MEMO SD33 Innovation Grant TO: SD33 EDUCATORS FROM: CURRICULUM DEPARTMENT SUBJECT: INNOVATION GRANT APPLICATION DATE: SEPTEMBER 2017 To further enhance and support Inquiry learning in our school district, we are announcing the beginning of our Innovation Grant Pilot Program. This money for this optional program is made available to all educators in our District to assist in professional learning, over and above what we currently do. Please read further to learn more about this exciting learning opportunity. Grant Guidelines and Information The committee has allocated funds to provide 16 grants distributed as follows: Distribution 7 grants of up to $2000 9 grants of up to $1000 Successful grant recipient teams will also receive, in addition to the grant money, 2 half-day release times covered by the curriculum release team (5 members). Each team will be assigned a Curriculum Support Teacher who will attend meetings, a minimum of three times throughout the year, to provide additional guidance and support. Commitments: Attend each of the following networking meetings 1. Innovation kick-off event 2. Mid-year check-in and share 3. Year end innovation sharing and celebration While still staying within the guidelines, it is up to the applicants to determine how the grant monies will be used. The Grant does not pay in lieu or for release time used on projects. Grant funds are provided for lunch or dinner meetings, snacks, and honoraria for guest speakers, or resources. To maintain consistency of applications and to reduce our carbon footprint, please complete and submit the form electronically to brandee_jersak@sd33.bc.ca. Please note that the names of proposal applicants should be on the cover page only to allow for the blind review of proposals.
We encourage all staff to consider establishing cross-district and/or school-based networks that support their professional practice. If you have questions or need assistance with writing an Innovation Grant, please call Justin Moore at 604-703-1749. The grant deadline for application is October 11. Successful grant applicants will be notified by October 16. Groups will have to keep track of receipts. Usual school district accounting practices will apply.

Strategic Plan: ü High quality instruction in literacy and numeracy ü Critical, creative and reflective thinking ü Personal and social responsibility ü Quality partnerships Ensure the math is correct on your application Have a clear plan (dates, time, activities, meals) Include information about what the coordinator will do: e.g., order meals, set up meeting space, prepare materials, prepare the summary report to be submitted at year-end Make sure there is an indicated relationship between the goals and activities 3
