Crazy to think in 3 weeks we will be celebrating Thanksgiving. During this time we think of what we are thankful for, let s take a moment from our busy lives to reflect on what we are thankful for. What came to mind? Family, friends, and good health. What is else is there? What are some things we take for granted? Take a moment to think about what you are lucky to have in your life! I challenge you this month to say Thank You to someone who has positively impacted you! At the Howard County Extension office, we are THANKFUL for all the 4-H volunteers for their continued dedication to the 4-H program and all the Howard County 4-H youth! Thank you to the Extension Council, Youth Development Committee, Alumni Committee, club leaders, county council members, parents, and 4-H members! Thank you all for your passion towards positive youth development opportunities to help build stronger programs to build productive citizens, outstanding communicators, and effective leaders! Our 4-H new year is in full swing it means re-enrollment and new enrollment time is here! Keep those enrollments rolling in! Take a few minutes to complete re-enrollment process before December 1. Continue to spread the word about 4-H and what you have learned and experienced and what it has to offer! Have you thought about something new you would like to try this year? There are so many possibilities try a NEW one! Make plans to attend our 4-H Awards Program on Sunday, November 6 at the Cresco Movie Theater at 1:30 p.m. and enjoy a free movie Trolls after the program! COUNTY NEWS 4-H Awards Program Come join us on Sunday, November 6 at the Cresco Movie Theater at 1:30 p.m. as we honor 4-H members, volunteers, and supporters on their many accomplishments this past year! After the awards program, kick back with some popcorn & pop and enjoy a private movie showing of Trolls! Invite your families, grandparents, friends, and neighbors to come and celebrate. NOTE: As you arrive at the theater, 4-H members we ask that you sit with your club near the front. Re-enrollment on 4H Online Re-enrollment has begun for the upcoming year! Please go to https://iowa.4honline.com/ to sign-in and complete the process for re-enrollment after September 1 st. You have until November 30 th to complete or risk losing the assistance for your annual fee. If you need help enrolling online or would like to apply for membership dues assistance please contact the Extension Office! Leaders if you have new members have them come in or call the Extension Office. Recruitment Pizza Party It is once again the time of year to work on new 4-H recruits for the coming 4-H year! Let s share the Howard County 4-H program with others! If you know friends or families in your area, personally invite them to your next meeting. Howard County 4-H Clubs will be competing for the most new members enrolling in their club by November 30 th. The club that recruits the most will receive a pizza party! Remind your friends they don t have to live on a farm to enjoy 4-H! Recruit all ages! SAVE THE DATES Important event dates have been set for the upcoming 4-H year! Mark your calendars early so you can plan to participate. We realize everyone has busy schedules so it is important to plan early! Watch your mail and online for more important dates for 2015-2016! SPRING FAIR When: Saturday, April 8 Where: NICC Cresco Center HOWARD COUNTY FAIR When: June 21-25 Where: Howard County Fairgrounds LIVESTOCK INFO Beef Weigh-In Attention 4-H and FFA beef exhibitors mark your calendars for the beef weigh-in going to be held on Saturday, December 31 at the Cresco Sale Barn from 9-11 a.m. You will be receiving a letter in mid-december. CLOVER KIDS Clover Kids Begins This Month The Howard County Clover Kids program will be beginning this month! We will have clubs in three different towns across the county. Clover Kids will kickoff at Notre Dame on Monday, November 1 st. A brochure was sent out through the school. We have a bunch of fun and exciting topics we will be learning about this year from dinosaurs to art! We will have four locations for the program this year. The locations are the following: RICEVILLE Date: 2 nd Monday of the month Location: Riceville school lunchroom Time: 3:15 5:15 p.m. NOTRE DAME Date: 1 st Tuesday of the month Location: Notre Dame Church Basement Time: 3:15 5:15 p.m. (Nov will be 2:30 4:30 p.m.) CRESTWOOD ELMA Date: 1 st Thursday of the month Location: Crestwood Elementary lunchroom Time: 3:30 5:30 p.m. (Nov will be from 2:30 4:30 p.m.) Date: 1 st Saturday of the month Location: St. Paul s Maple Leaf Church Time: 9:15 11:15 a.m. We have great numbers so far and are still accepting sign-up sheets if you have interest but have not gotten signed up yet. We would love to have you join us as part of the Howard County 4-H program. BEYOND THE COUNTY Opportunities Beyond the County Workshop Members in 9th 12th grade Come join Iowa State 4-H Council member, Marissa Foels, to explore the many 4-H opportunities beyond the county on Thursday, December 29 from 1 p.m. 3p.m. at the Winneshiek Extension Office. Learn more about what the 4-H program has to offer high schoolers at the state and national level. Participants will have time to start applications for opportunities they are interested in. RSVP to Erica at the Extension Office by Monday, December 19! SAVE on World's Toughest Rodeo 2017 Discount tickets are available for 4-H members and families for the 2017 World s Toughest Rodeo at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday, January 13 and Saturday, January 14 with event beginning at 7:30 p.m. You will save $10 off $20, $30, $40, and $60 tickets. Also, discounts are available for groups of 10+ and 20+. Book your tickets early for the best seats. Contact Carrie Fick at (515)564-8146. 4-H IS BASED ON RESEARCH

BEYOND THE COUNTY Pioneer Grants Available Have a community project planned and looking for some funds? Pioneer Hi-Bred International is offering Pioneer Community Improvement Grants through the Iowa 4-H Foundation again this year! Information and application are available at: www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/pioneergrants. Grants can be awarded from $50 to $500, but will typically not exceed half the cost of the total project as groups are encouraged to work at obtaining local support as a match. Successful projects are those that enlist partnerships with other community entities, demonstrate engagement by the full 4 -H club, and make a positive impact on the community. Applications and support letters for 2016/2017 grants are due by January 17 to the Howard County Extension Office! COUNTY COUNCIL Awards Program Reminder to arrive at the movie theatre by 12:15 p.m. to help set up for the awards program and go over job assignments for the program. Please remember to wear your green 4-H shirt and black or khaki pants. NEXT MEETING Mark your calendars our next meeting will be Sunday, November 6 th after the awards program! We will be having a short meeting discussing club visits. Remember to bring $5 for our Christmas Child! This will take place of a Holiday Party and a December meeting. LEADER S CORNER Enrollments & Enrollment Fees Please continue to encourage your youth to re-enroll in 4hOnline. The deadline to receive financial assistance is December 1. Enrollment fees will be subsidized and will know how much after the Extension Council meets on November 14. New Volunteer Training For those volunteers, that are new within the last 3 years offered this year are new volunteer trainings. There will be 19 locations and dates spread throughout the state between October and March. All new volunteers need to attend the training once. Registration is now open at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/ volunteertraining. Closet location is at NICC Dairy Center in Calmar on January 7! Annual Leader Training SAVE THE DATE Mark your calendars our annual required leader training will be held on Monday, January 9 beginning at 6 p.m. at the Extension Office. Come learn how youth engagement strengths 4-H! You will be learning about engaging youth in intentional, meaningful ways. By creating opportunities for youth to make decisions, take on responsibilities, and contribute to improving outcomes for themselves and others, and so much more! You will have homework prior to meeting that you will be receiving next month! NEEDED ASAP!
