Works under direction and supervision of a Registered Health Professional Hours of Work : Monday to Friday 0830 to 0500 hrs Functional Relationships with: Radiology Team Leaders/Senior MRTs Radiology staff ED staff Transit Service Nurses Other Hospital Staff Inpatient and Outpatient Services Patients and Care Givers Purpose: To assist with operational service efficiency providing assistance and support to the Radiology clinical staff to ensure a high quality customer-focused service is provided. To contribute to the overall patient experience within Radiology, taking responsibility for the patient flow process within the department. Areas of Responsibility: Workflow to include coverage of: CT Scanning Ultrasound General X-Ray Rooms Patient wait areas General departmental duties Supply Management Division of duties is dynamic and will change according to Radiology and over all Clinical Support requirements. KEY TASKS Customer focused Care Use communication and interpersonal skills to enhance the patient experience. EXPECTED OUTCOMES Maintain a comfortable and safe waiting room, bed hold areas, tidying as necessary. Work under direct supervision of Registered Health Professional at all times Assist patients in wheelchairs/trolleys with any requirements for their comfort Ensure patient warm and comfortable Assist with toileting as appropriate Escort patient into X-ray/US room as per staff instructions and assist where necessary, e.g. patient lifts, transfers and chaperoning. Ensure patient Clinical notes or long sheet returns with patient Communicate with patients. Listen to their needs and concerns and respond appropriately. Notify MRT or RN to their needs. Clinical Activities Contribute to clinical activities Check suction and oxygen in whole department Examination tables to be wiped and linen changed Answer call bells immediately and assist where possible or call appropriate team member. Know location of emergency equipment and its role in an emergency Set up procedure trolleys as required Assist with examinations/procedures according to protocols. Check patient details Escort patient from waiting area to change/examination room. Change/prepare patients into gowns for relevant examination assist patient if necessary. Inform relevant staff of patient readiness and location. Assist where necessary, e.g. patient lifts and transfers. Prepare and clean up procedure trolleys Assist MRT s in examination rooms for patient procedures. Ensure that patient leaves the department on completion of the examination. Keep sluice room clean and linen bags empty Communicate repair and maintenance of equipment Kitchen is clean and tidy and dishwasher emptied/filled as necessary Inform staff when leaving at end of shift Action of 777 response calls - Support patients and family members - Restore environmental order once event contained. Assist with positioning patient. Familiarize with moving equipment/stretchers around room Assist staff with patients, e.g. gown/gloves for clean/dirty procedures Ensure clinical notes are completed and returned to patient. Calling orderly to send patients back to ED/ward upon completion Change linen in rooms and patient stretchers/beds Procedures, specific tasks Ultrasound, CT, X-ray examination rooms: - Clean and prepare room - prepare trolleys for sessions - meet/greet patients - prepare patients for examination - assist during procedure and post procedure if required - clean up equipment/trolley post procedure Communication and interpersonal skills Liaises with staff of radiology and other disciplines as required to provide a well-organised, efficient and client-focused service to patients. Displays a professional approach when dealing with patients and other staff, communicating clearly and effectively. Answer telephones when necessary and assist caller. KEY TASKS EXPECTED OUTCOMES Room maintenance Ensure adequate supply of gel, face cloths, paper towels, vomit cartons, tissues, paper hats and gloves in rooms. Make sure MRO (multi resistant organism) /isolation boxes are fully stocked. Individual Responsibility for Workplace Health and Safety under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 Health and safety policies are read and understood and relevant procedures applied to their own work activities. Ensures own and others safety at all times. Comply with Infection Control technique Workplace hazards are identified and reported, including self management of hazards where appropriate. PERSON SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: Patient Care Assistant Minimum Preferred Qualification In-house orientation will be provided. Successful completion, within 12 months of commencing employment, of the NZQA accredited Level 3 National Certificate in Care and Support or equivalent provided by WDHB. First Aid CPR certificate Experience At least three years experience in a service-based or health environment. Worked in a health care setting as a PCA or Health Care Assistant.
