TUWEZESHE MENTORSHIP APPLICATION (TANZANIA) (LEADERSHIP AND MENTORING PROGRAM 2018-19) ABOUT THE PROJECT TuWezeshe Akina Dada Africa-UK Young Women s Empowerment Movement, is a threeyear women and girl s rights project funded by Comic Relief s Common Ground Initiative. Working across the UK, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Somaliland our vision is to equip young women with the skills they need to be leaders in the fight against gender based violence. The movement consists of the TuWezeshe Fellowship, our bespoke one-year leadership training and mentoring program, where participants will learn core leadership skills, have the chance to influence women s rights policy, speak on a range of national and international platforms, and implement an advocacy project of their own design. We know that behind every strong woman is a lineage of strong women, which is why mentoring is essential to our program and our participants. By pairing young women with those who are already established in their fields, we hope to equip participants with the skills, confidence, knowledge and power necessary to transform their lives and communities. As mentors you will have the unique opportunity to partner with us by investing in and forging meaningful relationships and networks that will develop you as leaders and innovators in your own right as well as ensuring the fight for women s rights and freedoms moves from an idea into a reality. MENTORSHIP PROGRAM The mentorship program will take place over the course of six-months to a year. Mentorships will either be one-on-one or in groups depending on the participant(s) project. Mentors will be required to meet at least once a month with their mentees. Depending on availability mentors can meet face to face or via Skype and meetings will be a minimum of 30minutes. Where possible, mentors will have the opportunity to meet prospective mentees on the last day of the Leadership Training Program. Mentor-matching will take place depending on each person(s) s skills, strengths, weaknesses and availability. Although this is a voluntary position, mentors will receive an intensive one-day training on mentorship and the project at large. They will also receive regular support through quarterly Skype progress meetings. Mentors will receive a certificate of recognition at the end of the program as well as great opportunities to network, develop their own leadership skills and the chance to invest in up-and-coming young women leaders.
