Institutional Research and Planning Associate Degrees for Transfer Awarded in Academic Year 2015-16 May 2017 Background In Fall 2012, California Community Colleges began offering associate degrees for transfer (ADT) to the California State University (CSU) system. There are two transfer degrees, the Associate in Arts (AA-T) and the Associate in Science (AS-T) that were designed to provide a clear pathway to a CSU major and baccalaureate degree. California Community College students who are awarded an ADT degree are guaranteed admission with junior standing somewhere in the CSU system and given priority admission consideration to their local CSU campus. ADT degrees from summer 2015, fall 2015, and spring 2016 are reported within this study. Results Within the 2015-16 academic year, Cypress College awarded a total of 458 transfer degrees split fairly evenly between AA-T s (57.0%, n = 261) and AS-T s (43.0%, n = 197). The top three majors for transfer degrees were Business Administration (n = 156), Psychology (n = 79), and Sociology (n = 43). NSC was able to successfully match and track 99.1% (n = 454) of these students. Over 80% of transfer degree recipients went on to transfer to four-year institutions (see Figures 1-2). Transfer rates did not vary between AS-T and AA-T degrees overall. Of the 387 students that did transfer to 4-year institutions from Cypress College, most enrolled at CSU, Fullerton (44.2%, n = 171) or CSU, Long Beach (26.6%, n = 103).
