donated more than $30,000 to support CNU through the senior class gift. Participants gathered at the president's residence to celebrate with a champagne toast. Softball No. 2 in America Softball image The 2011 CNU Softball team made an exciting run to the NCAA Division III National Championship. The unranked Captains won seven straight games against nationally ranked opponents, including an epic 13-inning come-from-behind victory against No. 2 Emory. CNU finished with a 38-12 overall record and made a fifth straight NCAA Tournament and second straight NCAA Finals appearance. Captains baseball enjoyed a record-setting season winning 39 games en route to a No. 1 national ranking, a USA South Conference championship and another NCAA Tournament berth. Golf Team Takes USA South Title CNU Golf The CNU golf team won a firstever USA South Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Captains continued their hot play at the NCAA Championships finishing 11th in the nation. A new era of CNU football begins at POMOCO Stadium on September 17th when the Captains play their first home game under the lights. The Captains open the season Labor Day weekend in POMOCO Stadium with a 1 p.m. game against Waynesburg and then return to campus to celebrate CNU's 50th anniversary on Sept. 17 against Salisbury at 7 p.m. The complete 2011 football schedule can be found HERE. in the fall 2010 CARE for AIDS Textbook Drive. Proceeds support Kenyan families living with HIV/AIDS. The other top schools were Texas A&M and Texas Christian University. Twenty-seven campuses from across the United States participated in the drive, raising $90,000. Thank you to all CNU students who took part in this great cause, underscoring our longstanding commitment to making the world a better place. CNU Music Continues to Soar CNU Orchestra CNU has built one the finest undergraduate voice programs in the country. In this year's statewide National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, which includes the best voice majors from every school in Virginia, CNU captured three first-place awards: Caroline Scruggs in Freshmen Women, Wesley Evans in Junior Men and Marshall Severin in Junior Men Music Theatre. Women, Renae Erichsen in Freshmen Women Music Theatre, Michael Baggett in Senior Men, Marshall Severin in Junior Men and Wesley Evans in Junior Men Music Theatre. Winning Honors (third place) were Caroline Scruggs in Freshmen Women Music Theatre, Paul Keene in Sophomore Men, and Emi Frantz and Victoria Myers in Senior Women. CNU took home half of all the possible first- and second-place awards. The CNU Indoor Drumline won the gold trophy in the Atlantic Indoor Competition Championships followed by the CNU Indoor Guard, which won the bronze, beating teams from the University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, and other schools across Virginia. In 2012 the Marching Captains will participate in London's New Year's Day Parade, the Women's Chorus will sing in the United Kingdom and the Chamber Choir in Germany and Italy. This summer, voice and piano majors will be studying and performing in Cornwall and at The University of Oxford in what we hope will soon become an ongoing national summer music program. CNU Chapel The University has broken ground on CNU's future chapel, which will welcome people of all faiths. Here we will nurture hearts and minds by hosting student groups, religious activities and weddings, as well as musical performances and lectures. The Chapel will be located near the entrance of campus between the Ferguson Center and the Library. Funds for its construction were provided by generous donors and benefactors. Pinafore Finale TheaterCNU brought to a close a triumphant year with six standing room-only performances of a sparkling production of Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore.
