Introduction & Background Connecting, Creating, Celebrating UK Young Artists is a registered charity that champions the next generation of creativity, supporting collaboration and intercultural dialogue, ensuring a vibrant and diverse creative future for the UK. We develop artists practice through cross art form opportunities and celebrate creativity across national & international platforms. Founded in 2008, UK Young Artists (UKYA) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. UKYA is funded and supported by Arts Council England and a unique partnership of three Universities, De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University and University of Derby. We support young people (aged between 18 and 30, currently working in the UK) to develop and expand their practice by providing creative, artistic and professional development support for those working across all arts disciplines, including visual and performing arts, music, literature, digital and applied arts. Since its inception, UK Young Artists has supported over 1000 artists in the UK and internationally through four major national arts festivals and artist attendance at six international festivals hosted by the International Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM); one of UK Young Artists partners. As of April 2018 UKYA has joined as a new member of Arts Council England National Portfolio. UK Young Artists Core Programme National Platform Our national platforms are the foremost cross art form events which celebrate the work of young artists in the UK. They alternate in the cities of Derby, Nottingham and Leicester on a two-year cycle. They provide an opportunity for artists and audiences to experience innovative and exceptional art and performance at the leading edge of contemporary creativity. Artists and the public can also take part in workshops, debates and symposia, and artists are encouraged to connect and collaborate across the festival and beyond. Our next Platform is Nottingham 19 City Takeover and will be held in Nottingham from February 7th -13th 2019 International Platform Our international platforms celebrate the best cross art form young artists selected from the national platform to represent the UK at the International Biennale of Young Artists of Europe and the Mediterranean (BJCEM). The international platform provides artists with their first experience of working and showing internationally and develops and embeds our partnership with BJCEM, as well as working with other international partners such as South Korea, China and Norway. 3
Creative Development Platform Our platforms for development represent the Golden Thread : the connectivity which further supports the UKYA artist journey. These platforms range from talks to week long residencies, delivered with national partners across the UK in areas of emerging cultural opportunities, offering peer to peer support and learning. These are both actual and virtual and support the development of ideas without constraints. Legacy Platform UKYA selects Alumni to join the organisation as Ambassadors, Board Members and Patrons ensuring that UKYA has the voice of the artist at the heart of what we do and peer models to learn from and continue to shape and define our future work Main purpose of role: Production and Marketing Assistant UKYA is seeking to support a new opportunity for an emerging and aspiring Producer with a focus on Large Scale Projects. The role will support the Creative Producer and aspects of the communications and audience development work in the delivery of Nottingham 19 (see City Takeover Brochure PDF on web page) To support the presentation and installation of a range of artwork across the city in formal and non formal spaces as part of the Nottingham 19 City Takeover To lead & support the presentation and delivery of the Nottingham 19 City Takeover Fringe event which will be working with up to three university groups. To support the Nottingham 19 marketing and communications campaign, managing social media and UKYA events To inform and support the development of public programming for the Nottingham 19 Assist the team in the office to ensure the successful delivery of Nottingham 19 To assist the engagement co-ordinator as appropriate What the role will involve As part of our commitment to develop the creativity of young people and to put artists at the heart of what we do. What you will learn How to organise and plan work with individual artists in challenging & public spaces Manage artists contracts, selection process and all administration relating to Nottingham 19 How to liaise with venue staff & technicians to plan installation and de-install of work and performances Learn from an experienced in house team How to ensure technical requirements are collated and communicated to the tech team and assist with the placing of site specific work/s and performances How to cohesively show a broad range of cross art form work in one place/space How to interpret work for the public 4
Understanding of how to market and promote a large scale event To develop your critical understanding and awareness of interdisciplinary arts and large scale festivals We would like you have the following: Essential To have some experience (a minimum of 1 year) of curating/producing work for the public whether that be within an art institution, education or self-led environment. Experience working on marketing communications campaigns, preferably within arts, culture or education. To have some general administrative experience Desirable To be able to demonstrate some ambitions to undertake future work as a producer To have some experience of supporting the presentation of work in a performative setting Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign desirable Computer literate Experience of producing marketing material to brand guidance Organised with an ability to prioritise To have an good knowledge of the contemporary performing arts/live art sector Meticulous with strong attention to detail Have some technical know how Strong Communications skills both written and oral You should be..
