The theme for the ILA 60th International Conference has been identified as Embedded Librarianship and Technological Challenges of the Digital Age. Sub Themes of the Conference are: THEME 1. Technologies and Content Development; 6. Capacity Building; 7. TQM and TQP; 8. Role of Library & Information Science Schools and Professional Bodies WHO MAY PARTICIPATE Library & Information professionals from academic, special and public libraries, IT professionals, publishers, authors, teachers, research scholars, students and all users of libraries, Public Library authorities, Policy makers, Information providers, vendors and others. CALL FOR PAPERS Original contributions based on practice, theoretical and empirical research, case studies etc are invited on the theme and subthemes of the conference as mentioned above. All papers will go through a process of blind review by a panel of experts and accepted papers will be published in the conference volume (with ISBN). Authors are requested to submit brief CV (only one paragraph) and colored photograph along with the paper. The last date of submission is 5 th March, 2015. Author shall be intimated about the acceptance by 10 th March, 2015. Papers will be published in the conference volume only after the receipt of Demand Draft of Rs. 1000/- and one of the author gets himself/herself registered for the conference. (ii) Undertaking regarding genuineness of papers. (iii) Undertaking regarding surrendering copyright in favour of Indian Library Association. (Both the undertakings are required to be submitted as given in the format available on the ILA website i.e. www.ilaindia.net) (iv) It is author s/ contributor s responsibility that papers is free from grammatical errors. AUTHOR GUIDELINES Manuscripts Requirements: Length: Not more than 10 pages maximum for a paper in double space and shall not exceed 5000 words. However, authors are advised to write as much precise as possible. Theme Font: Times New Roman Font Size: Heading-14 (Bold), Sub Heading 12(Bold), and rest of the text - 12. Title: The title should be concise. Paper Format and Layout: The paper should have the following details: Title (should be in centre) Authors (designation, affiliation, detailed address, e-mail ID and Phone numbers) Abstract (maximum 150 words) Keywords (maximum 6) Introduction Conclusion References (APA style format only) Case Studies proposed may preferably be supported by real life case examples from public library situations Tables and Figures, if any must have a brief caption written on the bottom of the figure and provide the due reference of the original work. References must be in latest version of American Psychological Association (APA) standard format. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR ILA AWARDS / FELLOWSHIPS Nominations are invited on plain paper for ILA awards with detailed CV. Applications should reach to ILA General Secretary, Indian Library Association, A-40-41, Flat No. 201, Ansal Building, Dr. Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi-110009, latest by 10th February 2015: 1. ILA-KAULA BEST LIBRARIAN AWARD-2014. The award instituted by Prof. P. N. Kaula Endowment for Library and Information Science, Guntur (AP), is for the professionals in the field of LIS in India. The Award carries a shawl, citation and memento. 2. ILA-VENDANAIKEE FELLOWSHIP 2013-2014 The ILA-Vendanaikee Fellowship was instituted by Mrs. V. K. Sundaram, formerly reader, DLIS University of Delhi. The award is to be given to a candidate who has secured highest percent of marks in the qualifying examination on the basis of which the candidate has been admitted to the BLISc Course in the University of Delhi during 2013-2014. The award is to be given in cash (Rs. 1000/only). 3. ILA-CD SHARMA AWARD-2014 The Award is meant for the author of the best paper written and presented during All-India Library Conference of ILA. The Award was instituted by Mrs. Kamla Sharma, W/o Dr. C. D. Sharma. The Award will be announced at the time of All India Library Conference. It consist of presentation of books worth Rs. 1000/-. 4. ILA-A G MOTIWALE AWARD-2014 The Award is meant for the young author of the best paper written and presented during the conference of ILA. Author must be below the age of 40 years. The Award was instituted by Mrs. Sushila Motiwale w/o Late Dr. A. G. Motiwale. The Award will be announced at the time of All India Library Conference. It consist of cash award of Rs.500/-. 5. ILA-P V VERGHESE AWARD-2014 The Award has been instituted by Sh. P.V. Verghese and is meant to be given to the author of the best paper published in Journal of ILA in a year. The Award will be given for the volume 48 at the time of the conference. It consists of cash award of Rs. 500/-. 6. ILA-DR. K PADMA UMAPATHY AND KS UMAPATHY FELLOWSHIP IN LIBRARY & INFORMATION SCIENCE Five Fellowships worth Rs. 2000/- each are to be awarded annually out of the accrued interest on certain sum of deposit with ILA. The money has been donated by Dr. K. S. Umapathy, former Professor of Library and Information Science and Librarian of the Bangalore University. These Fellowships are given to the students doing MLISc in recognized universities. At least three Fellowships will be awarded to the woman candidate provided they satisfy the conditions. Students 5

securing 60% of the marks in qualifying examination and needing help may seek the Fellowship. However, students getting any other type of assistance from Government / University, etc. will not be eligible for the Fellowship. Not more than one Fellowship would be awarded to any one student from an institution during one year. 7. ILA-Dr. L M PADHYA BEST UNIVERSITY LIBRARY AWARD 2014 The Award instituted by Mrs. Kantaben L Padhya in memory of her Late husband Dr. L. M. Padhya. Dr. L. M. Padhya retired as University Librarian, from Smt. Hansa Mehta Library, of the Maharaja SayajiraoUniversity of Baroda, Gujarat. The Award carries a shawl, citation and memento. Applications are invited for the above award fulfilling the following criterion: a) The university should be recognized by the University Grants Commission. b) Must be a Member of AIU. c) No Private University/Institution is eligible to apply. d) Awardee Library should be the Institutional member of ILA. 8. ILA-S M GANGULY AWARD 2014 The Award is meant for the best school library in the country. The libraries of high/higher secondary schools are eligible if they fulfil the following criteria: (a) The applicant school may be an institution recognized/aided or run by the state Government; (b) The Library is administrated by a full time librarian possessing at least a BLISc. Degree; (c) The Library must be located in separate room of its own and provide at least lending services to all classes in regular and systematic manner; (d) A School Library shall not get the award twice within five years and (e) The Award is to be given every two years and consists of a shawl, citation and memento. 9. ILA-Dr. PSG KUMAR LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD-2014 The Award, instituted by Dr. P. S. G. Kumar Felicitation Committee, Amravati (Maharashtra), is for the professionals in the field of LIS in India. The Award carries a shawl, citation, memento and 3 tier AC to and fro fare by shortest route. Nominations are invited on plain paper with detailed CV, Age of the applicant should be 55 and above. 10. ILA GIDWANI-DESHPANDEY BESTACADEMIC LIBRARIAN AWARD 2014 The award instituted by Prof. K. Navalani, former Professor and Head, Department of Library Science, Punjabi University, is for the professional in the field of academic libraries in India. The award carries a shawl, citation and a memento. 6

OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES Assam Library Association: Platinum Jubilee Celebration and RRRLF sponsored Five-day Training Workshop for Non-Professional Library Staff Assam Library Association, after completion of its eventful seventy-five years of existence taking birth in 1938, celebrated Platinum Jubilee on the auspicious Librarians Day, the 12 th August, 2014. The Dept of Lib. & Inf. Science, Gauhati University, Directorate of Library Service, Govt of Assam, Assam College Librarians Association, IASLIC, Eastern Zone also joined together in observing the Day. Earlier to it, a five-day Training Workshop on Tools and Techniques for non-professional library staff during August 9-13, 2014, sponsored by Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata under the Ministry of Culture, Govt of India was inaugurated by Prof (Retd) Alaka Buragohain, President of Assam Library Association at 10 a.m. in the Seminar Hall of Media Trust, Assam, at Guwahati. Forty-seven participants working in different categories of libraries like academic, special, public and rural libraries joined the workshop, addressed by Sri Mahendra Nath Borah, Working President of the Association, Prof (Retd) Narendra Nath Sharma, Prof Narendra Lahkar, Head of the Dept of Lib & Inf. Science, Gauhati University, while Sri Dhiman Seal, General Secretary of the Association spoke about the purpose and the programme. Practical computer handling classes were conducted in the Computer Laboratory of Assam Engineering Institute. The Platinum Jubilee of Assam Library Association was started with a silent rally on Kitap Parhu Ahak (Let s Read Books) displaying play cards with relevant slogans at 10 a.m. from Latasil playground to District Library aiming at promotion of habit of reading books among all. Ten other organizations also joined the rally initiated with a call from Prof (Retd) Buragohain, President of the Association, flanked by others including Prof Narendra Lahkar. Open Session of the Platinum Jubilee of the Association was held at 11 a.m. in the District Library auditorium. Prof. Buragohain welcoming the guests, participants and students expressed the desire to carry the Let s Read Books movement to every corner of the present-day knowledge-based society and treat it also as a panacea to all social ills. A written Leaflet on behalf of the Assam Library Association calling people to join with the Assam Library Association in promotion of Reading Habit as a moral duty for recovering the society from all sorts of depravation was read out by Dr Navajyoti Das while anchoring the programme. Renowned journalist Sri Radhikamohan Bhagawati, editor of Danik Asam released the Associations s Platinum Jubilee publication Kitap Parhu Ahak (Let s Read Books). Bhagawati said that knowledge makes man great; earning knowledge may bring social sensibility in the minds of the people. He calls upon Assam Library Association to take the initiative in this matter. Sri Mahendra Nath Borah, Working President of the Association and editor of the publication spoke few words on the publication. In the meeting, Prof Hirendra Nath Dutta said that knowledge makes a person free from complex and this initiative for creation of reading habits has become a necessity in our society. Dr Shyam Bhadra Medhi held that Govt of Assam should have a State Library Policy. Sri Bimal Kr Hajarika, another speaker told that libraries must improve their services in order to attract the modern readers and library must go to the people. Sri Bhadrakrishna Goswami, former President of Asam Satra Mahasabha appreciated the slogan of the Association as very appropriate at present time, and held that the libraries in the Satras also should be made open for the public. Dr Abu Hanifa, Executive 7

Trustee of the Media Trust, Assam, Dr Utpal Sharma, Secretary of the Assam College Librarians Association spoke on the occasion. Prof Narendra Lahkar, Head of the Dept of Lib. & Inf. Science, GU prepared and read out the Resolutions adopted in the meeting. Sri Rabin Pathak, Jt Secretary of the Association offered the vote of thanks. In the afternoon, Librarians Day was observed, presided over by Prof (Retd) Alaka Buragohain, President of Assam Library Association and lighting the lamp of reverence in front of the photo of Dr S R Ranganathan by Prof (Retd) Buragohain followed by Prof Narendra Lahkar, Head, DLISc, GU, Sri Uttam Sharma, Director of Library Service, Sri Mahendra Nath Borah, Working President of Assam Library Association and others. Prof N Lahkar spoke that the Dept of Lib & Inf Sc, G U is trying to educate the students to cope with the present day need of the readers by revising the syllabus time to time incorporating new courses relevant for better functioning of the libraries and information centres. Directorate of Library Service, Govt of Assam selected two readers as best reader and best borrower of the public library for the Year 2013-2014. Prof N Lahkar handed over the Best Reader Prize to Sri Nabajyoti Sikdar and Prof N N Sharma handed over the Best Borrower Prize to Sri Sopan Duarah. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow which is establishing a State of the Art Library celebrated 122 nd birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan in the auditorium of the Institute. The Chief Guest of the function was Dr.Harsharan Das, (IAS), Principal Secretary and Director General Science and Technology, Government of UP. The Guest of Honour, Dr. Anjana Chattopadhyay, Ex-Director-National Medical Library and Director General-Delhi Public Library System, New Delhi delivered the keynote address. On this occasion The Journal of Library Information Communication Technology whose chief editor is Dr. P.P. Rawat was also released. The Director of the Institute Prof. Nuzhat Husain welcomed all the guests, faculty members, Senior Residents, Ph.D Students, Scientists, Officers, Paramedical Staffs and Others.
