Regional Workshop Action Planning in Open Government Data (OGD) for Sustainable Development in Asia and Committee of Information and Communications Technology, Science Technology and Innovation Agenda Bangkok, Thailand, 3-6 October 2016

Introduction The regional workshop on Action Planning in Open Government Data (OGD) for Sustainable Development in Asia is being co-organized by the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), under the project Strengthening of Capacities of Developing Countries to Provide Access to Information for Sustainable Development through Open Government Data, implemented by DPADM/UN DESA. The workshop will take place on 3-5 October 2016, and will be held back to back with the inaugural session of UN ESCAP s Committee on Information and Communications Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation (CICTSTI), which will take place on 5-7 October 2016. The workshop participants will attend the inaugural session and selected open side-events of the CICTSTI until 6 October 2016, benefiting from the Committee s discussions of relevant policy issues with regards to Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and Science, Technology and Innovation (STI). They will also benefit from other related events organized by UN ESCAP during the same week. During this session, a smaller group of participants will peer review the draft OGD National Actions Plans of Nepal and aabangladesh. The peer reviewing process will be conducted using the S.M.A.R.T. methodology to ensure that action plans are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant/ Realistic and Time-bound. The peer reviewing will be conducted through group work according to the following methodology: There will be four different groups composed by participants, experts and other experienced peers. The participants of the country whose action plan is being reviewed will not be part of any of these groups. Each working group will analyse a different set of goals/commitments of the country s OGD action plan and will discuss them using the S.M.A.R.T. methodology. They will take note of all the comments and recommendations using a flip chart. During the group work, the participants of the country whose action plan is being reviewed will visit each group to answer questions and provide clarification as required. The working groups will briefly share the key comments and recommendations identified for each of the assigned goals/commitments in plenary.
