Page 3 Revised CYO Sports Eligibility Policy Thank you to everyone who responded to Ms. Bianchini s request for input regarding Nativity s CYO Sports Eligibility Policy in the Newscast. After careful consideration, the School Commission has decided to eliminate the academic requirement* of the Sports Eligibility Policy beginning in the 2016/2017 school year. Though the academic requirement was implemented in alignment with the high academic standards Nativity Catholic School has established over the years, it has created a number of challenges and concerns including, but not limited to: Inconsistent consequences across sports for student athletes and teams based on the timing of report cards relative to season schedules Inconsistent with other extracurricular activities which have no academic eligibility requirement Limits opportunities for students with learning challenges/disabilities to participate in sports Burdensome for coaches to enforce Focuses on temporary behavior change versus long term development A few other considerations to note: CYO does not have or enforce academic standards. Other requirements of the Sports Eligibility Policy specific to suspensions and attendance will remain intact. Roncalli requires students to maintain an overall GPA of 1.9 to be eligible to play sports. The elimination of the academic eligibility requirement to play sports does not diminish Nativity s commitment to academic excellence. Instead, the elimination of policy provides parents with the power to determine whether or not playing sports is right for their children, supplemental to their education. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Bianchini or another School Commission member. Sincerely, The School Commission *Any participant who receives an F in an academic subject, including Conduct, Religion and Special Area subjects, for a grading period will be ineligible to participate in CYO sports for a period of two weeks. After two weeks, the student may participate provided the failing grade(s) from the report card have improved to a passing grade(s). The period of ineligibility begins the day report cards are issued. Terri Bianchini Principal Nativity Catholic School

Page 4 Congratulations to Krystal Veguilla who was baptized by Father Pat Sunday, April 17 th!
