DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING NEWSLETTER- (November 2017 - March 2018) About the Department: The Department was started in the year 2008 with an objective of creating a leader in engineering education and research with the application of knowledge for uplifting the society globally. Initially, the Department was started with an intake of 60 students and later it was increased to 120 students in the year 2011.The Department inaugurated IEEE students chapter in the year 2012. The faculty members are consistently doing well in teaching and research activities. The Department had well established and equipped laboratories like Electrical Machines Lab, Power Electronics Lab, Power System Simulation Lab, Microprocessor Lab & Measurements and Instrumentation Lab with equipment cost of Rs. 65 Lakhs. The Department provides exposure to the students with hands-on experience on various Electrical Engineering subjects to face the challenges of the modern corporate world and to mould them as responsible citizens of the country with a willingness to serve the society. The Department established internal Library with 400 titles and IEEE volumes for the welfare of the Faculty members and students. VISION To create comprehensive electrical engineers to meet up the growing technological demands of the society. MISSION To impart high quality education to help the students hone their professional skills. To improve the competencies of students and faculties on contemporary technologies through continuous improvement programs. To imbibe the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship among the students. To undertake research on frontier areas of electrical and electronics engineering. Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) Graduates will have the ability to demonstrate skills in developing innovative ideas, and in providing effective solutions to complex engineering problems thereby being productive and participative global citizens

Our graduates will have the ability and confidence to pursue higher education or exhibit professionalism in the career or take up entrepreneurial accomplishments. Our graduates will have the technical competency to involve in multidisciplinary research within the suitable technological, global, societal, ethical, economical, environmental and organizational context. Our graduates will engage themselves in life-long learning thereby keeping themselves abreast of the contemporary issues. An ability to use appropriate techniques and adapt modern electrical engineering simulation tools to solve intricate engineering problems Apply logic informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and recognise their responsibility relevant to the profession and explore the human side of engineering. Understand the role of electrical engineers in society regarding social, cultural, environmental and global responsibilities for sustainable development. Ability to understand and practice the professional, legal and ethical principles involved in the area of electrical engineering- An ability to function effectively as a team member or a leader focusing on a common goal in multi disciplinary settings An ability to communicate effectively on technical activities both orally and in written form An ability to apply the knowledge of engineering and management principles to manage projects in multi disciplinary environments An ability to undertake self learning of contempo-rary issues and engage in lifelong learning Programme Specific Outcome (PSO) PSOs Description

PSO1 An ability to design, analysis and to implement power electronics converters in renewable energy applications. PSO2 A capability to design and examine the power system and to solve the unit commitment with various constraints. 1. STAFF ACTIVITIES All the faculty members of EEE Department had participated in the one day workshop on Energy conservation and its Methodology organized by Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering in association with Pondicherry HR circle on 19 th Nov 2017. Mr.D.Balaji, AP/EEE, Associate Prof, Mr.P.L.Santhanakrishnan,AP/EEE, had attended the ICTACT sponsored program titled Emotional Intelligence from 22 nd Nov 2017 to 23 rd Nov 2017. Mr.C.Shanmugasundaram Associate Professor/EEE, Mrs.S.Santhalakshmy AP/EEE and Mrs.R.Priya AP/EEE had participated in the AICTE sponsored STC titled NASCENT Technologies in Generation, Transmission and Distribution at Pondicherry Engineering College on 11 th Dec to 22 nd Dec 2017.

Mr.S.Rajkumar AP/EEE, Dr.K.Sedhuraman AP/EEE had attended the ISTE sponsored workshop titled EMBEDDED IOT & IOE at Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology from 11 th Dec to 15 th Dec 2017. Dr.K. Sedhuraman AP/EEE, P.L.Santhana Krishnan AP/EEE, R.Muthunagai AP/EEE and R.Priya AP/EEE had attended the AICTE Sponsored seminar titled Electrical Drives and Challenges of Electric transportation at KCG College of Engineering and Technology on 12 th Dec 2017. Mr.D.Balaji had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Measurement and Instrumentation for final year students on 2 nd January 2018. Mrs.S.Santhalakshmy had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Electronics Circuits for third year students on 6 th January 2018. Mr.S.Rajkumar had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Circuit Theory for third year students on 6 th January 2018. Mrs.R.Muthunagai had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Electrical Machines I for final year students on 8 th January 2018. Mrs. S.Santhanakrishnan had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of BEEE for second year students on 20 th January 2018. Mr. C.Shanmugasundaram had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Electrical Machines II for final year students on 22 nd January 2018. Mrs.R.Priya had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Digital Electronics for third year students on 27 th January 2018. Mrs. V.Thebina had handled the Comprehensive viva class in the subject of Transmission and Distribution for final year students on 30 th January 2018.

Mr.S.Rajkumar had delivered the special lecture titled Modeling of motors using ANSYS for third year students on 20 th January 2018. Dr.K.Sedhuraman had delivered the special lecture titled Artificial Intelligence Techniques based control for transmission & Distribution systems for final year students on 22 nd January 2018. Mrs.V.Thebinaa,AP/EEE has delivered the special lecture titled Electrical Energy conservation & its challenges to III year students on 3 rd Feb 2018. Mrs.S.Santhalakshmy AP/EEE has delivered the special lecture titled Application aspects to chose electronics components to II year students on 3 rd Feb 2018. DEPARTMENT ACTIVITIES: EEE department organized the guest lecture titled Solar Pro Simulation Software and Monitoring System to second, third year and final year students on 10 th January 2018. Mr.Ramakrishnan, Sales & Service Engineer, Rogress Techno Pvt Ltd, Coimbatore was the resource persons for the session.

AICTE-Pradhan Manthri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) & Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology EEE Department Joinly inaugurated Free Assistant Electrician Course for Rural students on 22 nd Jan 2018. Mohamed Assem.S,Kalvi Karasi.P,Mohana Priya.A of III year has participated in Start up Mela - 2018 held at St.Joseph Institute of Management,Trichy from 24 th January to 25 th January 2018.The startup idea of this team was awarded for second place with cash prize of Rs.10,000.

ISTE Sponsored Internal workshop titled Design and Implementation of Simple Electronics Circuits Using PCB was conducted for second year EEE students as a part of FSG EDC Group on 27 th Jan 2018 Power system FSG Group organaized Industrial visit to Mettur Thermal power station on 14 th Feb 2018.59 students of III year EEE has visited the power plant.

MVIT- IEEE student branch organaized Tech-Talk competition titled Cutting Edge Technologies that changed the World on 7 th Feb and 19 th Feb 2018. 30 students from I,II and III year EEE has presented their ideas in the competition. Applied Electronics FSG group has organaized Industrial visit to Genlite engineering Pvt Ltd,Chennai on Feb 24 th 2018.46 students of II year EEE has visited the power
