starter who is able to work independently as well as interact with community members. Preference for a college student with social media, web design, and blogging experience. Community Impact Intern The Intern plays a critical role in assessing UWBC s programs involving building healthy communities, creating financial stability, promoting education, and responding to emergency needs for all people throughout Bucks County. The intern will work on the following: Serve as member of Needs Assessment Team: Assist with data collection including surveys, focus groups, and statistics for report for 2013 that assesses UWBC s programs and community members needs; analyze results and present findings as part of the report. Develop Data Dashboard format graphics and text to present information representative of the needs and opportunities in the community, targeted to multiple audiences Assist Dr. Smallacombe in the assessment of programs impacting the community; and Plan and conduct community impact activities that achieve strategic goals, meet critical community needs, and improve lives in Bucks County. Must be a self-starter with organizational, follow-up, analytical, and problem-solving skills who is able to interview and gather survey data, analyze results, and present findings in a report. Preference for a college student with an interest in understanding how nonprofit efforts impact progress within the community and excellent writing, research and computer skills. Campaign & Resource Development Intern The Internperforms responsibilities at the core of the mission of UWBC in the areas of public outreach, marketing, and fundraising campaigns. The intern will support these areas by completing the following work: Page 2
Work with the Director to determine appropriate revenue and resources targets; Design and write a fundraising campaign strategy that includes identifying potential donors and increasing the online presence; Work on implementing the campaign strategy to generate revenue for our campaigns; Connect with business and community organizers to fulfill fundraising goals; Coordinate media programs and outreach activities, services and/or program implementation in collaboration with relevant institutions; and Work with the Social Media Intern to update and increase the media presence via online marketing, social media development, and fundraising campaign strategies. Must be a confident self-starter who is able to develop a rapport with UWBC s members and business representatives in order to assist in fundraising efforts. Must have proficient organizational and multitasking skills. Preference for college students interested in community outreach, fundraising, and nonprofit management. Education Grant Project Intern The Intern plays a key role in the success of the 21stCCLC project by assisting in the administration of the Summer program for at-risk youth in Bristol Borough (grades 4-12). The Intern will fulfill the following responsibilities: Track students progress and attendance, assist in oversight of all program logistics, provide classroom management, and assist students in math and language arts;and Serve as a resource, assisting students in accomplishing the goals of the program. Preference for college students interested in education, especially for at-risk youth. Page 3
Youth Prevention Grant Project Intern The LYFT Intern assists in the administration of the youth prevention coalition in Pennsybury SD focusing on middle school and high school. The responsibilies include the following: Track students progress and attendance, assist in oversight of all program logistics, provide classroom management, and assist students in math and language arts; and Serve as a resource, assisting students in accomplishing the goals of the program. Preference for college students interested in education, especially for at-risk youth. Community Impact Intern for PreK The Intern works to ensure access to quality, early childhood education by completing the following: Coordinate CTF trainings (for caregivers) and Pre-K counts enrollment (for families); and Assess and evaluate educational offerings and trainings. Preference for college students interested in education, especially for PreK students. Internship Information & Application Requirements The Internship Program runs for 10 weeks from Monday, June 3 to Friday, August 9, 2013. Interns must be available all 10 weeks. Interns work 15-20 hours per week for 10 weeks to complete a total of 150-200 hours of work. This may require onsite and offsite work, and scheduling may be flexible. However, all interns must be present for weekly professional development meetings each Monday afternoon. The Office will work with Internship programs to achieve credit for work experience. Interns must be committed to accomplishing the goals of UWBC. Interns must be able to work independently and show initiative in the internship role. Page 4
